  1. UND has already started the 701 initiative with an initial goal of raising $1,000,000 which would be used for “Alston Awards”. Student athletes including those on partial scholarships can receive up to $24,000 over 4 years. Chaves and the Alumni staff/Athletic staff started work on this over 6 mos ago. I disagree with those who state we are doing nothing. Having said that, I have not heard of anyone who has started an NIL fund for UND athletes. I’m not going to give big money for UND student athletes beyond scholarships for an education and the additional expense money or even Alston Awards. The NCAA has created a new mess with how they deal with NIL and the portal. The courts have ruled that athletes can be compensated. I believe the NCAA had stated the schools can’t administer NIL funds (not sure where it stands anymore because they have turned a blind eye). I also understood schools couldn’t use NIL funds for recruiting. Let the athletes find their own organizations/companies for NIL dollars. Violations of recruiting should be dealt with severely to include loss of eligibility for the athlete and loss of scholarships and post season eligibility for the schools.
  2. Yup. They are capable and we need to play our best hockey. We need the sweep going into the break.
  3. Good post. I don’t think you can emphasize too much the importance of playing our best hockey this weekend against a capable team. We need a sweep to go into the break on a positive note and remain toward the top in both the league and pairwise. Leave no doubt in either the minds of our players nor our opponents that this is a team on a mission to win it all.
  4. That’s a reflection of coaching and team leadership.
  5. How do we know we haven’t?
  6. No, yesterday’s game is finished. Our players need to put yesterday behind them and build off of this effort and continue to get better. One of the keys to a great season is building confidence and maintaining focus and momentum to maintain the level of play we saw in the last half of last night’s game week after week and game after game. Hopefully our goalie has a great game. Our guys sniped some nasty shots at their dude. I hope he had nightmares.
  7. You don’t bench a player for a mistake. You bench someone for attitude problems, disciplinary issues, disruptive behavior, unsportsmanlike issues etc but your players can’t be afraid of making mistakes when they are playing hard. You don’t want you players playing tentatively.
  8. It wouldn’t surprise me.
  9. You guys are providing comic relief for your NDSU pals who monitor this fan forum. Gives them something to do before their game tomorrow.
  10. And players playing. Good group to build with. They seem to like each other. If they stay together they could be special.
  11. I would like to see them utilize Romfo’s athletic skills in different packages. I don’t see him moving ahead of either Feeney or Kaminski. I wouldn’t sell him short as a backup QB however. He has done some good things in practice and has a good arm, good quickness and decent speed.
  12. One might say that NDSU with 9 , Ill St with 6 and Mi St with 4 selections may have underperformed. SDSU is no surprise and I believe evidence that your opinion on finishing at or toward the top of the league is an advantage. UND, YSU and UNI at tied for 3rd with 5 each. I still think if a guy played up to AA or first team AConf ability he would be at least 2nd team regardless of where we finished.Ill St and Mi St got guys 10 guys on 1st or 2nd team and finished tied for 7th and 9th respectively.
  13. I still work with closely with athletes on a regular basis. I have a pretty good understanding of how kids have changed. You and the rest of “the squad” seem to be able to criticize others on a regular basis, but struggle responding when I or others disagree or criticize posts from Squad posters. How soft can you guys be? Sticking up for a UND athlete as he ends his career isn’t crying. Nothing on a fan forum gets me excited. I just feel the name calling and the meme posted were cheap shots at a guy ending his UND career.
  14. It has nothing to do with “feelings”. It was funny during the season. I believe calling the guy “Tommy Two Gloves” and reposting the meme as he moves on shows a lack of class and is disrespectful.
  15. Multiple players spoke about their support for Schuster during the season. I haven’t spoken to them. Your opinions on who should have been QB are just as valid as those who disagree. I view your meme during the season as different than the “Tommy two gloves” and meme as he prepares to move on.
  16. Surprised someone who claims to have played college BB would appreciate someone taking a cheap shot at an athlete on his way out. Most of the posters who played or coached at this level view it as a cheap shot. Fortunately, the guys I played with and coached always had each other’s backs and the backs of our fellow athletes.
  17. Have you have ever played the game or been in any team sport or even a job where you contributed anything beyond taking up space? If so, you would understand this is a cheap shot. Your posts over time indicate a lack of understanding of the basic fundamentals of football beyond what one can pick up from sitting on their ass in the bleachers or from their bike. Taking a cheap shot at a guy who busted his ass for UND FB over the years serves no purpose other than revealing an insight into who you are.
  18. Why the cheap shot? It was already reported that he has entered the portal. The kid played hard, had more success than failure. Very few of us have a clear understanding of what it takes to play and compete at this level. This is the type of nonsense that shows a lack of class. Most posters are mature enough to thank him for his dedication and efforts toward moving the program forward regardless of our frustrations with team performance.
  19. Based on what evidence? He did well when he played. If he continues to improve, and we protect him, it looks like he has all of the physical tools to be a very good QB. Kaminskii also has the physical tools to be a very good QB. He has no game experience yet. Don’t forget Romfo. He is very athletic and all he did before getting here was win Granted it was hs but he is a great athlete and never lost a game in HS. There has got to be a place for him in our offensive scheme. Hopefully, the opportunity to be the starting QB will lead to healthy competition which pushes all 3 of these guys to reach their full potential. This should allow a fresh approach to our potential offensive schemes, especially extending our passing game.
  20. I didn’t say that. I simply said you hire the best candidate. (When I used to go to Judy’s, even Maynard and Shorty could figure out what I meant). I also said IF there wasn’t a better candidate than Danny, all else being equal, I would reward his loyalty. I remember when people were even more opposed to hiring an assistant coach and former player from our struggling hockey team as a potential head coach. No one else was chomping at the bit to hire him either.
  21. We haves failed to utilize our tight ends in the passing game. They should often be our safety valve against certain blitzes. The delayed release by a TE and a crossing pattern or slant into the seem of the zone is tough to defend.
  22. If he is the best candidate. All else equal, I would reward his loyalty. If we find a better candidate, the job should go to the best available candidate.
  23. I’m not defending play calling, coaches decisions etc. My point was an opinion regarding more All Conf players and specifically one lineman’s selection dependent on those 2 games. Regardless of what play is called, if a given player beats the opponent on the plays that are called, it’s highly likely the players who consistently do that get noticed and the chance of team success markedly increases. Obviously, 8 in the box makes it more difficult to run the ball and blitzing multiple players etc make it more difficult to protect the passer. I get what you are saying but in my experience, seldom do players blame the coaches or their teammates for their performance. It’s a team game so coaches must accept responsibility and be held accountable. However, the players must accept responsibility for how they play. This year was a huge disappointment. It’s a time for self reflection for coaches and players. It’s a time for our annual evaluations to determine what we need to do as players, coaches, and administrators to do what it takes to move the program forward. If Chaves is going to stick with Bubba, the top priority is to hang on to the players and recruits we have and sort out any and all coaching and position deficiencies. If there is to be a change, it should be clean and quick. If not, there needs to be an aggressive approach to retention and improvement.
  24. Probably, buy we lost those games. In addition, we also struggled against Indiana State and Illinois State. I contend that we didn’t play well enough to have more selections. We would have had to run the ball better, pass and catch the ball better, to say nothing of playing defense better. Our players needed to play better. This isn’t high school where you are assigned a certain number of All Conf positions based on where you finished in the conference. You stated if we weren’t one of the top 3 teams “you better really stick out”. Didn’t we finish tied for 3rd? The MVFC has been the premier FCS conference for a number of years. Kilty has enough size that he wouldn’t have gotten missed. The coaches who selected the all-conf team didn’t feel he earned a first or second team pick. I’m not saying he was undeserving, but I’m saying the league coaches didn’t think so. He likes it here. He and his family have said they like the coaches and the school. He apparently has a girlfriend here. I would guess it would take significant NIL money and/or move to a Power 5 school but I’m just guessing. I recruiting pitch from a school with the personal to highlight his strengths could pull him away.
  25. It may be more accurate to say if he plays to his full potential he is first team all-conference. Coaches who watch hours of game film choose all-conference. They watch in detail how our linemen play. If we have a guy who doesn’t give up sacks, who bull dozes the defenders in the run game, who can get to the second level etc they know. If they don’t do it play after play and games after game they are often HM. The best guys elevate the play of their teammates. Kiley is a good tackle with great potential but lack of team success is only a small factor. Waletzko didn’t play on great teams either.
