  1. Are we really this slow or was there a hell of a party in Walsh hall last night???
  2. Can we install flashing lights on the yard markers that light up on third down that remind us we need more than 4 yards in 3rd and 6. This should not be that complicated. Run the damn route past the 1st down mark and pass it there. How many times do we need to see 3rd and long followed by a pass 3 yards short of a first down- or in the backfield…. It’s really not that complicated…
  3. We need some help as a program on stupid penalties. And….we will be lucky to win two more games this year unless we figure out what an offense is…
  4. Hard to recruit downfield receivers to run 2 yard routes all game long….
  5. SD has a QB that actually has a progression and finds a second receiver. Does make a difference.
  6. And once again on third down, we throw a pass that gets us 2 yards short of the marker. What a surprise….
  7. In this one despite looking awful on offense. Stop dancing with players grabbing their shoulderpads and clean up tackling and we will be right in this. Absolutely have to find an offense somewhere though. If we dont’ always make it 5 yards longer every series, it would make life a little easier. Is it legal to give shock collars controlled by the quarterback???
  8. With any pressure, Tommy settles for a check down early with no chance to complete a third and long. Needs to learn to extend play and look beyond 2 yards when we need 6 to 10 yards to the marker….
  9. Tommy threw a great catchable ball that should have been caught - not in a position to be intercepted. Great throw. Then we take a sack to take us out of field goal position. Can’t seem to get out of our own way….
  10. Imagine that. Look at a pass beyond the line of scrimmage and we are wide open over and over. Good job Tommy. Hopefully this will be a trend. Will make Otis job way easier if we can stretch the field and not allow 9 defenders sitting on the line of scrimmage waiting for the run or the pass to the flats…
  11. Sure, until they made adjustments and took that away. We didn’t counter those adjustments. Intermediate for us is about 5 yards. We do well with that, but credit to USU’s coordinator who clearly took that away after the 1st quarter. Slants worked well, other than leading to 2 picks. I just think we are going to see a lot of stacked boxes by anyone watching this film unless we prove we can make a play more than 10 yards downfield. Teams will dare us to beat them deep, choosing instead to cover the short routes and Otis. Having at least a threat of going longer than 10 to 15 yards backs the defense up a bit so they can’t cheat continually and clog the box up front. Certainly, the announcers (who probably are not big UND fans familiar with our game plan) recognized it as well, commenting on it continually in the second half. I don’t think it is a secret. USU is FBS and probably more skilled at most positions. The sky is not falling by any means. I have every belief we will be a good team this year. We do have some learning to do and I hope we can make some adjustments so that other teams don’t do what USU did last night and take away our strength without an answer. Tommy is a great possession passer - hopefully a deep threat emerges as the season goes on. Should be a rout next week and tailgating begins. Can’t wait!!!
  12. The good news is that we aren’t likely to see another offense like Utah State’s in FCS. We aren’t well suited to defend a spread no-huddle offense with a lot of receiving weapons and a coach who is willing to trust his offense on 4th down virtually every time, no matter where its at. We will need to tackle better as well, but the defense was gassed from spending the bulk of 3 quarters on the field with a team that wastes little time between plays and spreads the field very well. They are an impressive offensive team. They are not as good defensively, but they made adjustments and we didn’t. Plain and simple. We had a great offensive first quarter, but most of those came on short yardage patterns with good yards after catch. Move everyone up in the second quarter and dare us to go over the top and those are no longer open - and there is no running room for Otis,. To me, that was the story of the offense.
  13. Bison are going to stack the box, key on Otis, and dare us to beat them deep. So will everyone else that watches film on this game. Not sure I agree that the O-line got worn down. They didn’t spend a lot of time on the turf in the last half. Lot of time to rest after 3 and outs.
  14. Because we don’t do that and haven’t done that since Mussman was here. We do a good job in the possession passing game, but adjustments of stacking the box and daring us to connect long are going to kill us unless we find a way to have a threat at least 15 to 20 yards downfield once in a while…
  15. Utah State is a very good team. I’m not disappointed that we are losing to a good FBS team. I am more than a little nervous that every MVFC team is going to look at film and put 10 guys in the box, daring us to throw longer than 5 yards - which we haven’t shown we can or are even willing to do, other than in desperation situations.
  16. They have too many weapons in a wide open offense. We have had no pressure on the quarterback and he is just picking us apart. On offense, we have to be willing to look more than 5 yards downfield. 3rd and 13 and 3rd and 15 and we throw to 3 and 4 yard routes. Need to at least try to get a 1st down. They are locking down the line of scrimmage because they know we won’t look deep - ever.
  17. We went back to the offense of the first part of the year. Hold the ball too long. No movement to the weak side. They overplayed the outside and dared us to take it to the rack and we continued to play perimeter ball at the point with no effort to penetrate and get it weak side. You shoot poorly when there is poor movement to get good open looks and that is where we were at. Need to go back to the ball movement we had against USD and the second night of NDSU. Obviously, nobody wants to repeat the first NDSU game and we looked a lot closer to that tonight. We are young and that showed, but i would like to see Sather make adjustments to get some movement offensively. We were way too slow and stagnant, standing around on offense and holding the ball too long making defense easy. Panoam did a good job moving the ball up the floor in transition but he and Ethan were both awful in the half court game. Nero should have been in the game way more than he was. He at least gets penetration without all of the turnovers. Hopefully we build with the youth for next year and find some consistency. We showed glimpses this year and hope we can be a contender next year, but have to get more consistent movement out of our offense.
  18. Mallory has been a great part of the program and like to give her a shot but she proved over and over she is not ready for the head coach position. Was hoping that a Roebuck player would see adjustments needed on the fly but that has definitely not happened. Teams zone us and we still run a man offense with no passing to create open looks. Our weak side was nonexistent all year long. Poor shooting usually follows poor shot selection. We don’t move the ball quick enough to get good looks. At the end of the bison game, we needed a play to tie and we left our time out on the board rather than set up a plan for getting a 3 to tie. We had 15 turnovers in the first half against South Dakota throwing inside against a d that dared us to shoot outside. We called one time out the first half. The 4 time outs saved don’t matter when you are down 25 to a good team. Game over. We drive but don’t see the player wide open on the weak side when defense rotates. We continually get beat defensively not rotating to the weak side block. Again no adjustment. Difference between assistant and head coach is you have to see what is happening and make those decisions in real time. That did not happen this year. Hope Mallory will learn and make a great coach someday. She was clearly not ready to do that this year...
  19. Clearly need depth, but also need guys that want to make something happen. Brown drove once and scored but never even attempted it again. Not hard to shut down a single option offense. Defensively we must know they are going to throw up 3s. Cant give 6 feet of space to let them spot up time and time again...
  20. Our girls, particularly the freshman, have no idea how to stop vertical penetration. We play matador defense which, assuming we get help side, leaves someone else wide open without good rotation. There is a reason we give up nearly the century mark every game on defense. This has been an atrocious problem for at least the last 4 years. There was a game last year where I was praying for a switch to zone after watching us give up what seemed like 20 uncontested layups to Idaho. We apparently don’t coach or teach defensive skills to stop a drive at all. Offensively, we can look good in transition at times. Too many turnovers but that happens with a running offense. The problem is we have no half court offense at all. Our entire offense before was give it to Lexi Klabo and see what she can do against a double or triple team. She was incredible but got no help from our offensive scheme. Anyone watching film this year overplays us badly to the outside which effects our 3 point shooting. What hurts is we don’t adjust to what everyone is doing to us. No back door cuts, we never take the base line when it is wide open - NDSU’s thugs down low were physical but neither fast nor athletic. We should have had a field day forcing them to rotate but we continue to just pass the perimeter game after game. I think there is talent there but the system needs serious help before success is going to find them. Hard to watch right now...
  21. As a bit of good news, I do believe that recruiting quarterbacks and receivers will be easier under Danny’s offensive scheme. What great receiving recruit is salivating at going to a program whose head coach continually talks about a four yards and a cloud of dust. There is a reason why we lost Kenny Golladay. Hopefully that will be better in the future and Schuster does have the ability to look downfield as evidenced by the one game he got to show us what he can do. Our big receivers have a place. Unfortunately we had an entire receiving corps of clones that all fit that description and used no speedsters to stretch the field with separation. Of course, that would have required kett to throw longer than 5 yards as well. Running game would have been helped with any sort of vertical threat and a qb that looked more than 5 yards downfield. That should be much better next year with Schuster. Get Izzy and McKinney healthy with maag and that could be an interesting receiving corps. The trenches definitely need to be bigger and more physical to do well in the mvfc. Hopefully that will be a focus in the offseason. We need consistency on d. The Davis and Montana state games we showed glimpses of brilliance when we hit, tackled, and pursued like und d of old, but that was short lived and unfortunately not a consistent effort in every game. Hopefully will improve next year... we weren’t always pretty but did show we could have Played with everyone other than the bison, who were just clearly better. No reason to think we can’t be even better next year despite the mvfc schedule. Here is hoping for improvement in a number of areas and a better season next year.

  23. No need for negativity at this point. We are in the playoffs which means all records are 0-0 at this point. Congratulations Bubba and the boys. This is what we have wanted the last several years. Consistency has not always been there but we have shown we can play with some of the better teams in The country. We may be one of those underdogs you don’t want to play - at times we can look great. That is what we need for playoffs and will be excited to make that happen!!!

Anyone not know we were going to run 3 times for no gain instead of trying to score when we NEED a statement win????
