Man, I can't wait to trade games with DU, UMD, and the Cloud for Penn St, Ohio State, and Mich State...that way we can end up just like Minnesota; having a half full barn during the home conference schedule. ;)

The way I look at it, I'd take Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin >>> DU, UMD, St. Cloud -- the rest in both conferences would be comparable from a "hype" standpoint. Like others have said, if it makes sense financially and there is an offer, I'd hope UND would take it.

Good points on all. I just think putting Jost and Boeser back together could spark Brock. I also definitely see that having these two and Gersh together creates a lack of depth, for sure. That being said, I still say we give it a shot.

    This is how I'd go:

    Gersh Jost Boeser
    Pogo Gardner JJ
    Yon Bowen Gornall
    Smith Simo Olson

Switch out Simo and Olson for Hoff and Wilkie and I really like it.

I personally want to take the pressure off of Gardner and Pogo to score.  I think they would do well to just focus on hard-nosed hockey in a third line assignment.  I want to break up lines- even one's that have been working...I hypothesize that some of the success of the Bowen line has been the match-ups they've been given.

Problem is in all reality, Pogo and Gardner are the 4th and 5th option for scoring on this team. Need them to step up.

I think a lot of people were shocked at how many UND fans were at Madison Square Gardens.  This was all planned before that.

That's fair and is basically what the UND officials, I mean Schlossman wrote.

I just hope they truly exhausted all options on gaging fan interest before they made the call. It's over and I guess I don't know what I'd expect them to say. I'm sure there is some anger internally (duh) about this, but it's over.

  5. I truly believe this week off is going to change the trajectory of the season and I couldn't be more optimistic. UND was in a funk like I haven't seen in a long time in the last 6. Nothing was going in for them, nothing. On the other end, unlucky / fluke goals by the other team. They get to rest up, get Jost back, I think this team is going on a run. Like others have said, I think this team is just as talented as anyone else. I like them in any game, just got to get to Fargo!

    Think they sweep this weekend.

    Why UND Picked Orleans Arena

    http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=105140

I couldn't tell if this was written by Schlossman or the UND officials who made the decision. It reads like someone who is defending why they made a decision (that was wrong) to their boss.

"At this time, officials didn’t have a lot of things to reference when guessing potential attendance."

I get this and hindsight is 20/20, but to me it comes down to did they do everything they could to try to gage interest. This includes reaching out to Championship Club members, ect.

"They weren’t sure with T-Mobile. In the end, they have acknowledged that they feel bad that there are some fans who wanted to attend but won’t be able to. But they are excited about the event being a slam dunk."

I guess my reaction would be a little different if I was responsible for leaving $500K on the table, but that's me.

  7. Looks like a nice pickup, 6G 12A in 47 games as a 16 year old rookie in the AJHL. Nice size at 6'1" 180 already, one of the youngest kids in the league. 5th round WHL draft pick. Could make the jump in '18 as a true freshman.

Without Brock Boeser, we don't win those 2 games at W. Michigan last year (and natty #8).  I expect a good weekend for him and the boys at Western after a timely week of rest.

This is stuff I should just leave alone, but what are you even talking about with your first sentence? People discuss what's going on with Boeser, why he isn't performing like last year and you write like people want him off the team or wish he never came here. I don't think anyone would disagree with you on that first sentence, really taking a stand.

No.  The hosts were wondering why Boeser hasnt been doing well.  They were inquiring how boeser's skating is, why he hasnt been scoring on the PP.  He did note that the plan was that Boeser is leaving after the year.  Long story short, they wanted to know why Boeser has been underachieving so much this year.

I'll have to check out the interview, they are asking questions that I've been wondering as well!

  10. I wouldn't bet on it, but I wonder if the powers at be are taking a look at a switch? I don't know what kind of penalties there'd be, or how the contract was written with the Orleans arena, but I'd be disappointed if they weren't at least looking into it. The way I look at it, this is still 20 months away, reassigning tickets would be a hassle, but could easily be done for everyone currently with a ticket.

They sold 8,000 tickets before it was even on sale to the general public. The potential buyers are any Non-Champions Club UND fan as well as the entire Gopher fan base. Without a doubt you have 5,000 easily in that group ($500,000), but each 1,000 added to that list is an extra $100,000 of pure profit.

They have time to fix this, I hope they can.

Edit: The more I think about this, the more I think that they have to be looking into it. There's no reason not to. We aren't talking about potential revenue anymore. Them not knowing if 8,000 would show up (Orleans Arena perfect fit) or 9,000 total (where the extra costs wouldn't make the T-Mobile arena a good fit). This is as close to a guarantee as you can get that like I put above, you'd get an extra 4 or 5K people. Probably more than that, but there's no risk in the under to that.

UND at #10 as of this morning

Union and Cornell play pretty average to poor teams tonight, with wins will jump UND. I expect UND to be #12 going into next weekends games. The bye week still game a great time given the injuries / how UND was playing, but in the short term, doesn't help them in the PWR. Good news is they still control their own destiny down the stretch.

  12. Mismash has been on a tear lately, 10 points in his last 5 games (7G 3A). Takes over the team lead in points with 37 points, also leads with 21 goals (2nd most is 14). Wouldn't be surprised if he keeps this up if he sneaks into the 1st round.

  13. I'd be interested to see what they actually did to come up with the decision that the T-Mobile center wasn't feasible. I mean when you can sell out the Orleans with only tickets sold to the Champions club, I would think that would be a hint that you'd probably sell a few more.

I get they can't afford to lose money, but they also can't afford leaving a potential million dollars of ticket sales on the table (10,000 more seats at T-Mobile). They didn't do enough research obviously, because they were flat out wrong having it at the Orleans.

I'm amused by the people who are unwilling to risk a $135 Champions Club membership, all while ridiculing the athletic department for refusing to gamble with hundreds of thousands of dollars when universities across the state are facing budget cuts and potential hiring freezes. If you're willing to spend thousands of dollars for a Vegas trip, why didn't you budget an extra $135? And the university is supposed to take financial advice from you?!?!?!

Lets make sure we are all on the same page. We can all agree that the Champions Club allotment, which was basically every seat not given to the schools, was sold out, correct? This has nothing to do with risking to be in Champions Club, you know that there were only so many seats available, right?

There were 11,348 people at the game at MSG.  At least 1,000 of those are tickets that aren't sold because of giveaways, business agreements with MSG, etc.  Let's be generous and say 9,000 of the slightly more than 10,000 purchased tickets at the game were UND fans.  Does 9,000 people in MSG make the Vegas game a sellout?  You can guess or assume, but it's a big risk for UND to just assume.  Especially in this budget climate.

What does the crowd for MSG have to do with the one in Vegas? This isn't just hindsight, why would anyone think that?

They could use more Champions Club support so don't make that argument.  $135 for the season and you would have received $20 off each ticket in presale...thus only being "out" $90....but then again you wouldn't be "out" if you're making the school some money.

What are you talking about? What does the Champions Club have to do with what I put?
