Now all of the band wagon fans will begin showing up again!

Great job ladies. Those shot numbers are pretty nice.

The ladies got the win last night 3-2 over Vermont. We will see if the ladies can follow it up with the sweep today.

I believe it is you that is getting desperate. The fact is you are always on here complaining but never have a foot to stand on. You have made it perfectly clear that your problem is that giant rich-white-guy chip on your shoulder. That must be a heavy burden to carry around every day.

HaHaHaHaHa The N-C-$-$ is so deep in it's own !@$!. I would love to be at a news conference and ask Mr. Brand about all of this. Now that would be some back-talking. I can only imagine the excuses he would come up with. HaHA... Great thread!

FYI: Kennesaw State University is now DI. As far as the other teams mentioned, I don't know. Someone in the athletic department would have to answer that.

I have never bought into the "we should go DI cause NDSU did". I don't think very many people consider that as any sort of valid argument for DI. It simply makes UND fans look jealous, envious, and ignorant. I am however concerned about our schedules in DII. Currently our non-conference schedules are filled with NSIC and DAC8 schools. This does not excite me at all. Next year, the NSIC will have 2 more conference members. NSIC members will play less non-conference games. This will cause all NCC schools to have even more trouble finding non-conference games. Does this mean we are going to see even more games with DAC8 members? This honestly worries me. I feel that when the NCC was at 9 members, it was the best possible position for UND. We had a great conference schedule with just enough room for some good quality non-conference games. If we were in this same situation, I would not be promoting a move to DI. However things have changed greatly. We have lost 3 well known, fully funded, state-named schools from the conference. That creates alot more non-conference games that we have to fill. Unfortunately the schools that replaced games against UNC, NDSU, and SDSU are very low funded, unknown named schools. I do not want to see even more games with Minot State, Mayville State, Valley City State, etc. I don't remember us playing Dickinson State recently. Maybe we can get a few games with them too. So now we are left looking for possible new members for the NCC. I think the addition of the Washington schools in FB was a good move. They seem like quality programs from decent sized, state named schools. Unfortunately this does not solve any of our scheduling problems in all of our other sports. So who are we going to try to convince to move to the NCC? Winona State is the name thrown around the most. I see two problems with this. 1. Why would Winona want to give up their status as one of the top schools in the NSIC? They receive an autobid in all sports when they win their conference. And to compete in the upper half of the NCC they would have to increase their schollarships, increase recruiting budgets, and most likely have more travel. And 2. Winona State does not excite me any more than playing DAC schools. So who else do we look at? The only other schools in the region that I would like to see are Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. Are they possible? Who knows. I am sorry for such a long post. But UND athletics have changed alot since 2000. We have began playing in some amazing new facilities. Unfortunately the quality of the teams we are playing against in these facilities has gone down.

As Bisonguy already pointed out, there is no DII hockey championship. Therefore our hockey teams do not count for the 1 men's and 1 women's teams to play up a level. We could still sponsor 1 more DI team in each mens and womens. The only sports that can't be used in the 1 Up rule is Football, Basketball, and Baseball (softball?). That is how we could add D1 Lacrosse without moving DI in all sports. Also there are a couple sports that don't have Division classifications, it is just called the NCAA championship. Minnesota State sponsors women's bowling which is one of the sports that doesn't have Division classifications. Not that I am going to hold my breath till UND gets women's bowling.

I hate to ask a question knowing that the answer is probably already in the thread, but I don't really feel like trying to read through 36 pages, especially on my parents dial up internet. I would be here all night. I am out visiting my parents for New Years. I was talking about how I had to find some place nearby that would be carrying the game. My neighbors mentioned that they have the Dish satellite. Is there anyway to pick up the game signal on this? If not I will just go into Grenora or Williston and watch the game at the bar.

It is possible though that the classification review committee could decide that UND should stay DII in it's primary sports but consider adding 1 more DI men's sports and 1 more DI women's sports, i.e. Lacrosse, or move up 1 men's and 1 women's sport already offered to DI.

Okay, I sat and went through every school and wrote down their information. Because I did it all by hand I may have switched a few numbers up. If anyone catches any mistakes let me know so that I can change them. The numbers look like they are all from 2003. Sorry I couldn't get it in a better graph so that it was easier to read. I didn't really want to start a new thread for this article but thought it fit here pretty well. The Fargo Forum had an article today about the NDSU Foundation buying homes along North University Drive. The only reason this caught my eye is because I have often wondered why we don't hear about UND doing this more often. As star2city pointed out, UND is very land locked, railyards to the south, I-29 to the west, and the residential area to the east. With the recent development of the Bronson property, the most logic place for UND to grow is from University Ave towards 6th. I don't know if UND already owns some of the residential homes in the area. But for the price of the proposed parking ramp, UND could buy alot of these houses over the next few years. For now, parking lots could be made to help with the parking problem not only on campus but also for when events are going on the Engelstad. I know alot of these houses have been bought recently by parents of UND students for their child to live in and pay for them by friends living there and paying rent. Now nobody needs to jump on me because they live in the area. I am not saying that UND should go in, buy all of these houses and tear em down right away. UND could purchase these properties over the years as they go on the market. In the long run it would create room for UND to eventually build a second quad with classroom space. More classroom space is already needed and with UND looking to create new programs and expand it's research in the future, more room will eventually be needed. In the St. Cloud Times article it stated that there had been 51 school move to DI since 1985. Does anybody know where we could find a list of these schools for comparative measures?

Both the Men's and Women's swimming teams are ranked #2 in the latest poll. FightingSioux.com I also just noticed that collegeswimming.com has it's own forum section for anyone that is a true fan who wants to discuss swimming and diving.

Just to clear the air. I sent an e-mail to Mayor Mike Brown and a few of the City Councle members. Here is what my e-mail said: This is a reply that I received from Hal Gershman: Note the sentence: "The city has NO financial interest in the hotel or the water park."

That is what has suprised me. I thought that there would be more people upset about the idea of cutting baseball and softball. I like the idea of Lacrosse. But if we are going to cut sports to support other sports, I would like to see our existing sports fully funded first. Even if Lacrosse isn't a real possibility, I wouldn't mind seeing baseball and softball dropped and their schollarships and coaches salaries transferred to sports like women's hockey and soccer.

Men's Hockey, Women's hockey, Football, and Lacrosse all should have NC opportunities. I also think that with the correct funding* swimming and diving could be very competative. They may not necessarily win National Championships every year, but I think they could be very competative. Someone made a comment to me once that really stuck... If it was all about winning National Championships, everyone would be moving to the NAIA. I really do like the idea of a DI NCC. It would help solve most of the travel issue with a DI move. It would also help keep the fan interest with known schools. *Obviously funding is the key issue in this entire debate.

Is it NDSUs going DI that is affecting their recruiting or is it their transitional period? There is a difference.

Don't forget our big rivalry game with Minot State coming up.

They just reported on KVLY news that the Alerus Center is predicting a $144,000 loss. If this number is accurate it will be the most successful year since the Alerus Center opened. They stated that many of the regional and national conventions that the Al has applied for have told them to reapply once the attached hotel opens. EDIT: I bet adding some DI Lacrosse games to the yearly schedule would help out that deficite!

I am just hoping that we get UM-Crookston back on the schedule. Playing them multiple times a year in every other sport has really made me miss the FB matchup.
