  1. It's an unprofitable sport in an area of the country where it is greatly affected by weather. The long term viability of the sport just doesn't make sense up here. I want us to cut the fat and let the athletic department properly compensate staff so we can be more competitive in hiring quality talent in the major sports.
  2. Fargo has always been a football town and NDSU has always drawn well. Grand Forks is and always will be a hockey town. I don't see why this is even a discussion as it is quite obvious.
  3. Personally that is crazy, although I have a soft spot for women's soccer. I was part of the crew that started tailgating at games in 2002. We had a group of 10 to 15 people to tailgate at games, even painted our chests for the last NDSU game in that snowy november. I will admit we did outnumber the fans usually though.
  4. I get that, but that is around because of title 9. It's my opinion that women's hockey in college wouldn't exist if title 9 weren't around. I Monday not even sure if we can get rid of it, maybe a title 9 expert here can help me out.
  5. They are usually the easiest ones for a reason, because those are the ones that should go based off of revenue. They weren't part of the Big Sky, brought in very limited revenue, and had to travel a ton. Common sense states it should go.
  6. Honestly, I am shocked that everyone cares so much about this. It was two sports 99% of the fan base never even came to support. We are in a colder climate, they don't add any revenue to the school because fans don't support them, and we so we did the obvious thing and cut them. I feel terrible for the athletes and coaches that chose to come and represent UND but this was the right call. Personally, I would have ditched swimming and diving as well but I am not sure of the title 9 issue by cutting female athletes and where we stand with that right now. We simply were sponsoring too many programs and this should have been done regardless of where we are at fiscally. I am wondering how much of the so called retirement was actually our next ex presidents decision. Did he want to retire or was he told he needed to retire due to where he lead this college financially? Pure speculation on my part but the timing with everything and then bringing in a very respected ex governor to clean things up is all very interesting.
  7. TE Hunter Pinke from Wishek, ND and OL Ryan Tobin out of Wisconisin are also both in.
  8. WR Travis Toivonen from Red Wing MN and S Jake Geier from Andover MN are both in. Excited about Travis, he is a big boy at 6'3'' and 205 and lead the state of MN in receiving yards last year.
  9. He is joining Adam Gase in Miami as an Offensive Quality Control coach. Good to see him getting a start in coaching. http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2016/01/23/former-broncos-g-chris-kuper-joins-adam-gases-staff-in-miami/37428/
  10. I wonder if there is any relation to former Sioux Hockey player Brian Canady?
  11. You have never speculated on rosters in sports before.....that just isn't true. I followed up my "calling him out" by stating it sucks because he could have been a starter at guard next fall.
  12. I stated that I had no fact and it was pure speculation before I even made my statement. I didn't know him as a player, I didn't question the work ethics, or even the talent on the field. My statement was because he was a young player with no ties to the area, it was a perfectly logical thought process. These guys are not doing this as charity, they are getting scholarships and now additional funds to cover expenses to play at a public university. They are at risk of losing scholarships annually and are in the public eye. I am not saying that anyone should start gossiping but if you preface your remark by stating it is speculation and you dont downgrade the person then who cares. It is no worse than commenting on how player had a bad game, after all you guys have no problem calling out a players poor performance and they all work hard. Crap like this is the reason I no longer share inside info on here anymore, some of you are just ridiculous about it. End of rant....
  13. And I was the jerk for tossing out his name as a possibility because he wasn't from the area and was still young..... The kid had some real potential as a guard IMHO, certainly hurts from a depth perspective. Personally I thought he had a chance to start next year if he had a good off-season.
  14. Every time I saw Ben play he always stuck out as the best player on the field. I am by no means an expert in breaking down players but that is never a bad thing.
  15. Just because you feel that way doesn't mean everyone else agrees with you. If enough people post the same rumor then there must be some sort of truth that goes along with it. It's reasons like these that I no longer post info when I hear about it, you just get your head torn off by people.
  16. This is a discussion board where it is ok to post rumors and second hand information. I have no problem with them doing this as long as it is presented as that and not fact. I can't stand how some people attack posters on the board for bringing up info but not releasing names, they have every right to do this and we should be thankful they have shared what they have. I have no inside info so this is purely guessing on my part but my guess is that they are younger players who were in a reserve role and not from the area as that is what most defections are. My guess is someone like Demon Taylor or Bryce Blair, someone with no ties to the school and not regional players. Thank you to every poster who shares whatever inside info they have and are comfortable giving us, some of us appreciate it
  17. The biggest thing that I took out of this year is the growth of our QB and RB. Keaton grew up before our eyes the last 3 weeks, he was very accurate hitting the open man, was able to connect on the deep ball, and was able to limit the mistakes. I have been very hard on him the last year but the kid grew up in a big way. As for the running back situation, we have Brady and Santiago for 3 more years, enough said. We do have a few losses, but we have the depth now to where I feel comfortable replacing guys, next year can't come fast enough!
  18. I will respectfully disagree, but the fact we are debating these things at 4-1 is quite fun.
  19. Today was a poor example, the part that bothers me is that we had better QB play on the D2 level. With greater success comes greater expectations.
  20. No need to apologize, just wanted to clarify my point.
  21. I paid almost $30k for my degree because I am unatheltic, Studsrud is getting a full ride because he has talent. This team can be so good but I am not a jerk because I am calling out a player. I can't be the only that can see that our QB is holding us back.
  22. I agree, it is nice to win and maybe i am just raising my expectations based on the performance of the team. I do think though that we do need to start worrying about this soon. We can't have QB that completes only 50% of his passes and expect to do anthing in the playoffs. It was pretty obvious today that PSU didn't live up to the ranking today. Studsrud is fine for today but he won't be good enough in 3 weeks.
  23. How has Studsrud won for us? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but our QB play is holding us back. We had wide receivers open all day long and our QB couldn't go past the first read to see the play develop.
