I don't know if they were accurate or not...on the MSNBC site there is an article that says it will close if river reaches 52 ft.

Ok, so I am not an engineer! but I have seen an episode or two of mythbusters (kinda like staying at a holiday inn express ) and I have a question for some of the really smart people that I know produce and lurk on this site. Could something like a series of giant Fresnel lens' be used to quickly melt ice jams on rivers? (I would guess there are lasers that could do the same kind of thing also??) but perhaps the use of Fresnel lens' would be cheaper, portable, and potentially less destructive to infrastructure. **not trying to be off topic--am concerned about ice jams, especially after today's events in Crookston.

  8. my guess would be the requests for UND's removal would be coming from name change supporters.
  9. I think you all may have to agree to disagree as no one seems to be making headway in changing points of view...but as long as you're having fun... here's my $.02 One of the many reasons I've come to love the game of hockey is the unwritten honor code. Where punishment for your actions is decided -not with pistols by the dawns early light- but by pugilists by the face off dots. Just as the thought of getting caught and having to face death in the name of honor helped to dissuade infractions in society of old. Fighting in hockey serves as a deterrent to those who would commit dishonorable infractions against opposing players. Instead of having an entire team gunning for the perpetrator's head, one combatant challenges him to settle things with fists. Barbaric? Well possibly, but after all inflicting pain is to be part of the punishment or there is no dissuasion. It seems this is a much more efficient and potentially less dangerous method of dealing with these conflicts. In a perfect world (although boring to be sure) the refs would catch every infraction and all punishments would be fair. Since no perfect world exists it seems that "the code" is the least barbaric way to go. It prevents 20+ guys from all seeking vigilante vengeance by any means they see fit, be they excessive (if legitimate) checks, spearing, checking from behind, slashing, etc. Instead the perpetrator is giving warning, challenged to fight like a man and face the consequences of his actions. In that fight with gloves or bare fists pain will be inflicted, but rarely will that pain be associated with the injuries that would have been on the table if the vigilante actions within the confines of the game were the rule. Since under "the code" the outcome of the fight is largely accepted as a resolution to the infraction in the player's minds, it seems to provide a speedy and fair resolution to the situation. In addition, the extra penalties that result will get some of the players, whose emotions are running high, to sit for at least 5 min if not the rest of the game, and will remove the target from the playing field. Most importantly it prevents some of the further cheap shots that would arise from either team in an ongoing retaliation spiral, and it brings teams closer together when one stands up for the honor of another! If players don't want to fight, knowing "the code" exists, they shouldn't break the rules-- no cheap shots, checking from behind, running the goalie, high sticking, etc. *** if there was more honor and respect in other aspects of life I think the world would be a better place
  10. I can't break down a game, rate players performances, provide incredible insights into the world of hockey, do mindblowing mathematical equations, etc...so making the pics is my small way of giving back to the SiouxSports community that turned me into a fanatic. So you are very welcome. That's what I put them online for. Happy Holidays!
  11. Once the players come onto the ice and the crowd is trying to cheer and listen to introductions etc(7 min out or so), the "late" crowd pouring in is disruptive to that and personally, I find it annoying. But since I can't do anything about that or the people who insist on always arriving back late after intermission (never in groups but 1 at a time), or the same ones that leave early for every intermission, or leave with a few minutes left in the game, constantly disrupting the entire row and not making an effort to be there to cheer the team, or the ones who will make a bunch of people move for them instead of going out of the row the other direction where there is no one still sitting. I will just continue to suffer it. ***Can you tell I sit on the end of a row, no offense to catholics but by the end of a game I feel like I've been to church I enjoy the Phil Collins song, but would like to see a little variety and maybe a little better flow or transition into the introductions, keep same rhythm (momentum) going instead of disrupting the energy with a different one. my $.02

  13. I know it was snowing but has hell frozen over Jones Scores!
  14. so if they run out of players do they start choosing from the opposing team's lineup, or start over, or do you have a sudden death tiebreaker of some sort (like pick any three and combined point total for that game wins)? Remember it helps to make this s**t up as you go
