  1. Another creative solution ....
  2. Here are the rules that go into effect on August 1, 2004: Section 20.9.6.3 had all kinds exceptions prior to this (stadium size, or in a conference that averages so many, or etc.). Those are all gone. I can't find them right now, but the "move you down" rules are also already on the books and go into effect on the same date. The neutral-site loophole is in the first one.
  3. Perms? Nails? Bikini Waxes? Exfoliating Facials? When someone sent the free "day of beauty" passes to U of M attention "the Gopher hockey" team, I think they may have meant the womens team! Next time they need an "exfoliating facial," I'm more than sure Mike Prpich would be more than willing to help.
  4. The new rule (into effect this fall) is that you must average 15000 per home game to stay DIA or you'll be moved down to DIAA. (WYO points out some ways that you can try to do it, like use a non-home field as a home field for one game.) Here's the list of 2002 DIA average home attendance teams that averaged less than 16000 (close enough to worry): Connecticut North Texas Louisiana - Lafayette Houston Wyoming Troy State Arkansas State Ball State Akron Buffalo Middle Tennessee State Idaho Eastern Michigan San Jose State Kent State Louisiana - Monroe
  5. I know of one as well. It is more like 13,500, has a roof, and has a DII national football championship banner in it that starts with a "2". Here's a hint.
  6. Congratulations on the new football-only conference. What are your Mens Basketball Womens Basketball Baseball Softball Mens Cross Country Womens Cross Country Mens Golf Womens Golf Womens Soccer Mens Indoor Track Mens Outdoor Track Womens Indoor Track Womens Outdoor Track Womens Volleyball Mens Wrestling teams going to do for a schedule now? Put another way: One down, Fifteen to go.
  7. tboneund: About your signature, Karl Goehring is 5' 7", or 67 inches, tall. That means he is 67 times the height of a puck.
  8. If someone offered me $1,000,000.00 to sign my name, quit school, and go to work for them (at a salary beyond the $1 MM no less!) you bet I would. Let's put this in perspective: $1,000,000 at 5% interest is $50,000 per year just for having signed. Do you make $50,000 annually now? These guys guarantee themselves that level of income for life. The better question in this context, however, is this: With the real prospect of no 2004-2005 NHL season, how many NHL teams are going to be offering big bonuses and contracts between now and a new collective bargaining agreement?
  9. The work of the SSSS gets noticed. Read it while the link is still good.
  10. Holy smokes! We agree on something! "Risk-averse" is an excellent economic characterization. And you hint at an "I-29" commuting pattern. I know a couple or two who live in Hillsboro and one communtes to Fargo and the other to Grand Forks each day. In the last census data I heard reported, Cass, Burleigh, Morton, Grand Forks, and the reservation counties held or added people; the rest lost. Oh, one other county added people: Traill (meaning non-GF or Cass County I-29 towns Hillsboro and Reynolds plus Mayville/Portland and Northwood). Could the Senator who promotes the Red River Valley corridor be onto something?

Based on the Monticello shots, Moorhead could have skated six all night, ..... and still won by 24.
  12. They spend $2,000,000.00 on a state-of-the-art arena sound system and it's not right. Every other arena I've been in has no bass. The Ralph has bass. To me the only error in the arena is the level of the suites relative to the top row of seating in the lower bowl.
  13. How could you leave the Albany River Rats off that list!
  14. Sure, Bismarck and Fargo grew. Grand Forks "held serve" through the flood of 1997. But the state's population still declined. That tells me that all that's happening is that the small towns are going to collapse because all their people are moving into the three or four main cities in the state. When all the small towns are empty the growth of those cities stops. Why isn't there more growth in ND when it seem to have all the factors working for it? To me there is a deep-seated almost hyper-conservative economic nature in this state. That nature allowed ND to show positive numbers during the national economic downturn; however, that same nature didn't allow ND to boom like the rest of the country during the big growth of the two decades before it. Put another way, surrounding states seem like stock investors. North Dakota seems like a bond investor.
  15. Three! The old REA banners were given to each team's captain/designate. The championship banners in the old REA had the geometric logo on them. The geometric logo didn't exist before 1976. Please explain 1959 and 1963. I'm thinking that set precident.
  16. Forgive me for interjecting (I'll probably end up owing an ice cream cone or two); however, the past is far from lost and decently honored in The Ralph. Walk that lower outer concourse: the All-Americans, the old outdoor statue from old REA, the photos and murals. Walk that upper outer concourse: the NHLers, the Sioux Hall of Fame, and more photos and murals.
  17. Uh, 'beersong,' you have to change your handle. I'm pretty sure I heard "The Beer Barrel Polka" at UND hockey games long before it was done at the DECC which means only a UND fan could use that handle, right?
  18. OK, if Sioux fans oh-me-oh-my shouldn't do a lap, maybe they should take a cue from this guy .... and pee on him instead.
  19. I'm pretty sure the old Ralph was "too big" in 1972. When the new REA opened some were claiming too small. (It was originally projected at over 12000.) Now some say too big. Honestly, it's about right. It'll be an awesome facility for the next 50 years. Now, does alcohol deaden an atmosphere? I've seen raucous crowds in new REA. I've seen dead ones. I've seen loud crowds in Mariucci; I've seen otherwise. The same goes for The X. The same goes for Mankato for that matter. They were pretty boisterous last year and pretty quiet this year. It's not serving. The bottom line with a crowd is this: Give them something to cheer about, or have someone leading them, and they'll cheer. Forgive me, but Saturday, February 14, 2004, the UND Fighting Sioux gave the home fans nothing to cheer about.
  20. The DII mens limit is 10. The DI mens limit is 13. Those "so many in so many" rules you mention I've never looked at.
  21. More to sway votes one way or another. http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/mhocke...RELEASE_ID=2705
  22. That, or never return to that jurisdiction.
  23. Football pre-season picks? Guys, it's a different sporting season in my world, but "The 'H' Word" is not liked by some in the football forum.
  24. I'd guess (not knowing) not. Alternatively, he wouldn't have to sit a DI-to-DI transfer season and would be post-season eligible for the remainder of his collegiate eligibility.
  25. You have the best college hockey facility on earth, plus, it supports itself through its operations. Me-thinks it sounds like some folks are complaining because their ice cream is cold. And all this "Old Ralph" nostalgia: ask me some time and I'll tell you about the day I had my choice of 500+ old arena "rush seating" student section spots .... AGAINST MINNESOTA. No, I'm not kidding. And having heard the F-bomb on live radio as well (and knowing Hennessy had made an earlier comment to the effect that "looking at this crowd it's clear they serve here" ) I'm almost positive that was an unhappy (about Lundbohm scoring at 19:42 to make it 10-1) Mankato fan. Knowing Hennessy's style, he'd have let it slide if it was a Sioux fan and gone on without acknowledging it. His "really classy" retort assured me it wasn't a Sioux fan.
