I watched the 2007 Men's World Curling Championship in Edmonton on CBC today. They were playing commercials for the 2008 Men's World Curling Championship at the Ralph next year. The Rexall Place arena, home of the Edmonton Oilers, set a new attendance record beating the 2003 championship in Winnipeg. It'll be interesting to see what kind of attendance the Ralph can draw and if it will be as Canadian fan heavy as the World Juniors were. www.worldmenscurling2008.com It took me seeing the commercial a few times today before the whole "Rock the Ralph" slogan sunk in. haha I hope that the Ralph goes after more events like this, the World Juniors, the Women's World Hockey Championship, etc. Events like this are great exposure for Grand Forks, NoDak and UND.

I agree with Jim. It is better to weed out the few skippies who may appear than it is to turn all of those sports fans away who want to discuss UND athletics. Thanks and keep up the good work Jim!

I was there in 2005 and had a great time, even with the outcome of the game. The Dakotadome is definately on my short list of road trips for this upcoming school year.

Anybody in the: Mayville Portland Hatton Buxton or Hillsboro areas who don't want to sit at home and watch the game alone, join us at the Top Hat Lounge in Mayville. There are numerous TVs around the bar to go with the Big Screen. If you know you are coming to join us, please let me know with a PM. I am hoping to get some people together to help make some snacks, etc. and I'd like to give the owner an idea if he should expect 5 or 45.

The only thing I want to see changed about the uniforms is to replace the Notre Dame logo. With the move to DI, it is time to begin using a logo that will become synonymous with the University of North Dakota.

Or Walsh Hall. Or any of the other dorms on campus full of students who drink. Or students of other universities. Or heck, even name changers looking to create some negative publicity right before the hockey tournament. I was a member of a fraternity. If any of us had ever been involved in something like this, we would have been immediately dismissed from the chapter and never have an opportunity to be an active member again. If it was multiple people from a chapter, the fraternity risks sanctions and punishments from the university. So as others have pointed out, until more information is known, there is no use pointing fingers.

I haven't seen it posted yet but may have missed it. Wisconsin beat Duluth 4-1 to win their second straight National Championship in front of 3,335 fans. Not a bad attendance for women's hockey. The WCHA is still the only conference to win a NC. UMD in 01, 02 and 03. UM in 04 and 05. And UW in 06 and 07. The Badgers finished an impressive 36- 1- 4!!! Watford City, ND native Mikka Nordby is a junior on their team. Hopefully the Sioux will be competing like this in the near future!

I have been scouring that website for the last couple of weeks and FargoBison still beat me to the punch. Dang work. I am glad to hear this. It should be a good matchup. SUU has been at 40 schollarships for a while and this last season apparently jumped to 57. It is expected that they will be getting close to the full 63 this season. It is also a school that is connected both to the Great West and the Mid-Con. Considering the Buning has already stated those are our 2 target conferences, SUU is a good school to become friends with. I hope we get a return home game in 2008.

Umm, UND could possibly be playing in that game. As a Sioux fan, I know I would love to watch the ladies play for a National Championship on national TV.

I've looked a couple times but this is still the only mention of their 2007 schedule I can find on SUU's website (I found the picture rather enjoyable! hehe). I'm guessing they are waiting to see what is decided as far as the Great West. Sounds like we should know more by the end of the month. Dated Feb. 5th 2007 SUU Schedule (tentative) Date / Opponent / Time Sept. 1 / At Montana / Noon Sept. 8 / Open Sept. 15 / Southern Illinois / 6:00 Sept. 22 / McNeese State / 6:00 Sept. 29 / Open Oct. 6 / At Montana State / TBA Oct. 13 / At Youngstown State / TBA Oct. 20 / UC Davis* / 1:00 Oct. 27 / At North Dakota State* / 1:00 Nov. 3 / Cal Poly* / 1:00 Nov. 10 / At South Dakota State* / 1:00 Nov. 17 / At Northern Iowa / TBA *Great West Conference game

Considering the dominace our S&D teams have had in the NCC, I am surprised that we have never squeeked out a National Championship. How many times have we been runners-up?
-
I never posted that!

Tonight's game was a very close game. Most of the game felt like UND was a little slower but obviously played well enough to take it to overtime. So then one could argue which team is more deserving: the best team through the entire second half of the season who won the season series handidly, or the team that played slightly better the first two periods. Well, apparently the better team through the first two, arguably three periods, won in OT. However, I would feel alot better if the game hadn't been won by either team with a fluke goal. No one can say that goal was tallent. That was luck! If it had been a clean slap shot from the blue line or a nice rebound in front of the net, it would be more respectable and easier to swallow.

I am just glad to see that the University has decided to make an investment into turning this program into a nationally competative program. Everyone should be happy about that. Obviously this program will probably never be a Ca$h Cow, at least not in the next decade or so. But turning it into another program that has the potetial to win National Championships will only be a great thing in the long run. Especially for our move to DI. The more sports we have competing for National Championships in DI, the easier it will be to sell our Athletic Program and University to potential recruits of other programs.

A reasonable Bison fan? That's refreshing to see and read. Here's to both ND schools being dominant in FCS. Down with Montana!
