  1. Lots of opportunities to use those big screens to improve game day experience, but advertising is money.
  2. Bismarck Junior College going to Nationals. Do they have kids who can play here?
  3. Thanks
  4. Do any bars in Grand Forks carry the FB game today?
  5. Pretty good assessment. Way too many unforced errors and mental mistakes. A number of off balance 3 point attempts. The girls need to adjust to the speed of the college game at this level. (This wasn’t Concordia). We looked athletic enough. This team has potential. Hope they can learn and adjust quickly. Also need to make free throws.
  6. Jim played football and wrestled for South St. Paul. He the played FB and wrestled for U of Minn Crookston where he was a Junior College All-American and Ranked 4th in the nation in wrestling. He was an All NCC LB at UND in 1970 and 1971. In 1971 he was named the NCC most valuable defensive lineman and an NCAA All American. He was drafted in the 3rd round by the Bengals. He played 12yrs for the Bengals at middle LB and earned pro bowl honors. He was elected to the South St Paul HoF , Minnesota Crookston HoF, UND Athletic HoF, College Football HoF, and North Dakota Sports HoF. He was 6’ 3” 225lbs which was bigger than many linemen in the 1970’s. He could cover sideline to sideline. His senior year he led UND over NDSU. NDSU was ranked #1 in the nation with a 30+ game unbeaten streak. We held them to -76 yds. He was as good as any LB in history of North Dakota FB. During off season he served our nation as a member of the US Army Reserves.

    Jim LeClair

We lost one of the greatest football players in UND history early this AM. Jim LeClair, former All-American linebacker, and Pro Bowl LB for the Cincinnati Bengals died of complications of CTE. Please keep Jim’s wife Betty, kids and other family members including brother Marty (who also played LB at UND) in our thoughts and prayers.
  8. No, probably not. It may lessen the college experience for many and indirectly could adversely affect donations. Athletic events are the major attraction for many alumni to return to campus and reconnect with their Alma Mater. We as a society have allowed sports to become a very dirty business.
  9. This may be the impetus to remove intercollegiate and inter scholastic athletics from from educational institutions. Being a college athlete isn’t a “full time job”. At UND/NDSU full scholarships for instate kids are around $21,400 instate and 33,000 out of state. Throw in free travel, hotel and stipend clothing/gear it’s at least $25,000-$35,000 per athlete per year. Many in the media are pushing for the NCAA changes. What will that do to the team culture. The star QB, RB, CB, LB, WR can negotiate for tens of thousands of dollars at schools our size and, in some cases, millions at the big time schools. What about the Off linemen, Def linemen who don’t get recognition but are an important part of the success of the star athlete. What about the back ups or scout team players who make the star athlete better? The NCAA caved to media pressure, political pressure and lobby groups. I don’t think it is in the best interest of colleges and universities nor intercollegiate athletics. How soon before HS athletes demand money?
  10. Sorry I put my comment after the wrong post. He does have D1 potential.
  11. He does
  12. I think lukewarm interest and they haven’t offered. SDSU maybe PWO. D2 offers. DL hasn’t had to pass because we had Isaiah Thompson who has run for over 3000 yds in less than 3 years. DL also has a 240 lb FB, 215RB with decent speed and a 205 Lb RB/WR so they haven’t had to pass. He has been very good, he can run, play defense and can throw deep but I don’t think he has thrown 10 times in a game more than once. With Thompson out for season, and a very tough Rocori team in Section final this week he is our key player moving forward. UND wants more film on him cuz he had a broken wrist and couldn’t get to their FB camp last summer. (I’m pretty sure that’s more than you wanted to know but may explain caution from UND and SDSU).
  13. Max Gunderson visited weekend of CalDavis game. Led Detroit Lakes to 48-27 win over defending Section 8AAAA champs Willmar. He was 5-8 with TD passes of 42 and 30 for 127yds no interceptions. Also 13 caries for 93 yds and a 47yd TD Run. He also had two first half interceptions. 6’4” 210lbs. QB/Safety. SDak State has had him in and still interested. He is still growing. Possible QB but could be TE or LB. Outstanding athlete. Great leader. UND needs to get this kid.
  14. Your comment that any UND QB can complete 70% made me wonder. Schuster has completed 51% and Zimmerman 58% and prior to last 2 games Ketteringham 55%. Maybe I’m wrong, but I still think if our defense can build on Saturday’s performance, and Ketteringham can play like he has the last two games we can win. If we are progressing as a program, we should expect no less.
  15. Ok, so who are you going to play instead?
  16. I guess I’m ok moving the chains and marching down the field 8-20yds per throw. We have the occasional pass >25yds. For the most part he steps into his throws and the last 2 games he got rid of the ball quickly in face of oncoming pass rush. He isn’t quick enough to beat the rush with his feet but when he has run, he seems to find a seam and get upfield for 5-7yds. When he has time to throw he has been decent. I’ll take 70% with no turnovers from a QB any day if we avoid penalties and mistakes. Let’s see if he can continue his play of last 2 weeks instead of EW or IS games.
  17. I don’t care about his feet as long as he can complete 70% of his passes and avoid turnovers.
  18. Last 2 games Ketteringham has played pretty well. Hasn’t turned the ball over and has completed over 70% of his passes for over 450yds and 2 TDs. We moved the ball ok yesterday. The missed interference call and Gee’s fumble cost us points and I only remember one drop by receivers and 2 bad misses to open receivers yesterday. We need to improve our ability to consistently run the ball. We also gave up 4 sacks yesterday. Defense needs to build on a solid effort. Can’t count on receivers dropping sure TD very often. Eliminate turnovers, penalties and mental errors/missed assignments and this team can win remaining games.
  19. What made it worse was 2 refs within 10-15 yds watching defender run right into receiver waiting for ball. No excuse. As obvious as it gets.
  20. Not necessarily. He needs to improve his technique. Lots of punters and kickers this size. He still needs to be in weight room.
  21. Our coaches and players.
  22. Yeah but he would need a masters in mechanical engineering from there to skip over the normal options for an AC grad.
  23. Yes

    Cal Poly gdt

I believe Danny makes the calls. Unless there is a timeout, the OC and QB make the play calls during the game based on what they have seen on film and what our staff thinks is most likely to work based on game plan. Most of HC input occurs during the week of preparation. During game OC, Line coach, RB coach QB coach, if different than OC, are communicating with players and each other and OC calls plays considering that input. HC listens in and may comment but There isn’t time for HC to debate OC calls and seldom does HC make the calls At halftime, coaches discuss and make adjustments. HC oversees those discussions and gives input and direction. This is the same at most teams above HS level.
