  1. Just curious, which program did he bring back?
  2. BigGame

    2013 Playoffs

Well, it does seem that we like to beat a dead horse on this message board.
  3. Good for him! Congrats!
  4. So the two coaches that are left are responsible for all recruiting (huge job) with a good chance they will not be retained by the new HC. They have so much work and uncertainty right now and you expect them to call the players parents and reassure them. What can they say? Don't worry sir, I likely will not be here next year and have no idea who the coach will be but they will hire someone. It's completely incorrect and blind to think most of the athletes aren't good and need to "all be gone" just because they happen to be recruited by Coach Mussman. I can't quite figure out why are still trying to kick dirt on a guy who has already been let go for good and real work related reasons. Bubba is a good coach and would fix the defense but his track record as a HC isn't great and I personally feel the upside with him is limited some. This doesn't mean he couldn't be a great HC at UND but knowing him a little I can't help but think he is a better coordinator than HC. I think this attitude to bring in people you know from the past isn't always great. The football pool needs to be expanded some and can't always be inbred. I wouldn't like UND to hire a coach from say Cali, Florida, or TX because I think who is hired must know and understand the region but even with that we can find some new blood for the school and program. I think most guys post while they are supposed to be working!
  5. He isn't nearly that good at this point. For him the NFL is still a very long shot. He will be missed on the field and apparently has a great work ethic. I wish him the best even though I don't like or agree with his decision. Players or people that don't handle adversity well typically will hinder more than help when things aren't going well.
  6. I feel a little weird now because with all the coaching talk I was thinking to myself, what happened to the coach that was hired at UND the same year as Mussman.
  7. SIU was a good team this year, Lennon just couldn't seem to win most of the close games. He seemed to winall the close games at UND. I think both coaches are good and think both will be successful with proper support. I personally feel Deboer has the greater upside but you don't really know until it all plays out.
  8. So putting an F is the same as typing the word?
  9. Good, now I can cuss up a storm with nobody to scold me!
  10. Kingranch, you don't live in Valley City do you?
  11. I can tell you flat out that isn't true because all coaches must have a full time position at the school in which they coach! Bruce Matthews had to work as the resident sub, or every day sub in order to Coach Jake and quit because he didn't like the headaches of subbing. So, I hate to tell you this but you booster friend is full or it. Most Head coaches are Coordinators for the school which limits how much they teach but is usually replaced by other administrative duties. Gary Joseph at Katy High School is the top of the top in TX HS football and makes very good money but no house or car is given to him. He could possibly get the use of a house or car but all it would be is essentially free rent or lease. But when he leaves or is fired they are not his property.
  12. Does that make Deboer 1.3? Cause I actually like the idea of him being the coach.
  13. Dude you are clueless, I worked with some of these guys and yes they may get a few perks and most college coaches do as well, but they don't get a house or car. The UND coaches got a lease of a car, and that isn't unusual. It is funny how the myth of what goes on in TX football grows and the people that propagate it don't actually have a clue. Kid of like most poster on this board in regard to actual football and coaching football. My personal experience doesn't trump your make believe world, <removed> clown.
  14. Not true unless things have changed greatly in the last two or three years. I lived and worked in Seattle about 5 or 6 years ago which was just after they shut down or limited booster pay to HS coaches. The highest paid coach before that was at Bellevue High School (really good program) and he made 100K a year all paid by boosters. He didn't teach, just coached football. In Texas, which I have spent 10 of the last 12 years they will actually post a list of the highest paid educational staff in the newspaper and the Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach tend to be high on the list but I never saw anyone listed over 110K.
  15. Around... Not Crucial but likely helpful... BS, football is football and just because someone has coached at another level doesn't mean they can't recruit.... When did I say "all coaches" oh wait, I didn't!... A lot of great coaches work at different levels of football FBS doesn't have the exclusive rights to good college coaching... I would say that in most cases a HS coach wouldn't work out but I wouldn't exclude someone based upon a stereotype that all HS coaches couldn't do a good job.
  16. You think a jump from NAIA head coach among other things to FCS Coordinator is a bigger jump then a D2 head coach getting a FBS head job? Some of these things are only exceptions because people in charge some places have attitudes like yourself. FBS or NFL experience is not a pre requisite to finding a great coach. I since I lived and coached in TX for 10 years I have a pretty good idea about how it works with intense high school football. Why I like DeBoer is because running his own team at USF he has great track record. When a coach is a coordinator he is subordinate to the head coach which may limit what you see from them. The only really telling thing to me about DeBoer and what he would be like as a head coach is what success he had as a head coach in the past. Mack Brown ruined a lot of good coordinators and coaches at UT with the foolish way he ran things. Personally I don't care who the assistant coaches with the exception of I believe the head coach should be the one hiring and firing them because he will know best what he needs in a coaching staff. Without that type of control I think any coach would be set up to fail.
  17. Guys that can coach don't have to have FBS or NFL experience to be good. Good, Great and Bad coaches work at all levels of football. I really don't understand why people don't get it. Art Briles stepped out of HS and built UH back into a winning program. Kevin Sumlin is good but a lot his success is due to what Briles did before him. Gus Malzahn seems to be doing OK and it wasn't long ago he was a HS coach that was given a chance. Brian Kelly is a great coach that someone had to take a shot on at one point or another because he was just a very successful D2 coach. I am not saying he would or would not be a good DC but I do know that you have zero idea.
  18. That's what my coworker thought would happen if DeBoer was hired.
  19. I really like Bubba but I would rather have DeBoer because I think he has the greater upside.
  20. My coworker seems to think if he got the job he would try to reunite with a lot of the staff from USF.
  21. I work with a guy that played for Deboer and he says Faison called him and asked him to apply. I think he would be a good hire.
  22. Impossible to find a "happy medium" with so many people having an opinion and thinking they have all the answers. Maybe we should shoot for Mack Brown. He might not be a great coach but he is a great recruiter.
  23. Sure... a UND/Alabama football comparison seems like a apple to apple type of thing. UND doesn't draw many students due to it's athletic programs and never will.
  24. UND football has nothing to do with the hiring practices that are in place.
  25. Yes but these are not government run company's! Big, Big, difference!
