2014-2015 College Hockey (non UND hockey)
ihatethegophers replied to MafiaMan's topic in Men's Hockey
They really came on when they stopped having to play teams outside the B10. -
Me too, I would rather play them in Fargo in front of the home crowd. Plus it is exciting hockey. Isn't that the whole point?
-
Also just tweeted that brackets will surprise, not what many are predicting. Not sure what that means.
-
Not realy a surprise but Buccigross tweeting that the top seeds are: 1.Mankato in midwest 2. Sioux in west 3. BU in northeast 4. Miami in east
-
I predict they will only have to play one more game against non-Big10 teams this season.
-
You think Hermantown has a "fire Plante" thread every year after the championship game?
-
I think there is a difference between picking the best 4 teams and picking the 4 most deserving teams. Florida St. deserves to be #1 because they are the only team that is undefeated. I don't think I would pick FSU to win over any of the top 6 teams on a neutral site. They are not one of the best 4 teams.
-
Yeah but he is like 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Which school other than BC has had more success during Hakstol's time here?
-
You are right that you can't put too much stock into any sort of ranking this time of year. I do think it is important that the NCHC has 5 teams currently in the top 13 though. The overall non conference play has been amazing this year compared to last. The NCHC is 33-16-2 in nc games including 12-2 vs the Big10. At the end of the year that is great news for all of the teams in the NCHC. When we are beating each other up, wins will help more and losses will hurt less. We did pretty well in the conference last year but still barely squeaked in as the last team. This year I think we don't have to dominate the conference just to make it in. It is kind of like the SEC in football. All the SEC teams are the best (in some people's minds) so all of your losses to SEC teams are quality losses and your wins are quality wins.

Here is a cool infographic about NCAA players in the NHL.

SIOUX vs. GOPHERS - Thursday, F4 Philly style Gameday

I think it is pretty much a lock that we play Wisconsin in Cincinnati. It should be a great game.
-
GOAL UML!
-
Wisconsin is still playing for a trophy and a #1 seed so I doubt they would "take a night off". That being said, this game is obviously more important to Ohio State so it wouldn't surprise me if they won.

This could not be more wrong. I am so tired of people repeating this nonsense. 2006 - CCHA had teams in 3 regionals 2007 - CCHA and Hockey East had teams in 3 regionals 2008 - CCHA had teams in 3 and WCHA had teams in 4 regionals 2009 - CCHA had teams in 4, Hockey East in 3 regionals 2010 - CCHA, WCHA, and Hockey East all had teams in 3 regionals 2011 - CCHA and WCHA had teams in 3 regionals 2012 - CCHA, WCHA, and Hockey East all had teams in 3 regionals 2013 - WCHA had teams in 3 regionals The NCAA doesn't really care at all what conferences are represented in the tournament especially because it is almost impossible to predict who will advance. They DO care about ticket sales so they will often try to get teams to play close to home as they can but it has nothing to do with trying to avoid a 2005 repeat.
-
I would hope they wouldn't put all three Big Ten teams in one region but that would be a fun one.
-
That is my guess too. I remember Toews scoring 3 shootout goals on Jeff Frazee in the world juniors. Still hard to believe how good that Duncan Oshie Toews line was.
-
Wasn't there a Wisconsin v Cornell game a few years ago that went about 4 ots? Talk about boring hockey...

I think St. Cloud is in as long as BOTH Michigan and BU don't win their tournaments. I ran a scenario where Michigan won but BU lost and that had SCSU in.
-
I was curious how SCSU could win the WCHA and barely make the tournament. Then I looked at their non conference schedule: 0-2 vs New Hampshire, 2-0 v Alabama Huntsville, 1-1 vs Rensselaer, 0-2 vs Northern Michigan. That is absolutely horrible. It really goes to show how important those non conference games are in the pairwise.
-
How many teams did you expect them to sweep in one weekend?
-
2-2 now with Peterson scoring both goals for Grand Rapids.
