    It still baffles me how Roughriders can easily be the favorite among people on this site, at the Herald, and the people of Grand Forks, but ranks below Sundogs with this committee...

    They discussed it. And no nickname is still off the list. One of these five will be UND new nickname. And correction. No nickname isn't a fan favorite.

    I'd be in favor of eliminating that for my favorite team. I don't like sharing.

    The 12 most used names of four-year college teams: Eagles (76), Tigers (46), Bulldogs (39), Panthers (33), Knights (32), Lions (32), Bears (30), Hawks (28) , Cougars (27), Pioneers (28), Warriors (27) and Wildcats (27).

    Hawks is just So unoriginal though. In today's ncaa hockey game it's the UND Fighting Hawks VS the UML River Hawks. I can only get so proud of a name knowing it's the same one as tons of other universities in this country.

    Maybe they are smarter than we give them credit for. Throw in a crop name... And the so so names remaining will look like world beaters.

    I also expect NDSU to win by 10+ points (that's double digits for the easy folk).

    That's where I went to school ten years later. Somethings never change.

    If I were to guess it was a "threat/hoax." In High School we had to go to the gym once or twice as someone called in a bomb threat (good thing the "bomb" wasn't in the gym).

    Well this is just getting weird.

    Not to mention the fact that what 15-20 years ago ESPN and ESPN2 seemed to be the real only National Sports Networks. Not with HD and expanded cable, Satellite, NHL Network, NFL Network, etc. I think I get about 20 some plus sports channels.

    Closing threads certainly doesn't work. The whole point of that thread was to keep it off the others. And then to close it for doing its job. As ive mentioned before, Delete individual posts that are off topic instead of basically deleting the whole topic for everyone.

    So I'll ask again ...what exactly is the conflict? It will upset a few people? That's not really a "problem" as any new nickname will upset some people. All seven new nicknames have conflicts. And most people would think a local high school is of low priority conflict.

    What's the "problem"? Herald articles (a sports writer already said one of his favorite UND nicknames was Roughriders) that states "Roughriders beat Fargo Shanley for EDC Title" will confuse 12 people?
