Yes, and they have been getting more and more of the "stink-eye" from everyone from student groups to the Legislature. -
Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong

About those surveys in use at NDSU: Something seems to not align when you look at NDSU in comparison to other, nearby NCAA Division I schools, regarding the athletic interests of the women attending NDSU. I looked at UND, NDSU, SDSU, USD, Minnesota, Montana, Montana State, and Northern Iowa. For NDSU, that's the three closest MVFC schools (two of them Summit schools), the three closest Big Sky schools, and Minnesota. Every school on that list, except NDSU, offers womens tennis. Every school on that list, except for NDSU (and the two Montanas, the two furthest on my list), offers womens swimming and diving. I guess I'm wondering how NDSU's surveys don't find interest in tennis and swimming when the comparable nearest DI schools do. But it must be acceptable, because NDSU is the only school I can find that includes this caveat in its reporting to the US Dept of Education in its Title IX numbers: NDSU Offers a wide variety of athletic opportunities for its students at the varsity, club, intramural and recreational levels. NDSU diligently monitors its students’ athletic interests so its athletic offerings can continue to meet its students’ needs. NDSU is the only one with that caveat (disclaimer?) added. I wonder why they felt the need to include that when others didn't. -
If you "keep it in the family" sooner or later you become inbred. I wonder how familiar gfhockey is with that concept.

The New Nickname vs. No Nickname Debate Thread
The Sicatoka replied to MafiaMan's topic in UND Nickname
You say that "no policy against offensive nickanmes and logos being violated". Are you sure, or is this more hyper-confident bluster (ala the Spirit Lake suit)? I ask this because the agreement is a contract. Is one side choosing to not enforce the contract at this time? That is the right of a party to a contract. For example, paying your rent is a contract. If you're late or miss a month your landlord can choose to give you some slack (goodwill on the landlord's part) or drop the hammer on you. Can we say definitively at this point that "no policy ... being violated" or are we running on the goodwill of the NCAA* (to allow this process to play out)? You say one side is using "scare tactics". Dare I say you're providing facts that are not in evidence at this time (because we don't know if the NCAA sees us as in violation but is cutting slack for the process, and we don't know if "no nickname" is acceptable under the settlement in their eyes). *I can't believe I just typed that phrase. -

Between the incident between Groenewold and the Manvel Fire Department (noted above, the Bismarck Tribune link from UND92,96) and this: I guess I know everything I need to know about Groenewold. I'm not sure how he kept his job after both of those. Source of my quote: https://sayanythingblog.com/entry/gerald-groenwold/

A majority is greater than 50% On this site, Roughriders has the plurality of the vote. A plurality is the most votes, but not a majority of votes. -

Looking at this site, about 20% of votes cast voted that option. If 20% is a majority, I need to relearn the definition of 'majority'. -

University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season

Caufield is credited for getting Mario Lemieux back in shape after his time away. If Caufield (one game) is on the Cup wall, I'd call that precedent: Wear the jersey for one game, you qualify. -
You gonna crash the net with her in goal?

You, as a Minnesotan, would love that. You'd be calling us "Minnesota wannabes". Minnesota can keeps its state motto and words from its state flag of off North Dakota. -

In a recent Herald article the consultant mentioned (one word) Roughriders would be easier to trademark. -
That's what she said.

I don't really exist. I'm just like Tony Stark's "JARVIS" artificial intelligence in the Avengers films.

Walker wore 10; now he wears 2. Depending on how you look at it, he's wearing the same value. "There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't." I wonder if he chose 10 for that reason (because he wanted value = 2); if he did, a tip of the cap to him!

They're prepping for the "couldn't come up with anything original ... stole idea from the FM baseball team" shtick. -
When I've heard "Nodaks" used it's by non-North Dakotans and it's used as a not-so-positive term, like bumpkins, rednecks, hicks, wasicu*, or gaijin**. *Friends of BJ Rainbow and Erich Longie reading this: Yeah, you know you use that Lakota term in a not so endearingly tone. Shame on you. **Bet you didn't know I know a little Japanese too

The Sicatoka replied to MafiaMan's topic in UND Nickname
Wasn't sure what you meant until I read the accountant's definition of the phrase: Don't say "North Dakota", say "no nickname", because the underlying reality is no nickname. Saying "North Dakota" is hiding the true intent (keep on saying the old nickname). -

So not Section 8, but still "hockey rich area". -
Let's break the 15 into categories: "Duckies, bunnies, rainbows, and unicorns" - Sundogs, Pride "Intangible nouns" - Spirit, Force, Blaze, Fighting Green, Nodaks "Raptor" - Green Hawks, Fighting Hawks, Thunder Hawks "Geography/Astronomy" - North Dakota, North Stars "People" - Cavalry, Explorers, Roughriders

So a northern Minnesotan (Section 8?) knew the name of a school that is known for HS hockey in ND. A hockey rich area knew a strong neighboring hockey team's name. Not surprised. But I'll bet you they can't name Fargo North and Wahpeton.
