  1. Here's my problem, I'm not saying they should go 50/50 against power conference teams, but you'd think once in program history they could pull one out. Jones could coach for 100 years and they'd never win one.

Another semifinal exit in the Big Sky tourney and an RPI in the 200s, sound good?

Those numbers are a couple years old now.  $185k isn't terribly low (like we were), but it's still on the lower end of FCS HC salaries.  Nielson at USD is at $255k base and Klieman's base is up around $300k now.  Obviously we aren't going to be spending ndsu level money at this point, and I think USD is overpaying for Nielson, but Bubba deserves to be in the $200-220 range.  Perhaps he again diverted some funding to his assistant coaches' pool.

Anyone have an idea what other schools are paying their coordinators/assistants?

New details is base of $185K, plus $10K raise each year.

Bubba's base is still on the low end at $185,000.  He was at $165,000 prior to new contract.  I'm not too worried about him going anywhere, but hopefully the pay for our assistant coaches is much more regionally competitive.

Using the numbers from the SFI, who had him at 150, 185 is definitely a nice little bump. Now he has a higher base than Montana's head coach and only $5,000 less than SDSU's. I would say his salary went from low to respectable when being compared to his peers.

  4. Great news!

"The contract extension and salary increase for Schweigert also includes a salary pool increase for his assistant coaches, which is in keeping with President Mark Kennedy's statements this fall that UND would invest in championship teams."

I am wondering how he goes from a potential walk on at Washington St, to being at Eastern Washington, to playing at a JUCO.  I am sure the story will come out.  But seems like we either are taking a chance on a guy that hasn't lived up to potential or we are finding a kid with a ton of upside that is out to prove his worth.

I'm sure it's a little bit of both. It appears he was a pretty good FCS recruit given he originally was going to walk on to a P5 school and then went to EWU.

*After reading Tom's article it appears the injury his Senior year hurt his recruiting.

Just speculation, but maybe the guy take a scholarship opportunity vs a PWO opportunity. Then gets buried on the depth chart at E.Wash (not unreasonable when you look at who they have had the past few seasons). Moves to JUCO to keep playing. Or maybe he just didn't like E. Wash as a school.

Regardless, it is additional depth and competition which is definitely a good thing.

This would be my guess as well. It's important when you look at EWU's QB depth chart that it's very young. Based off reading their roster there were 3 players going for the starting job at camp, the returning starter (SR) and two Sophomores (one being Gubrud). That's a tough depth chart to crack.

Can't wait for Spring Ball, we need him to be the solid #2 we haven't had the last couple of years. I did like his scrambling ability I saw on his Hudl film.

Hearing #UND has gotten a commitment from Juco QB Andrew Zimmerman of Fresno City College. Spent one year at EWU. Has three years remaining.

I've said it before and have kind of been a broken record, but I thought this was the most important piece to this years recruiting class (are a couple others that are close). It's great that (1) Able to enroll this January (2) Is a Sophomore. Looks to have a good arm and ok wheels. Is it fair to assume that the coaches think this guy will be the solid #2 going into next year?

I was just wondering. How are the younger guys looking so far?

From Tom Miller:  "There are some strong reports on the redshirting freshmen hogs, especially guard Ryan Tobin, tackle Noah Mortel and center/guard Nathan Nguon"

Eastern Washington's loss shows me even more we are going down the right path by following the Bison example of a ball control offense and dominating defense.  Eastern Washington had a comfortable lead and didn't even attempt running, going downfield just about every down.  If this was a one time thing for them it would be different, but they traditionally need to outscore teams, and that doesn't work so well come playoff time.  More depth and beef and UND should be well set to challenge consistently.

Agreed. Each year it's the same story in FBS and FCS, the high powered throwing offenses can look really good in the regular season, but come playoffs, it's the team that runs the ball and plays defense that comes out on top. Good news for us that Bubba knows this and that's his strategy, I just can't figure out why more teams don't do it in the Big Sky. When's the last time a high powered offense with a suspect defense has won it all?
