  1. Stop getting people on this board's hopes up.

You're just going to piss off a lot of people when the Big Sky refuses to expand east.

The Big Sky has already refused NDSU and SDSU. Do you think that the people on this board don't know that and have enough intelligence to figure out that the Big Sky may or may not expand east, especially with the comments from Fullerton saying that geography played a part in the rejection of the XDSU's? I don't see any emoticons in your post, so I'm assuming that your post was serious.

  2. Freeman dismissed from Grizzlies

University of Montana football coach Bobby Hauck announced Sunday night that he has dismissed cornerback Qwenton Freeman from the team for "not adhering to disciplinary guidelines" handed out to him earlier in the week.
"These are serious matters, and it is very disturbing," said UM Director of Athletics Jim O'Day. "At this point, we are following a zero tolerance policy, and Qwenton made a bad error in judgment."
  3. Lacrosse as a varsity sport at UND is nothing more than a message board dream.

Literally, someone watched the DI lacrosse championship on TV and said "UND should have lacrosse".

It's not at all like it's on the UND AD's radar.

Thankfully Red Jarrett and a group of young men in 1947 didn't have the same attitude that you have. Those guys started with a dream and shocked Michigan, the eventual 1948 national champions. Hockey History. Sure it's a different time, but all it takes is a dream and some guts to get it going and you never know where you can go. Everyone concentrate really hard on the word "lacrosse". Are you listening Mr. Buning?

  4. First flight

UND and Raytheon are teaming up to fly an unmanned aircraft in restricted airspace west of Grand Forks this week, an event one UND official says will be a first for North Dakota.

According to Al Palmer, director of flight operations at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, the flight will be the state's first unmanned aircraft system launch. Representatives from the school's aviation and engineering schools will help fly a Raytheon Cobra UAS at Camp Grafton South near Devils Lake, a facility used by both the North Dakota Air and Army National Guard.

The future of aviation is indeed at UND.

  5. I remember my dad taking me fishing for trout at McVille Dam when I was a kid. Great memories.

I went deep sea fishing in the Gulf last month and caught a bunch of red snapper. I don't get out too often, so I do most of my "fishing" Here. One day when I have more time, I'm going to get back into fishing. Very relaxing.

Ice fishing is the best.

Unfortunately, it's not something you can do down here.

  6. So I guess the player that Fetch was refering to was way off base! There are going to be players who are more informed than others as to what is going on,as well as there are going to be "inside insiders"as Geauxsioux might call them, that are more informed than say Geauxsioux himself, Trunk Monkey, and even Mikejm.

I am flattered that you find my "inside insiders" quotable, but I for one am not informed as to what may or may not be going on within the Athletic Department. As I have stated in the past I plan to support UND athletics, which means that I support our athletic director until I have good reason not to.

  7. I've actually had some interaction with one of the "players" in this drama and he is amused at the talk here. His comment was something to the effect that the "informed" are quite un-informed.

No, that's just not possible. I thought these guys were inside insiders. ;)

  8. I think the fact that they aren't even going to start looking until next April is a sign that UND will be dropping baseball. Naming an interim coach until May 2008 gets the Sioux through the last year of the NCC. If the Sioux were looking to take the baseball team to DI, wouldn't you want to have a new coach on board recruiting for that move at the very least?

    Lacrosse anyone?

  9. Playing the waiting game

The possible hidden gem among the Manitobans that could be selected this weekend is Winnipeg product Jason Gregoire. After playing for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Winnipeg South Blues as a 16 year old in 2005-06, he left for the Lincoln Stars of the Tier 1 United States Hockey League last season. Despite missing a good portion of the season with an ankle injury, he scored 16 goals and added 20 assists in 32 games in Lincoln.
  10. I know it's dangerous, but hey it's my wife  - If she wants to go that way - it should be up to her. She is not dependant on society to pay the expenses :D

How can they have this Click it or Ticket thingy

She was not stopped for any reason except No Seat Belt ;)

One thing increased seat belt usage does help with is insurance. Think how many less injuries/deaths are being paid out by insurance companies when seat belts are used.

  11. Upon further thought...

Wouldn't the phrase "regionally competitive" be a term used more for Division II, with how the NCAA handles playoffs in Division II?

Is it possible that the AD is just hiring for the last year of the NCC??

  12. Within a span of 1 month, both the softball and baseball coaches have resigned, UND does not have a DI facility for either one and the job listing for the softball coach requires only that the team be "regionally competitive". I don't think that there too many job postings that would list that as long term goal. Short term maybe, but not long term. Are we seeing the end of these two sports at UND?

The Big Sky does not offer baseball and softball does not get an autobid due to the lack of teams.

Is the addition of lacrosse coming next? :D

  13. Senators 2007 draft preview

The Senators have a deep prospect group on defense led by 2005 ninth overall pick Brian Lee, who will likely play another season with University of North Dakota before turning pro. Next in line are several intriguing projects; Tomas Kudelka, Mattias Karlsson, Michal Barinka, Kirill Lyamin, and Derek Smith, a Lake Superior State University product who recently signed as a free agent after going undrafted. In goal, Glass, Guard and Elliott all had disappointing seasons in Binghamton, but at least one of them should emerge as an NHL goaltender in the future.
    Looooking good.
  14. Ok, In simple english as stated in the article here it is.

"A disagreement between UND President Charles Kupchella and Chancellor Eddie Dunn over a medical school funding request during the legislative session takes up a third of Kupchella's otherwise positive review."

Did not the employ of UND go to the legislators looking for funding?

Did not kuppy himself state it was underfunded and therefore explained that as the reason for what he did?

Bottom line is your guys did the same thing, went to the legislators not the board and to which many posters here on SS.Com were furious about when NDSU did it. All I'm asking is where's the same outcry now from the sioux faithful over this? I have yet to see any. To me that stinks of hypocrisy. You can try to spin it anyway you want bottom line is your guys went to the legislators looking for funding to which so many on this board howled about when NDSU did the same thing. You can dish it but you can't take it!

DI, I agree with you that the U's shouldn't go to the legislators for $$. My comments stem from you highlighting in red that this lacks the fireworks of Dunn/Chapman and saying that I'm being a hypocrite. You have to admit that hiring and attorney and requesting that Dunn excuse himself from the review is on a different plane.

I think if you look through this thread, you'll find more people were questioning Chapman's behavior than they were commenting on the funding.

  15. I couldn't resist coming over to check and see if all the consipiracy theorists were going to be all over this one. Of course not, it's going on in your own camp. Remember the old saying those who live in glass houses!!! Great to see you guys keeping your track record of tunnel vision or a blind eye to what you don't want to admit too in tact. Hypocrits once again. You were hypocrits on the DI move and now this.

Sorry, but I don't see where I'm being hypocritical. Saying the story is probably newsworthy, but lacks the fireworks of Dunn/Chapman, I think is dead-on. Chapman couldn't find the words to explain his behavior, so instead blamed Dunn for trying to get him fired and then hires an attorney. Kupchella responded in writing to Dunn's review of his performance, even agreeing that there needs to be more cooperation between the universities. Which one appears to have more fireworks?

  16. Statewide station coming to North Dakota

North Dakota will soon have a sports talk radio station blanketing the entire state, as well as parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana and Manitoba.

This large coverage area the fifth largest in the United States could be an attractive home for UND and North Dakota State athletics when the schools' current contracts expire, according to Dan Hammer, sports director of Radio Fargo-Moorhead.

    This should get interesting.

  17. Dunn criticizes Kupchella

North Dakota State University President Joseph Chapman wasn't the only president to receive negative comments in his yearly evaluation after a rift with the university system chancellor.

A disagreement between UND President Charles Kupchella and Chancellor Eddie Dunn over a medical school funding request during the legislative session takes up a third of Kupchella's otherwise positive review.

Probably newsworthy, but lacks the fireworks and intrigue of the Dunn/Chapman saga or the Pott/Chapman saga.

In a June 4 response to Dunn, Kupchella wrote that he couldn't agree more about the need to cooperate with NDSU and the rest of the university system.

On the issue of the medical school request, Kupchella wrote that the School of Medicine is under-funded and was doing nothing more than carrying out its mission by going to legislators and asking for funding consideration.

A medical school advisory committee requested the extra funding after the university system's budget request and only after it was clear that the budget surplus was much larger than projected, Kupchella also wrote.

We'll see Thursday if all of the 10 presidents contracts are extended.

  18. Another possible player...

    A dose of both extremes

Svihovec won't be through with summer football after Saturday's game. He'll play on the 11-man West all-star team in the Shrine Bowl, July 21 at Grand Forks.

That could be his last football game. Svihovec plans to attend the University of North Dakota, where he'll tackle a major in pre-dentistry.

Football is still a possibility, however.

"The signing deadline has long passed, but the coaches (at UND) told me I could try out as a walk-on if I wanted to," Svihovec said. "I'll wait until after these two games, and then decide."

  19. Actually it was my signature for a while. :D

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." -- William Henry "Bill" Cosby, Jr., Ph.D.

Well, you and PCM look alike.

I do remember that now that you mention it.

  20. Ideally, that's how it should work. As a practical matter, it won't work that way. And I'm not singling out the American Indian member if one's included. There's almost always some respresentative of some constituency who's not happy that the candidate they favored isn't selected. You see it over and over again.

I think you've used the quote before PCM...

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
