What’s the latest on the Aldi’s coming to GF?

I can agree MSA population does definitely give you a clearer understanding. GF MSA is essentially the same as 40 years ago and Fargo MSA has essentially doubled. WOW

Many more college kids available to be retained? I don’t think that’s the issue. GF/EGF has roughly 20k college kids each year...I think that’s plenty. It’s not the number of kids to retain, it’s the number of opportunities available to retain them. Grand forks is slacking for long term salary career type options.

Exactly! if you look back 20-30 years the 2 towns were extremely comparable in size. The flood was a big hit of course, but overall the poor long term leadership played the biggest role by far in Gf falling so far behind. The “Closer to the cities” or “civilization”comment is mostly dumb to me. Canadians love to come to the US, even when the FX is unfavorable. There is a metro area of almost a million people (larger than all of ND) just across the border that used to flock to gf in giant armies. Now (pre-covid) they bypass gf for Fargo because everythings out of business in Gf.

I saw some of the indoor activities plans and ideas from the mayor. Hopefully a few of those get executed. Lots of smaller projects like that add up overall, but a few big moves need to happen soon IMO. Hillsboro had the same % growth as GF, so whatever has been happening in the recent past isn’t working anymore.

ND grows by an outstanding 107,000 people in a short 10 years which is about 16%...wow! 2010-2020 But somehow, of those 107,000 new citizens, only a measly 800 were counted from the state’s 3rd largest city?! Ouch Yes, absolutely the oil boom played a major factor out west, but man alive...only averaging a positive 80 people per year out of 60k in the state wide booming decade?! Side note- You’ve got to give it to those western communities for developing at warp speed to help aid in retaining citizens after the boom cooled. IMO- GF only getting 2.0% growth in the hub of the NE quarter of ND during this booming decade makes it almost seem like leadership would’ve had to purposely make an effort to suppress the growth given everything happening state-wide. What gives? The NE primarily suffered all together especially compared to the other 3 regions. Did it suffer because the hub failed, or did the hub fail because of the impacts of the region failing. Poor ag years? Fargo, Bis and Minot success overshadow and stunting GF growth? The West boomed for obvious reasons, but the SE boomed by blazing their own successes. Did the huge SE successes overshadow the NE so badly that it’s completely stunted it? New businesses and talent are continuing to chose Fargo and Bis, adding to the momentum just exacerbating the issue. Hopefully the new GF leadership capitalizes on the niches of the region, takes some risks to attract some attention and turns things around to catch back up before Minnie Minneapolis sucks the life out of Forks even further. I like seeing all the downtown development. Great start for sure. Now they need to land some big businesses looking to relocate out of IL, MN, NY and CA. Warm bodies to fill roles will limit all of ND currently but hopefully that changes soon!

Anyone else feel that shift back to the normal pushover und football we thought we broke away from? Got spanked by the rival, have a few new key injuries, moral fell hard, and now losing a needed game off the schedule. 5-2 with a loss to 1-4 YSU or misery state would put them on the fence for even making the playoffs.

Youngstown is hot and IL state is no sluff...I’m a little worried this moral killer could have und losing their last 3/4 games and missing the playoffs all together

Glad they’ve figured out how to put games away and how to come away with wins in these close games. I’d like to see better QB play but overall everyone seems stout. Important to remember this easily could’ve been a 35-10 or at least 28-10 game if they clean up those Deep turnovers. exciting team to watch. I know I’ll enjoy watching other games this weekend a lot more knowing UND already took care of business! Go misery state!
