  1. I just have a felling that this is SCSU's year.  I have them beating Miami for the championship.  Mankato and Duluth join them in the FF.

I had SCSU making the Frozen Four.  But then I realized I had a BU/BC final and decided to scrap it all and start again haha

  2. Even though Providence is a lower seed, Miami gets hosed playing them in their backyard.

A little surprised they avoided all NCHC first round match ups.  No one would have blamed them with 6 teams in the tourney.

Crazy how difficult some of these regionals look.

  3. Well, in the fan's defense, they did not find out until July 2013 who would be playing at JLA this weekend.

hahaha well played.  And that's a valid point.  It's not like the Frozen Faceoff or the Final Five when you don't know until the weekend before who will be there.  Every team makes their tournament, so they know for certain their team is going to be there.  Geez...

  4.

    MVP — Joey LaLeggia, Denver

Herb Brooks coach of the year — Dave Hakstol, North Dakota

Forward of the year — Trevor Moore, Denver

Defenseman of the year — LaLeggia, Denver

Goalie of the year — Zane McIntyre, North Dakota

Defensive forward of the year — Mark MacMillan, North Dakota

Offensive defenseman of the year — LaLeggia, Denver

Scholar-athlete of the year — Nick Mattson, North Dakota

NCHC sportsmanship award — Nick Oliver, St. Cloud State

Good haul for the UND folks today.

Surprised that Oliver got the sportsmanship award, thought he was one of the whiniest opposing players that we saw this year.

And Rau got it for the B1G.  Maybe everyone just decided to troll with their voting for that award.

  5. From the NCAA website:

The Northeast Regional at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire and the West Regional at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota will be held March 27-28. One regional will have start times of 2 and 5:30 p.m. ET on March 27 with a regional final game time of 5:30 p.m. ET on March 28. The start times for the other regional will be 4:30 and 8 p.m. ET on March 27, while the regional final is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on March 28.

It would make sense to give the later times to the central time zone.  So expect Fargo to have the earlier games...

  6. Lets be honest, would Mankato or Michigan Tech be rated so high if they played in the NCHC, especially after christmas? The truth will come out during the NCAA playoffs. I could be wrong but I have a feeling an NCHC team will be taking home the big prize this year.

I took the same attitude toward Ferris State last year, and they definitely held their own in that regional.

  7. I saw that article too.  I was surprised, but not outraged, that Zane received as little acknowledgement as he did.  I thought it was the perception of most college hockey commentators that Zane was the reason for this season's success.

I'll say this.  I would really like to get all these college hockey sportswriters, bloggers, etc..., into the same room and ask them exactly how they think UND is doing it this year.  Smoke and mirrors?

They are #1 in the PWR.  Tied for best winning % in the country, and won the regular season title in the conference most feel is strongest top to bottom, at least this year.

But apparently our Corsi numbers suck.  We don't have anyone even sniffing the top 50 in scoring.  Our penalty kill is average, at best.  Our power play is ok, but not in the top 10 nationally.  And apparently it isn't our goaltender.

Maybe it is all just smoke and mirrors.

Our penalty kill is best in the NCHC.  At least that's what I heard at some point during last weekend's broadcast.

  8. He and tomek have been climbing and climbing! Two highly touted NHL picks. How did Hak land tomek?! Anyore know if there was any Spirko connections ect..?

Boeser looks to have nice size and can flat out score.

I remember Brad's article saying Tomek knew who Spirko was but didn't know him personally.  I believe he just did a ton of research on various schools once he got to the states.

  9. As there should be, 4-24-4 for a program like Wisconsin is inexcusable.

Grand Forks might get burned to the ground if UND ever had a record even remotely close to that.

Hell, it would be chaos if we missed the NCAAs!

Exactly.  I'm sure the coach was referencing the team's youth when he mentioned other circumstances going on.  The problem with that is 1) According to the above article, Wisconsin is only the 10th youngest team in the nation this year, and 2) Abundant youth is directly the result of Eaves' refusal to adjust his recruiting and class sizes in an attempt to balance.
