One thing to note about Russo's article is that one of the key statements was... ...dump it where the goalie can't play it. The NHL has restrictions on where the goalie can play pucks. The NCAA does not. Dump-and-chase may be able to play into a more up-tempo style in the NHL given the restrictions on the goalies.

I picked up a 61" 1080p Samsung LED DLP TV last year for under $1900...the picture is amazing, but I don't see many DLP sets available now since the LCDs are coming down in price for the bigger screen sizes. When I was shopping for my TV a comparably sized "Flat Panel" TV was up around $4K - $6K. Couldn't beat the price to screen size ratio of the DLP, and the picture quality (blacks, colors) is fantastic. I sacrifice a little bit in viewing angle, but it's stellar for watching Sioux hockey on the FTA dish!! Blu-Ray on the PS3 is top-notch. The point about HDTV being "force-fed" to the public is a bit much. Nobody is forcing anyone to go HDTV, just digital, and apparently that wasn't force-fed well enough because they still had to push the transition back to this past June.

The key statement here is that THE MARKET DETERMINES PRICE. So, when a company is hit with another tax or increased cost that reduces their profit margin, the only way to continue to make that profit is to get rid of variable costs, the largest component of which is usually labor. I guess the silver lining is that even if prices rise you won't have to worry about it if/when you have no income to buy things with, right?

Question - Does the "context" of the game only consist of when the puck is in play or does it include the time after the whistle? Or, is it defined by the rule book? How do you define the "context" of the game?

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, because Bemidji plays a speed game. Maybe they aren't a "real" uptempo team? Anyway, I think yesterday's game was a result of Miami having almost two weeks to game plan for BSU's speed and then having the talent & size to execute that game plan. It seemed like whenever BSU attempted to get it deep, Miami was on the puck sooner and stronger and was able to get the puck back up ice and out of the zone. Miami had ample tape to watch from the regional and was obviously prepared.

It's funny you can say "Ho-Hum, win a draw and it doesn't matter," but when a particular set of D-men are on the ice for 5 of 6 goals I think there's a bit of a negative trend there that could have been addressed and actually had an impact on the game.

The Olympic rink fad was fine when the NCAA was seen as a breeding ground for Olympians. Now, pros play in the Olympics and NCAA hockey is becoming more of a breeding ground for NHL players, so it makes sense to have NHL sized rinks. ...back on topic.
