If the primary goal of HS athletics is to use athletics (in this discussion, hockey) as a complement to academics ND HS hockey is doing well. if the primary goal of HS hockey is to get college paid for, let’s just move all hockey to USA Hockey where the real action is. I am sure most school districts would find a use for the $300k

NDAHA does have Tier 1 hockey pre- and-post season of NDHSAA. Chicken and egg scenario: The best players in an age group choose not to participate, thus the best don’t get a chance to play with the best; thus the best leave. As a result of the changes around hockey, it seems inevitable there will be an in-season Tier 1 team. When that happens if your kid or a player within your sphere of influence is invited to the team let’s encourage them to sign up. if the ND kids don’t sign up, then they have to add other kids from elsewhere.

Rylan Spicer and Bodee Burris to Northstar Academy might be “a group” but Nolan Marto to Medicine Hat and Ryder Rivard to the Bismarck Bobcats don’t make this a collective decision. they do seem to be leaving because of the changes to the hockey landscape. they are good kids with good parents, so let’s wish them well. the Central and Red River JV teams lost something like 6 games last year including games against each other, and all those kids won NDAHA state titles at PEE WEE and BANTAM AA, A, B1, B levels. HECK, that group of kids had two Bantam B teams go undefeated against Bantam B1 teams in one season and that same group of kids played 0.500 against MN Bantam AA teams as Bantam A teams. All that being said, the competitive playing field is much more level this season. Maybe that will make the season more interesting.

First bullet is the league routine. Every game with an NCHC team playing at home has a supervisor who meets with the on-ice officials and coaches before every game; also meets with the on-ice officials between every period and after the game; and all supervisors -are “actual former refs” with years and years of on-ice experience at a minimum level of NC$$ D1, almost all of them have minor pro hockey or NHL on ice experience; and most of the supervisors are national level off-ice instructors for USA Hockey. the supervisor of officials at each game is the video review official and is involved in the decision making. and they have training camps every year.

Not angry, just lament that jr gold is not likely going to make it which will diminish access to hockey.

Why would a public school (for example, Sidney MT) consent to a more costly coop just to play in a league (NDHSAA) where they have no chance to thrive and no flexibility of scheduling (no more games against Canadians, for example)?? the Junior gold league at its peak was a highly competitive league among peers where every year even the smallest of the small could win. the hockey proficiency of Junior gold is not as high but it has offered a more competitive league than NDHSAA. but, the culture at large has decided that the collective whole and individual achievement cannot coexist and this makes it even more difficult to sustain small town hockey (and the biggest towns don’t care if it sustains). there is nothing that will slow this down, even my contrarian observations.

A good friend from Langdon who has been involved in their hockey since its inception has heard nothing of this “rumor” regarding Langdon. It should be treated with skepticism.

I assume you are talking about off-season teams? If so, they can be a good way to spend time with like-minded parents as a means to enjoy some hockey comraderie but are not generally focused on development. these teams are generally not going to be focused on player development, unless they are getting explicitly focused individual skill development during practice. if there is no way to practice and if there is no skill development and only games, save your money unless you are doing the team for comraderie amongst friends. for development you would be better off playing another competitive sport during the spring.

That’s goofy. The city is building a turf venue already.

The final course re-routing that is getting built is way better than the first option showed in public. So, it could have been worse.

If you view it from a non-ice level competitive perspective the statement does not sound crazy. Hockey is not important or even a sport for most B1G members. That is a totally opposite vibe from the NCHC and the UND perspective. ice-level the B1G is not at the nchc level.
