  1. Grabbing for the ball instead of tackling is clearly not working...
  2. Need serious tackling drills this week. Bison are very talented but we are making them look a lot better with 3 and 4 missed tackles a play....
  3. Zimmerman has always been a better down field threat. Takes a few more chances than Ket, but way more explosive. I expect to open it up this half...
  4. Agreed. Men’s basketball is definitely more fun to watch right now than women’s but there is no reason with effort we shouldn’t be filling a field house that is half the size of Hyslop, especially for rival games. A full house with active crowd will go a long way towards bringing students back but it will take an effort on the coaches part to bring fans back. Would love to see a group of regulars that go to the summit tournament too to have a UND presence there also. Used to be a boat to do the SD road trips when they were Friday and Saturday. That would help also but don’t know if that is possible in the D1 era...
  5. For background, we go to both men’s and women’s basketball and have for over 25 years, including going to national tournaments. Part of the fan base problem is having coaches that make efforts to grow the program. That doesn’t happen in UND basketball. Glas was not a stellar coach but he was a good ambassador for the program and active in the surrounding community. At that time, there were 3 times as many fans at games than now, despite now having supposedly higher level basketball. Football for most of the last several years has been a bit of a dumpster fire and yet Bubba has gone out of his way to grow the program and increase attendance. It may not last without improvement but attendance has been better. Nobody knows who Jones is.... there is no outside school and community relations going on that I can see. Couple that with an inability to coach to win a close game and/or close out a game. I realize we just won by 1 but tried to throw away a 10 point lead but for WIU making a couple of colossal mistakes to save us from ourselves. That won’t change until we see a coaching change. We are destined for mediocrity and no fan base. As to women’s, after 25 years, even I am having to talk myself into going to watch that mess... and I never thought I would say that. Changes clearly need to be made....
  6. At the outset, I don’t believe Jones is a terrible coach and I do believe we have brought in some real talent recruiting, at least at the guard positions. What separates good coaches from marginal coaches is the ability to recognize and make adjustments and to adapt your game to the skills of your players. That does not happen with Jones. We still stubbornly stick to an offense with no movement designed for slashing guards to create any offense - except that is not who we have any more. We have better outside shooters this year for a change but no offense designed to get them a look in space. Our whole offensive scheme appears to be whatever Seales and Stewart can create. When they are doubled, like at Ndsu, they shoot 25 percent on 26 shots while the rest of the team stands around and watches. At the end of the game, when we needed two points to tie and we had the ball, the best we could come up with Out of a time out was to have Stewart dribble the clock down to eight seconds, the drive get stopped, and take a step back three after shooting about 25% for the rest of the game. No other movement and no other options. It’s why we lose every close game we are in. Don’t have a go to closer and don’t have a plan that will finish. With SD, We got burnt a dozen times on switches where our guards ended up defending a four or five player down low with either a foul or a bucket. Again, no adjustments made. If we are content with a middle of the conference program with occasional bursts of success in front 1000-1500 fans (the majority of season ticket holders whom are 65 or older), then Jones is our guy. He has been here 12 years and nobody in the region knows who he is, if he weren't the tallest guy in the room. I for one would like to see a targeted effort to grow the program, promote attendance and make UND basketball relevant again. I just don’t see that with Jones....
  7. Hope I am wrong but a 222 yard offensive output against a 4 win team is not likely to impress the playoff gurus.
  8. 222 yards of total offense for UND. That says it all...
  9. If Rudolph is here next year, there will be less than the 4000 people here today. Apparently it is in his an manual that it is necessary to stare at your primary receiver from the huddle to the pass. As the qb coach, every qb we have has regressed in their abilities throughout the year.... and we are incapable of thinking of a change - in any facet of our offense. Needed a statement here. We made one, all right....
  10. Defense looked great until late - can only handle so many 3 and outs on offense.... not all game long. Take out Santiago’s awesome 70 yard run and we had 150 yards of total offense. Starting receivers are slow and can’t separate. 40 percent passing and we stretched the field for a whopping 3 yards per catch. We don’t make adjustments in personnel or schemes. That offensive efficiency and creativity won’t get it done at any level. Defense was very encouraging but my hope is we were holding something back on offense or we are in for a long year. Special teams and kicking game??? Can’t even describe... Defense will be fine. Offensive personnel should be okay, but our schemes and execution have to improve by next week. Special teams need a miracle... optimistic but a long way to go...
  11. 3rd and 11 to stay in the game. Let’s run it for no gain. Does Rudolph ever want to win?????
  12. 2-13 3rd down conversions. Time to change that. Come on Zimmerman!!!!
  13. Our fan group is starting a lottery on selecting UND offensive plays before they happen. Not working because EVERYBODY is correctly predicting the play before it happens. Must be tough to be an opposing defensive coordinator when you know every play before it happens. Rudolph has got to go....,
  14. 3rf and 1. Johanneson on the sidelines. Seriously. Did Rudolph not learn anything from last week????
  15. 3rd and goal at the 2 with Brady and Johanneson and we run that stupid sweep that hasn't worked all year. Seriously????
  16. With Reyes gone, we hardly have an upperclassmen left on defense. Will get better but will take time. Just too inexperienced and too small. Offensively it's nothing different than we always see and will continue to see under Rudolph. We just don't have the defense right now to bail him out for every three and out throughout the first half. 47 yards of offense until 4 minutes left in the first half doesn't help an injury decimated defense.
  17. ....and 0-4 on 4th downs, although that includes one with seconds left in the game
  18. When the entire UND cheering section is naming our play before it happens, it is not a stretch to assume the opposing defensive coordinator is doing the same. Given that Santiago is running into 9 in the box on virtually every run, it is not an accident. The d is struggling with injuries and youth, but the offense has an experienced line, a 4th year starting qb, 3 talented backs (two of whom we don't really use other than on obvious short yardage plays with 10 in the box), and a much improved receiving corps. A learning curve is expected on defense and they will improve with experience. Puzzled where we go on offense without a different strategy.
