  1. I assume you are referring to a rift between Roger and Dean that occurred last year re: K negotiations. I don't know if that had a lot to do with it. I wonder if Dean stays as World Team Coach? shep
  2. One big diff between Deano and Spurrier is that Deano is going to be an asst coach. Spurrier got the keys to the whole store and just didn't handle it well. shep
  3. I loved Tippett as a player, but I wonder if going from NHL head coach to college coach is the type of move he'd want to make. If Woog is hired, I shall return my REA tickets and NEVER attend a Sioux game while he's here. NEVER! Of course, if he was hired, he certaintly wouldn't last long. shep
  4. Sandelin must be the front runner, right? However, I recall when Rube Bjorkman resigned. There was a boatload of speculation the Sioux would sign Ned Harkness of RPI. The Herald ran this huge story about him, and by the time I got done reading it, I thought the college version of Scotty Bowman was on his way to GF. Then, at what seemed like the last minute, the guys in charge hired this asst coach, Gino Gasparini, and as they say, "the rest is history." So...let's not overlook the assistants. But, I think Sandelin maintains a nice relationship with the guys here and must be the front runner. Does he have good relations with the people at Shattuck? shep
  5. Sioux fan, You are more correct than I. It is just a "try out" and I suspect he would be considered a "walk on" if he makes it, right? The other point is that ANY player I believe, can sign with a pro team at any time between now and August which keeps open the possibility of Jones leaving I guess. shep
  6. Couple of things to consider or question. If there is NO NHL lockout, can Greene or more likely Jones still go pro? Is there a deadline to sign with a pro team? To correct the ND connection, I understand that Drew Sando is going to Walk-on this year. I don't want to revisit my Brandt rant, but IMHO Parise was the best goalie last year regardless of his lineage or little bro playing here. shep
  7. Nor to my knowledge has either one adopted that position or be challenged by it. Is this a true and accurate report of a statement either one made? shep
  8. Yeah he makes the money from the Twins but when will he spend it? By some accounts, he has more money than Steinbrenner but refuses to put it into his team. When people were taking sides on this issue, I cautioned that to cheer for Pohlad is to cheer for Old Man Potter in Its a Wonderful Life. shep
  9. Marnie G is very good at her job as are female sportscasters, Linda Cohn, Robin Roberts and others. However, the whole Monday Night Football shtick to have a pretty lady ask questions on the sidelines has lead to the inane questions presented by other pretty ladies in the stands at hockey games. Now I like looking at beautiful women as much as the next guy (unless the next guy doesn't like women for reasons that are his own) but I think the games will go on just fine without this fluff between periods or in football between plays. shep
  10. Ruff, Your points about hockey style are good, I just wonder how many people will even see it. Those teams don't exactly evoke memories of great hockey traditions. shep
  11. Btw, if you're looking for the OFFICIAL END OF PRO HOCKEY IN AMERICA look out for that matchup between traditional hockey rivals, the San Jose Sharks and the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals. I've never been to Florida, but do they watch a lot of hockey there in June? How about that San Jose area? I know it's "hotbed" but for hockey? Will a Final with these teams get TV ratings above the Little League World Series or will ABC just pull out the old Arm Wrestling Championship from Pomona in 1972? Look out. shep
  12. Don't know if this qualifies as a "recruit" but I hear that former Mr. Hockey from Grafton, Drew Sando, is going to walk-on next year. Anyone confirm that?
  13. As soon as they discovered evidence that she was taken across state lines it fell into Federal Jurisdiction for kidnapping or murder.
  14. Gotta be, "In Heaven There Is No Beer". Just a great crowd favorite though that's true for any sport that song is played at.
  15. I agree with the Roebuck quote but I suspect the chance to play for an NCAA title drives alot of women here. Glas hasn't had a shot at the title since the Gulseth years. Remember he packed the team with some very good ND players and w/o the backyard boys, we haven't been serious contenders in a long time so this is the year IMO to put up or pack up.
  16. After a shutout, I have to agree with you "They aren't going to score any less goals." But as a justification for putting ZP in, it's not worthy for you could say they could put me in the game and not score any less goals. While that is true, one must review the damage I would do to the team and not just in terms of chemistry. That said, you also need to review what type of play could be expected from a college player and in particular on the defensive side of the ice. Frankly, even with his God-given skill there really is no evidence that he is somehow a spark for this team at this time. I know you could reply with the, "What do they have to lose" but the real point is maximizing your chances to win and I just don't see that the case can be made that ZP does it in lieu of someone who is on the roster now. But, Lou and the Debbies know more than I do, so we'll see.
  17. I like the T-Wolves, think they'll finally win a series, but even around here, I don't think they have the celebrity factor that the Lakers have. The Lakers would have been a great draw here; an incredible event. It's not just because of Shaq or Koby, but it would have been great to have Phil come to his Alma Mater too.
  18. Good one! I mean, there wereSioux games this year in which ZP didn't score a point, right? That was against COLLEGE HOCKEY players not NHL'ers so to just assume he'd be the magic elixir the Debbies may be missing is a bit far-fetched. The best players on the Debbies didn't score last night, but a college kid with NO NHL experience is going to lead them to victory? I don't know. And I won't even get into the whole idea of playing the Devils system etc.
  19. I have NO IDEA who Richard Brodeur is? Sounds like the name of a guy who might work for the State Dept. Maybe he does. Anyway, he's not much of a goalie.
  20. JR whine? You certainly prove a strong understanding of hockey when you make comments like that. He came back from an injury like that in a short period of time, and with his 7th or 8th concussion no less, so this is NO whiner. What's next, you'll tell us that Richard Brodeur is a bad playoff goalie or that Tie Domi is a great goal scorer? I can't wait.
  21. Ruff, For the record, Bobby Clarke is my favorite hockey player of all time. Tony Esposito, my favorite goalie.
  22. Ruffian, No need to worry about my putting player before team, as I'm a Flyers fan, too and was quite happy when they signed JR. Yes even though Zach Parise is with their arch-rival the Debbies I am a Flyers fan. Imagine that.
  23. Ruffian Forgive my sappy sentimentality, but I just have a soft spot for JR if only because his jaw was smashed by a slapshot less than two months ago, in which he suffered his umpteenth concussion, and now he's back, playing at a high level and without any protection for the still fragile jaw. If you wanna look at what a hockey player is, look at Jeremy Roenick. For the record, if I were only a sentimentalist, I'd cheer for Dave Andreychuk who is the current player who has the most points w/o a Cup.
  24. I suspect they are weighing this question: If we indeed have the best 19 year old in the world, would playing him make us any more likely to win the Stanley Cup or would the 19 year old's inexperience cost us? I trust that organization to do the right thing. Still, I hope they lose in 4. Roenick deserves a Cup much like Bourque did a few years ago.
  25. I know this is a UND Hockey board, and as a former student I'm a big Sioux fan, but to suggest Parise got robbed is nonsensical. Lessard is a very good hockey player and as noted, lead the country in scoring THIS YEAR. If they want to give ZP a Lifetime Achievement Award or something, fine, but the Hobey goes to the best player this year. Frankly I thought ZP would win, but no one can say Lessard is not deserving. REPHRASE: No one can credibly say Lessard is not deserving.
