  1. Idk. We have four consistent lines, which is good, but our small, little plays and transitions on the ice hasn't inproved.

Our best game of the year I saw and in person too was Friday night against Miami. We got the D involved in the offensive zone and made great little plays for a full 60.

I think 27 and 8 need to get hot soon. Be nice if Jordan S. and Ladue could cash in a on a goal too, to boost their confidence.

27 is on a 5-game point streak. He may not be scoring goals, but he's contributing.

  2. My biggest worry with this team is they still can't sweep a weekend against a top ten team.  The last time we did was in fall of 2011 when we swept 4th rank CC, and that CC team didn't even end up making the tourney that year.  The last time we swept a top ten team prior to that was at home against Duluth in February of 2010...five years ago.  The good news is, we rarely get swept ourselves.

This year we have a great record, but haven't swept anybody decent at all.  When it comes to tourney time, we have to figure out a way to beat 4 great teams, and unfortunately, I think it will end in heartbreak again.  I don't want it to end that way, and I think our team can beat the good teams, but can they do it four times in a row.  We'll see.

I remember someone a few years ago mentioning that one of the big trends in winning it all was keeping your losses under ten.  We're in good position to do that, but have to take care of business.

To be fair, I think it's easier to beat two different good teams on back to back nights than to beat the same good team twice.

  3. I've never considered Michigan much of a rival. Don't play them often enough and '11 felt like it was more us that lost that game rather than them winning it, if that makes sense? Plus they lost the next night to UMD anyways.

    UMN, DU, BC, WISCO

Michigan has been more of a post-season rival.  There was awhile when we ran into them every year in the national tourney (much like BC).

  4. Brad Malone scores his fifth of the season ....with a penalty shot goal last night.

It's pretty awesome to see both Malone and Vandevelde excelling more now that they're on new teams.

  5. Just looking at cost of flights, and hotels, don't think I can justify it.  Figure in session passes because I'd want to see all the games, I'm looking at it costing as much to go there as spending a week in Mexico.  I love my hockey, and hopefully Sioux will be there, but I'd rather have drinks on the beach in Mexico.

Yeah, that's what I figured out, too.  It was looking to be almost $2000 for me to go, and I'm within driving distance.

  6. Zane didn't have his best weekend ever, but the D left him out to dry a few times, too.  I'm not too worried about it since Zane has stolen plenty of games for us.  He'll right the ship.

I have no problem with splitting against a top 5 team in their barn.  Good weekend for the Sioux, and a good glimpse at the level of play they need moving forward.

I can't believe Ortega is only a sophomore.  I feel like he's going to be one of those annoying players that seem to be in college forever.

  7. Name another team that lost the kinds of players that Wisconsin did after last season. Not an excuse. Just the nature of the beast. I'm by no means an apologist, it's just how I see it.

But at the same time, this is a repeat pattern for Eaves.  It happens every 4 years.  He could try to balance the four years a bit better with how he recruits and the timing at which he brings players in, but he doesn't.  He's been content to be bottom-of-the-barrel every four years with an extrememly young squad.  THat's only worth it if you do something pretty amazing during the years you're loaded with juniors/seniors.
