FCS is becoming unpredictable in its operations. Seven wins minimum is the criteria ... until it's not. Better bid is the criteria ... until it's not, ... unless you have a "name and reputation". Performance is the criteria ... < wait for it, it's coming > ... Now regionalization is being questioned by some of the names of FCS (see: Montana State coach recent comments regarding having to play Weber now). Dare I say FCS is becoming ... Division II all over again. The DI reformation committee is rumored to be strongly considering elimination of the "15,000 average attendance" for FBS. That is the only present FBS requirement UND does not meet. If UND will continually face "until it's not" FCS standards, why not go FBS. There it is "six wins" to be bowl eligible. Done. One objective criterion. Outlandish? You bet. 100%. Huge challenges? Yes. I'm off the rails? Yup. Haven't been on them in a while. And I've made hundreds of arguments against FBS, and probably would here again, but I'm tossing the idea out just the same. In review, UND outbidding Weber and being sent on the road is right? UND not getting in with seven and a six getting in instead? FCS not following their own bracketing criteria (Idaho is closer to Weber and those two did not play this regular season) this year is acceptable? "Names" (see: Montana) getting home games as a "last in" or because "their QB was hurt" is sensible? It's crazy, full guano loco, but this time UND would lead. In closing and under the assumptions that (a) the "15k" rule goes away and (b) the FBS criteria do not become vastly more strenuous to meet, why not get out of FCS before it becomes more "stogies and scotch" in its operations than it already is.

Weber and NDSU have mammoth, gargantuan offensive lines. They shoved our 3 DL wherever they wanted them and still had two guys to attack the second level (our LBs). If you run a 3-4 you must have a NG that can consume the center and a guard (see: Tank Harris).

Could we un-mess-ify some of their dudes?

Someone should acquire that "Fighting Engelstads" trademark if you know it may become valuable.

Let's look at this slightly differently: Same coaches, same schema, different personnel, and the results getting worse. Might it not be any of those but the combination (coach/schema/personnel) meaning ... Has UND become predictable on defense and teams know what to run in various situations?
-
The 3-4 was installed to counter the NDSU veer. I haven't seen the veer in decades. What's the defensive schema to stop the xDSUs today?

We have enough conversations that devolve; no need to expand the spectrum.

Idaho State looking for a new HC. Theirs just went to ASU to work for a former assistant from his days as a HS coach!

This conversation will not devolve to politics. Board Guidelines: No politics. That is all. The Moderation Team

Most of Stig's tenure SDSU was a BB school. Only recently did SDSU put any focus on FB.

UND gonna UND. There's a reason Schmidt is at Washington with DeBoer: Freund is the heir apparent. UND gonna UND. If all that were to come about, let's hope Danny is smart enough to reboot the defense.

... unless he chooses to resign (and take a cushy position with UNDAA&F, and he'd be really good at that).

UND holds onto coaches too long waiting for the next one to "be ready". What it gets you is hexagenarians handing off to quinquagenarians when the quinquagenarians were ready as quadragenarians* **. *That's the verbose way of saying we need to hand off the reigns to coaches who are ready and still flexible and adaptive in their ways. **Thus ends today's vocabulary lesson also.

Tied after regulation? Team captains meet at center ice and play a vicious game of this, best 2 of 3. -

Right about now I'm sure they are ... -
In the DII days, NDSU was NDSU, but UND owned SDSU in football. Frankly SDSU went DI with NDSU more for BB than FB. The "head start" excuse grows thinner by the day (literally). So why can't UND re-establish itself as superior to SDSU in football? Are we not giving football "the same" (relative to DII days) internal priority?
-
It wouldn't seem that difficult. We tend to bring in about 22 every year. Hmmm... football ... 22 guys. How could you break that down ... 5 OL, 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR or some similar mix of RB/TE/WR .... that's 11 7 DL/LBs, 2 safeties, 2 corners .. or similar mix ... that's another 11 I say, that's near genius!

GB will trade with WAS for Carson Wentz so he can throw to Christian Watson*. (*If you just felt the ground shake it's because the "earth just moved" for all our friends in Fargo.)

No, no, in Stearns County an oxymoron is a stupid bull.

Olson of the NDSU staff? No. If you want to mind<bleep> everyone … hire Craig Bohl’s son off the Wyoming staff. He’s considered an up and comer. https://gowyo.com/staff-directory/aaron-bohl/138 https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/247Sports-30Under30-2022-list-top-young-coaches-in-college-football-190685546/#190685546_1
