I'm amazed everyone doesn't just realize we have a ton of talent on the ice when the two teams meet and it's fun as hell to watch. Who's the better player, better team, blah, blah, blah.....sorry. I'm hoping the Sioux and Gophers meet Saturday night and winner has bragging rights till next year. That's all this means! That said, Go Sioux!

I'm getting it now. Here's where http://usahockey.com/

Anybody have audio yet? Not from the USA site. Anybody know where else it might be listened to?
-
The question wasn't UND or the USHL, it was UND or Major Junior. Either way he would have been playing with older players.

Why the heck don't they have on-line ordering available for season ticket holders? Trying to get a call in during that 2 day period could be tough if everyone is calling.

Jeonette said he believes that UND tries to use the name in a respectful manner, but "the biggest problem is how do you convince that of the opposing team?" he said. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2174858 This is the biggest problem? This is the hostile and abusive climate? Keeping the opposing team from saying Sioux sucks? This guy is right on campus and this is his biggest concern! Excuse me, are we blowing smoke with this "hostile and abusive" environment crap? I think you know my stand. Geez.

Somebody who knows how start a poll on this forum. I for one will vote to retain the name. Go Sioux!

I say we sue, but either way there is no way we give up the Fighting Sioux name. Our athletes can go on the road and play and I'm sure they will agree. I also think all Sioux fans should boycott and encourage others to boycott the Sioux Casinos, let's hit em where it hurts. And I think we should disassociate ourselves from the Sioux in our pregame announcement on respect, and change it to a mythical warrior, as the Sioux of today command no respect. Yes, I'm bitter, but I say keep the name. It can't be any worse than it is because they can't force us to change the name. Spiteful? Somewhat. When I think Sioux I think Sioux pride, and they're upset that we have that and they don't - apparhently.

Would you guys exchange addresses already so you can bicker in private!

Then I would have to say the second one would be, ironic as it may seem, a case of discrimination based on name. They are punishing us for having a name they don't approve of, but that has been in use for years. I can see them not allowing new schools to use Indian names or they won't be allowed into the NCAA, but to punish a school that has been free of any type of NCAA scandal disciplined for the name it uses is ludicrous. And then we have to determine why they are penalizing us. Because the name is racist? That is open to interpretation and precendence has been set that it is not deemed racist by all Indians, just by some. We're talking years in the courts on this one. And if the Sioux name is racist, can the Washington Redskins use their name? Can the Cleveland Indians? I wouldn't think so. But I'm not a lawyer and I could be way off base on this, but that's my $.02 worth.

I would guess the first one would be for infringement of a previously existing contract in regards to the NCAA Regionals at the Ralph and the NCAA's dictate concerning the cover-up.

GrahamKracker, you have the biggest chip on your shoulder of anyone I've ever seen (and I've never even seen you). I will no longer entertain you with argument as you will always have that chip on your shoulder; Sioux name or not.

Amazing. If it doesn't come right out and say it is to honor the Native American's then in your mind there is no honor in selecting the name. And it does suggest honoring the original Sioux inhabitants, nothing about the current generation of Sioux. We honor the legend of your ancestors similar to how Denver honors the Pioneers that were the white settlers taming the new frontier. I suppose we should change that name too, since they likely never came out and said it was to honor the Pioneers. If you see no honor in the Sioux name we can't make you believe it. However, just because you don't see it doesn't mean that we aren't all proud of the people that first settled these harsh lands, whether in teepee or log cabin, those were hearty people well deserving of honor. Frankly, I don't know how they survived the elements.

This Native American loves the Fighting Sioux name
oldralph replied to nativeamericanson's topic in UND Nickname
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but GrahamKracker is pretty much alone in these arguments. Where are all the other people that are so adamant for changing the name? Where is your support in general? I know you say you have all these decrease from various tribes and all, but do NONE of them have Internet cabability and the desire to come to a peaceful solution? Why is GK the only one talking? Sorry, I'm becoming redundant. -
I second the North Stars...hey, nobody is using it. But keep Sioux at all costs.

I keep hearing from the name-change proponents tell us about how a democratic nation is run . Isn't a democracy all about what the majority of the people want? Am I to understand that if a majority of the people favor the Sioux name (I mean in America/North Dakota, not in an Indian sovergn nation) then we should honor the wishes of that voting population? Take a look around, the majority of North Dakotan's favor keeping the Sioux name, and a majority of the country wants to keep their nicknames too. It appears to me the tail is trying to wag the dog (and much too much lately the dog is shaking). After all, they are just nicknames. We don't pretend to be Sioux, but we love who we are. I for one am all for letting the democratic process play out. A vote would be best, but we'll likely never get that and have to give the name change proponents a chance, so let's get this thing into the courts and put the issue to rest. There should have to be an agreement between all people that whatever the outcome the other side has to honor it. If they say change it, then change it and move on. That is how a democracy works. If they say you live in America and have the right to free speech, then the other side has to try to accept it with dignity. Let it happen and I'll let the chips fall where they may. I don't like lawyers and judges, but this is America and there are many disagreements that are settled in the courts when the people can't agree. Get er' done and let's move on. And by the way, I have several Indian friends, one Sioux and 2 Ojibwa and not a one of them objects to the Sioux name. OK, whose keeping score? What is really the score when you count all Americans? You can keep a personal score if you like, but that only counts for YOUR experience. You forget that almost ALL of the Sioux Tribes have asked for UND to change its logo. (The only tribe abstaining happens to be the smallest one, representing about 600 people). This isn't about a few people here and there who like or don't like the name. That just isn't how our democratic nation is run. I've heard the argument that Native people need to get together and agree on the issue. That is so ridiculous. Do Americans unanimously agree on all issues? NO! That is why we have elected officials. They are responsible for determining the needs and wants of their constituents. So it is with the Sioux Tribal Governments. And their decisions are that their SIOUX constituents do not want UND to use their name or identity as the school logo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Am I looking at the correct roster for Denver? I count 7 seniors, I don't think that equates to having almost everyone back. I call that major losses. And most of them were decent to real good players.

That's fine, I wasn't really trying to attack your point. I just wanted to show how dominant the WCHA has been in the grand scheme of things, and that most of Michigan's titles were won as a member of our league. I apologize if my post gave the wrong impression. Go Sioux!
