  1. Having left GF 12 years ago there are times that I do miss the place. Since I married someone from Louisiana, the chances of me ever living there are slim. She's been to ND in March once and April once and she thought it was cold then.

Mostly what I miss is UND sports. I rarely missed a FB, BB or hockey game.

Heading up next week for the BB 100 years banquet and catch a few games. My dad played in the 50's. I can't wait to see an actual event at REA. I've been on tours of the place, but never seen a game there.

  2. I know this is probably off the wall and may have been covered long ago, but I just wonder why UMD joined the NCC, knowing that UND could possibly leave. I've been reading here and other places that there is a possiblity of the NCC and No. Sun merging. It just doesn't make much sense.

My out way out there thought is of a new conference being formed with UND and some hockey buddies. St. Cloud, Minn. State and Duluth cannot be kept as Division II forever. Some other possible schools to join the conference could be Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and of course UNO.

I have no idea where most of these schools are in the DI vs. DII thought process and like I said it way out there.

  3. That doesn't mean that the state says hockey is the number one sport in general.

Besides that poll was 401 people with an error or 5%!

So that negates the 19% to 13% lead taht UND Hockey has over NDSU Football.

19 minus 13 is 6, which is more than the 5% margin of error.

Maybe it should go the other way and it is a difference of 11.

I also notice that the most hated opponent is U of Minnesota. Definitely hockey.

  4. To say that the entire state's favorite sport is hockey is a lie.

Fargo, GF, and Bismark have nice HS hockey teams. Other than that, the sport is non-existant.

It's such an expensive sport to play and provide facilities for that only the largest cities have hockey facilities.

The class A football tournament and the class B bball tournament prove my point.

I'd even go so far as to say wrestling, baseball, and volleyball are higher up than hockey.

    Nice try.

  5. How were champions determined before 1973 (the current divisional system)?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I was in Hattiesburg, MS recently and saw signs at the stadium saying that USM was the "Small College National Champion" in 1958.

  6. I have been on this board as a guest for about the past year and am not really sure how to do posting, but thought that I would give this a try.

I live in Pensacola about a mile from the Gulf Power plant, which received huge damage. Although my house did not sustain any damage, most people that I know did. One of the guys that I work that lives in Pace lost his roof another that lives in the Garcon Point area lost his house to the storm surge.

The daily effort to locate gasoline and get around town isn't fun. My parents live in GF and I know what they went through with the flood. When I talked to them over the weekend they said that the conditions were similar, but with all of the damage to the infrastructure I would say that hurricanes are far worse.

I evacauted Pensacola last Tuesday and headed up to LaGrange GA. It took about 7.5 hours for a trip that usually takes 4 hours. Most people that I know that "rode out the storm" said that they would never do it again.

Since we do not have any electricity, my wife and two girls are staying in Louisiana for the time being. Can't wait for life to get back to somewhat of a norm.
