  1. Higher ed editorial got it wrong. By Eddie Dunn

At no time did I advocate a position different from that of the board. If I had, it would have been insubordination and grounds for dismissal.

I also do not understand why The Forum editorial board reported that I apparently demanded President Chapman apologize or I would suggest termination of his contract. There is absolutely no basis for that statement. At no time have I made a statement of that nature or even hinted at it. In fact, a Forum article on May 19, completely contradicts any suggestion that I demanded an apology. The article written by Amy Dalrymple correctly states that,

  3. $77 million for Bemidji events center

Leo A. Daly, the architectural firm hired to design the Bemidji Regional Events & Convention Center, has turned in a preliminary budget projecting the cost for the facility at $76.8 million in 2009 dollars.

"This is obviously a big concern for a project that was originally requested from the City Council to be a $50 million project," said Moose Richards, chairman of the Events Center Facility Subcommittee.

Johnson pointed out BSU President Jon Quistgaard's Feb. 15 speech announcing the need to cut $5 million from the university budget over the next three years. Quistgaard said in that speech that the survival of the men's hockey program rests on the acceptance of BSU by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and raising $2.5 million in pledges by May 2008.

On May 1, the WCHA sent out a release stating the organization wouldn't expand beyond the current 10 teams and BSU wouldn't be able to apply at this time.

  5. Why is that Fargo people take potshots at GF? The city has made incredible strides since 1997 and still you see this kind of mentality. :silly:

  6. Forum Editorial: Chapman, Dunn tiff no big deal

The recently reported (Forum, May 19) dustup between the president of North Dakota State University and the chancellor of the N.D. University System is little more than that: a dustup. It has more to do with miscommunications and egos than substance and seriousness. Its effect on the operations of NDSU and the university system is negligible.

Chancellor Eddie Dunn, whose interim appointment to the post expires June 30, and NDSU President Joseph Chapman clashed over a legislative measure which would have stripped power from the state Board of Higher Education. Chapman opposed it and said so. Dunn apparently supported it. But Chapman

  7. Gas is still $3.05 in Pensacola today.

I heard on the radio that there is a water pipeline leak in the BP system, which will impact supply. Holiday weekend coming up and a prediction of a busy hurricane season. Get ready for some HIGH prices.

  8. Two articles on UND's joint venture in North Carolina:

Aviation program's new home dedicated in Friday's activities

Two years ago, Robeson Community College and the University of North Dakota announced at the Mid-Atlantic Fly-In and Sport Aviation the creation of a joint aviation program between the two schools.

During the fly-in on Friday, they dedicated the program's new home - an 8,000 square-foot hangar at the Lumberton Municipal Airport.

The ceremony kicked off the first day of the annual three-day event that features military aircraft displays, fireworks, live music and food.

Bruce Smith, dean of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences in North Dakota, called the facility "beautiful."

"We take pride in being a part of it," he said. "We pride ourselves on having a cold climate and warm hearts, and certainly here in North Carolina you have great southern hospitality and it's a perfect match."

  9. PRAIRIE VOICES: High gas prices: Economist explains it all

Over time, the demand for gasoline has increased, but our refinery capacity has not. From 1990 to 2007, the refinery capacity in the United States to produce finished gas has only gone up 11 percent. Meanwhile, the demand continues to rise.

So, in almost 20 years, refinery capacity has changed very little.

In the 1980s, we had an excess capacity to produce gasoline. So if a refinery got shut down or had to have maintenance, we basically could absorb the shutdown and still continue to make a lot of gasoline. But today, we're running at about 90-plus percent of our capacity.

Three large refineries in the United States now are undergoing unexpected maintenance. One in California, one in Indiana and the other, I believe, in Texas.

A great interview with a macroeconomist.

  10. Letter reveals clashes

The North Dakota State University president feared he could face firing over a disagreement with Chancellor Eddie Dunn and hired an attorney to assist him, a letter from the university system attorney says.

Joseph Chapman also asked Dunn to excuse himself from writing a performance evaluation because Dunn demonstrated a personal bias against him.

I don't know which one I trust less Chapman or Paulsen.

  11. I believe Dale Lennon loves UND and would have probably retired here and still could....

But there is alot of friction between administration and the coaching staffs, I have never seen the morale as low as it is right now in many areas....

In the past some coaches would not even entertain other options, I believe that climate has now changed....

That is about all I can say.....

With a new president coming in within the next year, would that change the climate?

  12. A dead gopher

Sorry Goon, The Sicatoka had it correct in post #148. It was a badger. My post was just reminiscing about the event. I guess I didn't really say that Sica was correct. :D

  13. "If you took 5% off the average yearly earnings of the top 10% they would still be able to maintain their fatcat lifestyle, but at the same time an extra 5% added on to their average yearly salaries would really help out the middle to lower class."

Well this system is already in place it is called the tax system. The top 10% pay 37% and the bottom 40% pay 0%. This is a conservative tax system and I think it is whack. The top 40% of taxpayers pay over 99% of all income tax. Just think if the liberals get in the white house, I could easily see the top 10% paying 100% of their income. I could see them trying to push legislation to have the top 40% pay everyone else to live in the country.

Read my signature line. The Fair Tax truly is the answer to a lot of the problems in this country. The problem is getting it to pass in the congress, because if it does pass, congress loses alot of power.

Imagine a businesses making financial decisions based on what is best for the company and employees rather than what makes the best tax sense. We would all benefit from the Fair Tax. There would be no benefit for American companies to have their hq in far away lands The American economy would explode.

  14. A badger, four legged, not two legged, that had assumed room temperature.

And for the record I had nothing with it to do. Ya can't prove nothin'!

I was a couple of sections over from the press box when it happened. If I remember correctly it fell right in front of the Bison homer, Adelson. The Wisconsin wars of the early '80's were great. :D

  15. Obscure award, yes, but worth noting that the firm that designed the UND is recognized for their design.
