  1. There may be a number of Fargo residents that feel a $3 donation is worth it to vote for the choice they deem the worst.  IMO they should've said as of last Friday, if you've donated, you're eligible.

    I haven't inquired yet, but I'm guessing there's a minimum donation, and it's higher than $3.

  2. I'm curious if UND will see any spike in fundraising due to the voting details.  Keikla has been a UND fan her entire life, posts on this board but was smart enough to earn a scholarship to a D2 school for swimming because they needed to raise their team GPA. ;)

She texted this morning saying she has a certain number of days to donate to UND so she can have a vote in the process.  I could see that working out really well for UND.

Exactly.  For all the things they botched in this process, I think they nailed the voting protocol.  They eliminated the average ND citizen who doesn't have a personal tie to UND (including vindictive NDSU fans).  And when it comes to those of us with fan ties but not academic ties, they get more donations from people that care enough to want a vote.  I'd be surprised if UND doesn't see an uptick in donations in the next 3 days.

  3. I'm wondering if the University will see an uptick in new donors the next couple of days.  How much $ to insure eligibility?

Ha that was my first thought.  I have three days to donate.  Though I have had several offers from friends stating that I could just donate directly to them to sway a vote haha

  4. I noticed on the main page that the 'Fans are Saying - Message Board' section no longer has the topic included.  For example, the most recent post is in a thread titled 'Battle of the Popular (Vote)!'.  It lists who last posted and when but no longer says if that thread is in the Nickname topic, Men's Hockey, etc.  Is that something fixable?

Thanks for all your hard work!  We fans are indebted to your website prowess and willingness to run this show.

  5. I'm not sure how much a role that plays.  I'd be curious to hear about that subject from kids who are recruited.

I know a lot of Minnesota fans were convinced they would get Boeser because of his close relationship with a couple of Minnesota recruited teammates on his USHL team, and we all know how that worked out.  Sometimes I think recruits like to choose their own path, so to speak, and not be perceived as just following others.

That crossed my mind.  Obviously, Fabbro and Jost are great friends, teammates, and billet brothers.  But maybe, despite all that, Fabbro would want to strike out on his own and not always be part of the duo.

  6. Just realized from Brad's article that Jost is captain for the upcoming season at Penticton.  That's a great sign considering how young he still is.  UND seems to do an amazing job of recruiting kids with leadership tendencies.

  7. To some I'm sure that's the feeling, my point was that they have 2 imports (poolman,Bowen) and 2 already there in bast and Jost along with nick fuher as assistant coach there. Jost and fabbro could develop anywhere in any league and be just fine going forward. I'm curious on why Bowen and poolman went there?? Had to be some sort of push somewhere anyone know?

The pipeline actually started awhile back.  Mark MacMillan, Stecher, OD all played at Penticton, I believe.

  8. It was announced back in April that he wasn't returning - this was just an update on what's next for him.

Right.  I think the upset will be about the fact that he said he left Wisconsin to be closer to his son and girlfriend...who are in western Canada.  Though maybe they're planning to pack up and head to Germany too.

  9. I find it funny that people honestly think Toews is upset with UND (about his brother's playing time, no less), because he would rather take the Stanley Cup to sick kids in a hospital than to Grand Forks.  Really?!

  10. The dumpster fire of UW Hockey blazes on.

I don't see much other than a big change at HC that can right the ship.

Wait.....those B1G network games will save them all.

It is a shame it's not great for college hockey as a whole to have a devastated Wisconsin.

That's why I think Gwoz is going to take a year off and head up Wisconsin next year.

  11. I swam in college, and our scholarships varied every year based on how we had performed that previous season, if you were going to be a captain, etc..  We obviously didn't have the kind of money UND hockey does, though.

  12. I don't like Sun Dogs as much as anyone but this wlole idea of a nickname instilling fear in opponents has me intrigued. Does that really even happen because of a nickname or is it the calibre of play from one's opponents that instills the fear or lack there of? I mean c'mon, Gophers? Jackrabbits? I'm shaking in my boots at the mere sound of them!

Maybe not fear, but respect.  I remember when opposing players were questioned on their favorite logo.  Hands down, Sioux won.  Now, I'm not expecting to maintain the respect and honor of the Sioux nickname.  But I'd prefer to not be at the bottom of the 'favorite logo' pile.

  13. "The regiment was presented with three different mascots that represented the Rough Riders: a mountain lion by the name of Josephine that was brought to Tampa by some troops from Arizona, a war eagle named in Colonel Roosevelt's honor brought in by some New Mexican troops, and lastly a small dog by the name of Cuba who had been brought along on the journey overseas."

    All those would be hits.

Though the mountain lion might eat some of the small children we're trying to entertain.  :p
