Any team is better with players who have a deep desire to play for a program. Losing Miller and Matteau hurts, but what is somewhat underrated is the effect of a player like LaDue or Kristo who are lifelong fans and wish to be a part of the program. These hurt, but we will continue to be a perennial contender. I would mention that last years senior class was not particularly hearlded but they did OK.
I would just suggest 1 thing to the sky is falling crowd. Potentially the best 2 players in their first full year of college hockey in 2012-2013 are Jordan Schmaltz and Rocco Grimaldi...
Blood was on the ice for half the game and those clears at the end were a little bit of a fluke getting deflected. I have no idea how many times his positioning and skating kept CC of their breakouts.
As brutal as we have been (and in fairness we lost a few games outplaying the competition); if we take care of business against AA we will be 500 in the WCHA and above 500 on the season. sweep the EZAC and we are right back in auto bid territory...
Mattson, Simpson, and Blood were great this weekend. Mario, well... not only was his play ineffective, but took 3 penalties at bad times. I'd have to see the face off stats, but looked like he was so so there as well.
Just for the record I disapprove of anyone playing at Minnesota...
With regards to the conspiracy theory de jour, UND's program is far too advanced to fall for that stupid crap. I suspect that it has more to do with the fact that Paul has been outstanding as a USHL Rookie. By coincidence I ran into Paul's family today. I suggested that they not read threads like this for the next 10 years or so.
You know how our stats would look much better, start the year playing 6 of 8 Sacred Heart, Alaska Anchorage, and Vermont... And win 2 while being severely outplayed in Duluth...
Don't know if anyone posted this, but at one point Jared Rutledge was said to be considering UND. He went to the ugly helmets. I could see how it might be hard to get a second keeper with Zane coming in.
The whole St. Clair thing stinks of mismanagement at UND or the NCAA, honestly probably UND. This is a kid that had years in juniors. The NCAA or UND had plenty of time to make sure that his academics were in order. It is not as if he was a 17 year old being rushed to graduate a year early. There were years check and recheck. I doubt he is a dumb kid as he was initially going to CC.
