My guess is that there is more dialog going on between the tribes and the SBoHE behind the scenes. They do not need to, nor should they, make every step public. Once they have their ducks in a row, I am sure that we will here something.

It does appear as though it's going to go down to the wire. The only thing I've heard recently is that the AG has drafted a proposal for a resolution that they are going to ask the Spirit Lake Tribe to endorse. They took the resolution that Spirit Lake drafted and reworded it so that it's more friendly to non-tribal courts. According to news reports, the AG was going to present it to Spirit Lake during the middle of this week. I would guess that if they are going through the work of drawing up this resolution, there may some indication that Standing Rock is going to address the issue soon. If Standing Rock isn't planning on acting soon, then why draft the proposed resolution. This is all speculation on my part by the way. I wouldn't get too worried yet. KVLY news at 10:00 had a quote from Mr. Murphy stating "We are well aware of the dates" and "Something could happen by the end of the week." Not exact quotes, but you get the idea. Just need to be patient...I'm sure we will hear something, one way or the other, fairly soon. EDIT: Actually I guess these quotes were pretty much right on. I didn't realize the finals had started. I just voted by computer and by phone...the gap is narrowing it' now 54%-46% in favor of the Blackhawks. I will vote on my personal computer when I get home as well. Make sure to vote Sioux Fans!

Your reading an awful lot into this small Herald article. I still believe we will end up retiring the name. I do believe there is a glimmer of hope, but I'm nowhere near as optimistic as you seem to be. I hope I am wrong.

I was at the game when we went to Yale/Princeton...I believe it was 2002. The Yale game was quite memorable and a fun environment to watch hockey in. Princeton and Hobey Baker rink on the other hand...not so much.

Per WDAZ News at 6:00 pm tonight: The State Board of Higher Education is leaning towards granting an extension of at least a couple weeks. They plan to hold a conference call next Thursday, October 1st to decide if they will grant an extension. Should make for an interesting middle of next week...

As others have eluded to in other threads/posts, if we don't choose a nickname, one will be chosen for us by other schools/media/etc. Then we may end up with something like "Nodaks", Big Green, etc. I believe a certain poster on here kind of sums it up best when they say "Control what is yours to control."

Not a bad name...but what would we use as a logo or a mascot? I don't know that I would get excited about a UAV as a logo If we have to change the name...my vote would be for Fighting/Mighty Norse, Rough Riders, or Nokota's/Nokes. I know it's a pick six, but hopefully these three would be included...right now there is no other suggested nicknames that I have grown a liking to.

Today is the last day to vote in the quarterfinal round. UND is leading at 61%-39% so looks as though we will advance to the final four. Voting for that round begins tomorrow...Good job Sioux Fans!

WDAZ 10:00 news reported that the SBoHE is going to hold a conference call to decide if they want to extend the deadline until October 15th. They also stated that the deadline could be extended longer than October 15th if it appears as though an election on Standing Rock seemed likely. There is still a glimmer of hope...
