Just like some mention numerous times regarding the extension? I wasn’t in favor of the extension but it happened. I pointed out that 90siouxfan hit the nail on the head. $$$. It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. I know that, I don’t need to continue to point out the obvious. But I’m not sure that we (including myself) couldn’t have done more. We haven’t stepped up to markedly improve coaches salaries in all sports except hockey. In answer to your question the answer is yes, it does fall on us as alumni, fans and supporters to come up with significant funds if we want to buyout contracts. Some folks have donated significant funds in the past few years to move the he program forward. Many compare us to the SU’s and USD. We now have the FB facilities , but aren’t quite there yet with salaries. So, we can be frustrated with where the extension has left us or we can do something about it. I may be wrong but an immediate coaching change will cost a lot of money.

I have no idea why Bubba’s contract was extended. You point out the obvious problem to making a change: money. The folks who seem to be demanding a change, aren’t willing or able pony to up $1 million. (One guy who claims to be “retired independently wealthy “ demands a change but isn’t listed as ever giving a substantial donation to UND. There are many more who are frustrated with the lack of success but don’t want to throw money at a contract buyout. No. None of them are making that kind of money.

President Armacost is by far the best President since Tom Clifford. Looking at the more important issues, Enrollment is growing, donations are up, new buildings and remodeling continue and our national reputation grows and the legislators seem to respect him. He isn’t going anywhere. Presidents this good are hard to find.

Of course I do. Why would I think comments from a committed recruits Dad warrant concern? Your vast experience as a player and coach has been so evident in your comments which seldom have any substance to them. Let’s not burn another thread by trading insults. You are correct and I don’t disagree. I just don’t see the point in inserting the same comments in every thread especially recruiting and especially after reading a comment from a committed recruits Dad. Sorry if you feel I “lashed out”. I keep forgetting what I might feel is my opinion can be hurtful to others. I apologize if you felt that way. You may be surprised at how much we agree on, we have different ways of trying to affect change.

I’m sure you are correct. It’s better to keep saying the same thing over and over again regardless of the thread cuz it has made such a positive difference in the program. Frankly, I have no issues if you wish to trade insults but PM me rather than ruin yet another thread.

So the message here is that recruits should take pause. One of the committed recruits Dad’s had commented on social media regarding this message from our fan base. You’ve made your same point over and over again but you want to drive home your negative message to potential recruits and their families. The fact is the future success of the program depends on recruiting. Would it be that difficult to keep these remarks in the fire coaches thread? I look at this thread to learn how we are doing with recruiting. So do potential recruits. These comments can hurt recruiting. We have enough issues with our on field struggles without discouraging recruits.

You raise a good question. I don’t believe that money will “work its way into athletic onfield performance “ if it means a shift in that support. Personally, although we are behind the SU’s I believe there is enough financial support for our programs to be successful. To me that means competing and frequently winning conference championships in WBB, MBB, VB, Tennis, Soccer and softball. Conference individual championships in Track and CC and occasional, if not frequent, team championships in CC and track. Hockey has the necessary financial support and the goal should be league and national championships and qualifying for playoffs yearly. Back to FB. Our standard should be qualifying for playoffs yearly, frequent league championships, more than our share of national championships and position our program to move to FBS if an attractive opportunity arises. In my mind, if we are already covering “allowed expenses, Alston program awards, and whatever the athletes add through NIL, our biggest need is coaches salaries. That will likely need to come from new money/donations. For too long, too many of us are waiting for the “big donors” to take care of these shortcomings. It’s been easy to do in hockey thanks to one major donor along with our sport with our largest fan base, also supporting generously. With FB when our team has failed to meet our expectations, we respond with many people canceling season tickets, refusing to attend games, and some donors discontinuing donations. Our collective response should be the opposite. We should continue to support our teams and our players. We don’t have to be happy with the results but they need our support. How many of us couldn’t dig deep to commit an additional $1000-$2000 per year. (For some of you just cutting your booze budget 10% would more than cover). I’m ok with the “squad groupies” hammering me for this opinion, but coaches salaries are one of the obvious areas we have been too slow to fix. If we want the next DeBoer, we need to be prepared to pay, not only the HC, but also the assistants. Same goes for our other non-hockey sports. I have learned over the years so many critics (not just in sports) always have great ideas how to build, expand, improve things as long as it’s someone else’s money and the subsequent product for us to enjoy or benefit from, doesn’t require much time, effort, or money from us. But I’m just one of the pissants from the outside looking in who doesn’t want to sit on my ass waiting for someone else to get things done

Reality is that when fans want to fire someone before the contract is up, they usually need to provide significant funds. The contract buyout is only a part of the overall cost with a coaching change. The hiring process can be expensive. I will bet you that $500,000 to $1,000,000 isn’t in the budget to do this.

I believe we need to stay focused on one step at a time. There is only so much money donors are willing to give for buyouts.

I’m surprised how easy it was for so many to assume this is a photo of Bubba sleeping (it might be). I’m surprised how easy it was for so many to believe this is a team meeting (it might be). Considering how many derogatory referrals made regarding “cotton tops”, “white haired guys sitting on their fat wallets” and how we haven’t kept up with changes over time, no one seems to question the validity of the photo nor the accompanying narrative. I maybe made the assumption that most of you are more technically savvy than I and I believe that’s an accurate assumption. I looked at this and my initial reaction was similar. However, knowing how often photos show people we are photographing have their eyes closed for that split second gives me pause. Knowing how easy it is to photo shop people onto different backgrounds gives me pause. Knowing how easy it is to create advertising showing a person who has never been to NY on a corner of NY city with a stunning NY city background that doesn’t exist gives me pause. Put that together with posts by “long time follower but never previously posted” who claims inside information with allegations regarding how players and coaches feel, gives me pause. Lastly the photo when posted doesn’t actually say he was sleeping at a team meeting gives me pause. Before, some you waste time with misdirected comments, read closely what I posted so far. I’m not defending anyone. All I’m saying is this may be a photo with Bubba asleep at a team meeting, but it may not be. In today’s dysfunctional political climate the courts so far have protected the “satirical” websites that can post photos and statements that are false as long as they claim it’s satire. I would suggest that if you want change, focus on the lack of success on the field ( if we were undefeated or 8-1, no one would waste time with a photo that may or may not be accurate). What will eventually drive coaching changes ( you don’t need to repeat the rhetoric about not hiring DeBoer, multiple extensions, etc) will be the failure of the program to succeed. Unless we win out this season I don’t see us making the playoffs Deal with the issue at the end of the season. Just my opinion.

I would argue that most calls are made by the OC or DC. The head coach oversees the entire operation and they usually inject their opinions and direction early in the week and during film sessions. The head coach may over rule certain calls or inject direction occasionally but most calls are the coordinators in most systems. Not all, some HC’s want to call their own plays.

I’m not arguing. I’m not necessarily disagreeing. I’m asking you to clarify. It shouldn’t be that difficult. I don’t make excuses for others. Putting anyone who doesn’t join the repeated bashing isn’t evidence that they disagree. I’m looking for a little insight as to statements about a country club atmosphere. I’ve experienced what that can be like with Jerry’s world in Dallas. Asking someone for clarification isn’t making alibis nor excuses.

I can promise you these guys aren’t ignoring the elephant in the room. They just aren’t going use their podcast to communicate with the decision makers.

I’m referring to the 360 podcast. They have a following that allows those who are interested in UND FB to learn more about the program and to get an insight from someone who excelled at every sport he played and played at UND. He has connections that most of us don’t. His criticism of the program will likely remain private. I have no issue with those who want to publicly criticize. In my experience, the public bashing, personal insults etc. get people nowhere. However, I don’t think we should expect the same type of criticism from their program.

No. You have made general statements without explanations. Are you referring to staff, fans, athletes, supporters, what/who??

Those guys do a nice job with a podcast to generate interest and support of the program. Although they don’t take a negative public stance, you are mistaken if you don’t think they are frustrated and upset with our lack of success over the past 10yrs. To bash the our athletic programs publicly hurts our program and subsequently can adversely affect recruiting, and support both financially and otherwise. That isn’t the purpose of their podcast.

Absolutely. If the coach is the problem (some say the failures are entirely on him), then a new coach is all that’s needed. I believe we aren’t that far from having the personnel capable of winning so I don’t want to lose guys to the portal. Too often, teams lose a number of their best or potentially best players to the portal, so yeah, I think it’s a bad thing. Losing the next 3 games is also a bad thing. Regardless of coaching change, these players need to play up to their full potential and establish a “winning culture”. It’s not easy once you accept losing as OK for any reason.

Where do you get the stupid idea I don’t have a problem with our performance this season? If so, you aren’t very perceptive. If you feel better saying the same thing over and over again have at it. I don’t like or dislike it. I don’t care that much I don’t see the point.
