What is one to take away from this? NDSU has more athletic money (and or externally) than UND (and or less expenses)?

Definitely less expenses (probably considerably) when you consider they offer less sports and would spend less on travel with the sports they offer.

With 30 games under their belt, you think this team is "better offensively" than what they have shown?  How much more evidence do you need to believe that UND obviously has problems scoring goals?

There's no denying they have problems scoring goals. I just can't believe (I guess to answer your question 3 more weeks if things keep going how they have), that they can't turn things around. They have the talent to average more than 2 goals a game. Need the big guns (looking at you Boeser) to step up.

No I didn't mention the Univerity directly.  Example last year I would go to Choice Fitness to workout.  At the same time UND was playing a tennis match.  No one was there except the Student Athletes.  They would play all the matches at the sametime and an hour later it was done.  The other team would leave.  What a waste of money.  No benifit to the university.  At least with Womens hockey fan's both student and non-students go to the games.

So, should the only factor to take into account be attendance?

    This is insane.

How many Grand Forks girls play on boys teams?  Since the twins played on boys teams at youth, there has been a spike in GF girls playing on youth teams.

Since GF has youth girls teams, my guess on girls playing on boys teams over the age of 10U would be 0.

If there are enough upsets in other 1-bid conference tournaments, the BSC winner could certainly move up.

Yep and there's a lot of one bid leagues.

Edit: This is based on current projections, but regardless, there are a lot of 1 bid leagues.

Folks, before we indulge deeply into play-in game vs whatever-seed discussions we should see if Jones and his squad can finish the regular season and BSC tourney without choking. Weber will be tough to beat in the BSC tourney.

Either they do or they don't, doesn't hurt to discuss what if scenarios.

I'd be much more worried about playing Eastern than I would Weber. It's basketball, either could easily beat UND in the tournament, but if I would want to avoid one team, it'd be Eastern.

Either we are a hockey town or just a Sioux Men's hockey town.  They need a new coach.  Do that and start winning the fan's will come.

Women's hockey is a good alternative to people that can't afford tickets to the men's game.

The whole student "athlete opportunities" does nothing for me.  If no one is willing to watch them play than big deal.

Women'shockey generates more fan interest then Tennis, Golf, Softball, Soccer and Swimming and Diving.  Look there before cutiing Women's Hockey.

I really, really hope you're trolling.

  8. Kennedy coming out and giving the number ($1.3 million) and saying everything is on the table, I actually think for once that UND will make the logical, completely obvious decision and cut Women's hockey. I don't know how it's even debatable when you lay everything on the table.

  9. Can anybody answer how the play-in teams are picked? I assumed based on their RPI compared to the rest of the 16 seeds. If you look at the ESPN bracket and the CBSSports bracket, that is not the case. UND for example is not in the play-in game and only a 16 seed in the CBSSports bracket (although has an RPI higher than teams in the play-in game). In the ESPN bracket, same thing, just different teams.

The play in game is a joke. I wish they would have kept the tournament at 64. A team can win a conference tournament and celebrate they are going to the dance only to possibly lose in a playin game, and watch March Madness from home. Play in games should be for non conference winners only. Let the cry babies at the P5 schools play in the playin games. They are the ones who want more teams in the tournament.

    Couldn't agree more.

The Big Sky tournament winner gets a play-in game?

This is assuming that the team that wins the regular season also wins the conference tournament. Right now UND would be playing in the play-in game with their RPI, but if they win the Big Sky tournament and there's upsets in some of the other mid-major conferences, that can change.

  12. Went through the RPI's of all 15 & 16 seeds (Per ESPN)

    15

    CSU Bakersfield - 84

    FGC - 86

    NDSU - 100

    Furham - 104

    16

    UC Irvine - 156

    NC Central - 196

    16 (Play in)

    Texas Southern - 127

    Mount St Marys - 157

    New Orleans - 167

    UND - 171

Any idea why Texas Southern would be playing in one of the 2 play-in games and NC Central, which has the worst RPI, wouldn't? Regardless, UND has to keep winning and hope for upsets in other conference tournaments.

  13. No inside information, but trying to put myself in his shoes, I think how this season ends up may play a small part in his decision. If the team doesn't not only accomplish it's goal, but falls way short (i.e. no playoffs), for me that would leave a very sour taste in my mouth. You don't want that to be part of your legacy (I know it's not his fault), but could be extra motivation to come back for another year.

I think it ultimately comes down to are you going to actually play in the NHL most of the year. If yes, it's tough to turn that opportunity down and I wouldn't blame him for signing.

BC and Lowell do home and home Thursday and Friday.
    USAFA hosts Sacred Heart
Penn State is at Michigan State
    Ohio State hosts Michigan
    Wisconsin is at Minnesota
    Cornell hosts RPI
    Notre Dame is at BU
    Providence is at UMass
    Vermont hosts Merrimack
    SCSU is at DU
    Omaha is at UND

The teams in bold is who we should cheer for, correct?

For UND, like you said, win 3 or 4 and your first round playoff matchup and most likely 1 of 2 in Minneapolis.

You said exactly what I've been thinking about Pogo.  I thought he could be a 20 goal scorer this year.

If Jost stays he is the captain.  If not he will make his NHL debut next year with what the avs have.

Poganski is kind of this years team in a nutshell. I too thought he'd be a monster this year. This years team doesn't have a talent problem, it has an underachieving problem from the star players. Starting this year, I thought you had 3 forwards who I'd called established college hockey forwards in Boeser, Poganski and Gardner. Never in my wildest nightmares would I ever think that all 3 would not only improve (even slightly), but really regress. It's stunning the years those 3 have had.

  16. 16 hours ago, yzerman19 said:

I am just sick thinking about next year- no Jost (why would he stay), no Boeser (Vancouver is going to want him developing with them or in their system), no Pogo (he'll be in the AHL), no Pooly (he could be in the Peg), Gage (likely in the Coast)...this could get ugly.

In all reality, what players on this years team would be considered really big loses? (1) Jost (2) Gersich (3) Poolman (4) Cam --- I'm trying not to pile on Boeser, but we're talking about a guy that has 11 goals and basically hasn't scored for the past 3 months. Poganski doesn't even have 10 goals this season. Gage has struggled this year, shouldn't be hard to replace.

If they only lose Boeser, T. Poolman, Ausmus, Poganski, I really like them next year. A lot depends on Jost, Gersich and Cam. After what I'd consider a down year with freshman forwards, UND brings in a nice group of 3 Freshman next year.

  17. This team still controls its own destiny. There is no room for error anymore and the playoffs start this weekend. They need to have the lose and you're done mentality. I may be delusional, but I still like this teams chances this year. Win on Friday night and lets go from there. I keep saying it after every weekend, but puck luck, whatever you call it, this team is better offensively than they've shown.

So what does she want?  Get every student at UND to come to the Ralph and have Kennedy up there with a giant chalkboard and have people yell out their ideas for how they think UND should handle the budge cuts and then somehow have everyone agree on a plan?!!

    This made me laugh.

It's embarrassing, I couldn't imagine how unbelievably frustrating it would be to be Kennedy.

Or, just maybe, Brad's beef with Kennedy has to do with the fact that Kennedy made coaches and athletes publicly beg for their respective sport to be saved (undoubtedly a humiliating process), said "all is good, everyone is saved, this will never happen again during my time here" and now we get the "Just kidding, we actually have to cut $1.3 million, so no one is safe".  If that doesn't give you reason to have a beef with Kennedy, then I don't know what does.  It's douchebaggery at it's finest.  Need to make budget cuts?  I get that.  But find a way that doesn't absolutely humiliate your student athletes and put them and coaches through a nightmare rollercoaster of emotions.

<Insert Sicatoka's response> Not all on Kennedy, but I get it.

I don't think you'll find a single person that disagree w/ your take on the begging publicly for their sports. That was awful and should have never happened.

I'm sticking with my theory that it has more to do with this causing Anti-Women's hockey sentiment. Could be wrong, but have really been rubbed the wrong way for the past while by him.
