You nailed the base concepts! Bravo! The morph? The hawk head slides (flies?) off to up-left and drags N onto D (middle image) and when ND diagonally aligned the words slide out left to right (kind of hawk's contrails). The other way? Starting with words, the ND slides L->R over the words (end up with middle image); hawk comes in from low-left and drags D to alignment (first image).

I could argue MWC or MAC. Either way this region is out of footprint of both. The most recent example of someone from this region that "out of footprint" of their conference is ... Got a flavor of that that has a smaller font "ORTH" by the "N" and a smaller fort "AKOTA" by the D so it says "North Dakota". You could do all kinds of video morphing from the "ND hawk" to the full "North Dakota" to the "ND" you show (back and forth), like start with the ND, scroll/sweep in the full words and disperse the words, then align the ND and add, no, fly in, the hawk.

As I've said, I'd rather the catwalk rails (say first 6-8 feet) be sold as SROs. That should leave ample space for pedestrian traffic.

I'm guessing UWash coach and SD native Kalen DeBoer, and his offensive mindset, had significant influence on the decision. I saw part of a UWash game over the weekend. Purple guys running jet sweeps against guys in green and white was giving me PTSD from about a decade ago. DeBoer's current QB came up 3 yards short of 400 passing against Michigan State.
