Wow, what a great chance for Porter.

When do they announce MVP of the league? I think Zano has got it in the bag!!
Major awards are usually Thursday at the Frozen Faceoff. I think they have an event thing for athletes and coaches.
-
So he's going to play for them? Or will he go to the AHL?
It's an entry-level contract, so I'm guessing he spends most of his time in the AHL.
-
From what ive seen the last 2 seasons half the NCAA players might do that. Since it seems like now the thing to do is lay on the ice and act hurt to draw a penalty
I don't think the Europe leagues have as big of a problem with that. I saw Robbie Earl play in Salzburg, and he didn't dive once. He was practically captain of the diving team at Wisconsin!

Poolman-Caggiula-Parks
O'Donnell-Gaarder-Poganski
Chyzyk-Pattyn-Johnson
Olson-Simonson-St. Clair
Thompson-Schmaltz
Stecher-Ausmus
Mattson-LaDue
With or without N. Schmaltz, that lineup should sweep CC at the Ralph. Still three very effective lines, fourth line won't play much, St. Clair will probably kill some penalties. With that D and Zane in net, two goals a night should get us to Minneapolis.
I'd say take out Olson and put Panz in on that last line. At this time of year, I'll take the experience.

Tambellini signed with the Rangers.

It begs the question, as a 2nd round pick how did he decide to go to Maine?
Probably because he was 15 when he committed, in a year when Maine played for the Hockey East championship.
-
I don't know about you but I hope he's skating
And I was definitely hoping for the mustache.

Devin Shore(F)
Junior - Maine - 2012/2nd Rd NHL Draft (DAL)
Not entirely surprising considering how much maine has sucked the past few years. I wouldn't want to stick around either...

For those who are on the fence about ordering, I absolutely love this hat. It's incredibly warm and withstands harsh winter weather. Probably one of the best gifts Santa has sent my way.

Only the Sioux could have a guy lay on the ice with a potential head injury and NOT get a PP out of it. UGH how does this happen?!?!?!?
Pattyn barley runs into the Denver goalie and gets an interfearence penalty. Anyone know why Ausmus got a penalty for hitting the Miami playey? i didnt catch everything there i guess
I actually didn't think Nick's injury warranted a PP. It wasn't a dirty hit, just an unfortunate collision with two different Miami players. Besides, with two shorthanded goals against, I'd rather not get another PP...

agreed. great article, one of his best.
Along with the Lisa Marvin story he wrote a couple weeks ago about her recovery.

I get that LJ takes a ton of stupid penalties, most of which are a direct result of him not moving his feet. But he just recently had a 5-game point streak. You don't sit points in order to bring someone in off the bench who hasn't played in over a month; especially when you already have to do that to replace an injury.

I think that was around the time that Miami was going to be a destiny in college hockey, IIRC.
Destiny. Dynasty. Same thing.
-
Quite shocking actually.
It might have something to do with the general move toward offensive defensemen in the pros. He's more of a defense first player.
-
That puts both Schmaltz brothers in the top 20.

I agree with what you're saying about the players and pressure but I don't necessarily think that the company line of "unfinished business" is something Dave Hakstol puts on the players himself. Seems the players themselves - along with the fans and news media - do a good enough job with the demands/expectations of national championships every year. At one of the Final Fives a few years back (I think it was 2011), the team wouldn't even touch the Broadmoor Trophy after winning the tournament because it wasn't the ultimate prize that the team wanted. I don't know who made that decision, but my view is that MacNaughton Cups and Broadmoor Trophies are part of the journey and deserve to be celebrated as an accomplishment in their own respective rights.
That was the 2011 Pony Express team, and that decision was made by the players. If I remember correctly, it addresses it in the book that was made about that team. Hakstol said that in hindsight, he wishes he would have made the players enjoy and relish each of those accomplishments more (or something to that effect, that's not a straight quote).

Tucker Poolman coming in at #63.

No Sioux players in the 71-80 spots.
-
As long as they win in OT, it's ok
It would save the fan base a lot of money on heart and breathing meds (not to mention anxiety meds!) if we could just not go there in the first place.

Team speed? I don't think so.
I was thinking more along the lines of ability to slow other teams down, not ability to keep up with other teams.
-
Yeah, I think WMU will do their best to slow us down, but CC tried it and once we starting playmaking with speed, we took over. I see the same series. Just my $.02.
There's a pretty big difference between WMU and CC, in my opinion. At least this year there is.
-
I don't believe so.
I didn't notice him out there, either. Maybe it was too hard for him to be switching back and forth between F and D (and understandably so).
-
I hoow not. Olson is a banger and has 3 goals. Simo can win face offs and has a goose eggs for goals.
I'd stick with Olson. He belongs in our line up. We are harder to play against with him in it. Fact.
That's assuming Olson is back to pre-mono form.

I'm guessing he felt obligated to write it given the assistant coach's comments in a recent interview. The assistant basically said that Wisconsin has idiot fans who only look at W vs L and don't have a clue what else is actually going on.
