  1. And if Roland would have been stuffed on 4th and 1 the outcry would be, "Why didn't they punt and trust the defense like they did all season?"
  2. IowaBison: I won't disagree with that. goo: Remember, this is government/collegiate/administration/red-tape land. Of course it takes six months to hire an admin assistant!
  3. ... or not. That's why the facts would be good. An open records request could get the facts out there and end this. $100 MM? No, but his donations for the academic side of UND were more than I expected or knew about.
  4. A letter to football lettermen on the day of a National Semifinal in football, maybe? (A lot of football fans picked that paper up for the UND @ PSU preview.) Because the letter really had nothing new in it, like most of the other stories that week? Because Kupchella had just left on vacation? Because UND had the banner headline the preceding two days and the Forum was going for a trifecta? What are you thinking as to why? That story was less impactful than the preceding ones in my opinion. That's probably why "Saturday".
  5. You have to admit, that was pretty vague. Was that the $1 MM for the football locker rooms or was it a different $1 MM? If it was an additional (beyond the locker room donation), if it's used to cover immediate debt doesn't that harm the capital campaign for the BSA? I'm asking because NDSU recently halted attempt to build a beef processing facility partly because: Fundraising there didn't go as well as it could have.
  6. It is amazing what all one can find in there (parenthesis means deficit): School Revenues Expenses Net Big Sky Conference Montana $8,989,596 $9,843,693 ($854,097) Montana State $9,898,383 $10,304,679 ($406,296) Weber State $5,542,616 $5,620,988 ($78,372) Idaho State $7,606,643 $7,614,372 ($7,729) Eastern Washington $5,168,734 $5,224,212 ($55,478) Portland State $7,556,641 $7,558,111 ($1,470) Northern Arizona $8,756,908 $8,756,908 $0 Sacramento State $2,436,833 $5,212,346 ($2,775,513) Former NCC schools NDSU $6,280,471 $6,320,877 ($40,406) SDSU $4,785,218 $4,785,218 $0 Northern Colorado $3,794,872 $4,390,478 ($595,606) Also of interest Southern Utah $4,563,446 $4,582,393 ($18,947) DI-AA hockey-playing schools Maine $12,633,336 $12,554,890 $78,446 New Hampshire $18,898,771 $18,412,738 $486,033 Massachusetts $18,013,213 $18,652,453 ($639,240)
  7. I don't recall it and you'd think something like that would have made a big splash in the media. Have a link? EDIT: You mean the $1 MM someone donated for football locker rooms?
  8. "Which are" and "which should" are very different questions. Did someone mention REA's books? Not officially "the books", but the data in there had to come from "the books."
  9. Open records laws in this state says, "yes" to that question. (Not the donor's name, just a confirmation of the revenue stream.) The public, the taxpayer, deserves to know that the money is coming in and that no deficit spending and debt is being incurred. And I'd think NDSU fans would love public confirmation of this in the media, "If the money is coming from private sources" truly. It would prove it can be done once and for all.
  10. tony: Thank you for the link explaining the rule. From page 7 of that link:
  11. No disrespect intended to the current stable of running backs, but oh how I'd like to see a back perform like Race (or Day or Logan) behind the Kuper Moving Company next season.
  12. bisonguy: UND is short two assistant athletic directors (due to resignations over the summer). One's responsibilities was the IAC site. Patience. The better question is where is NDSU's IAC site so we can see where these "unallocated" dollars come from. PCM's post to start this thread is the question that nobody wants to touch: The Forum reported NDSU nearly a million dollars red to start FY05. Has it changed? If so, how? Where are the investigative journalists in ND?
  13. How'd the Center get so far along if it was a problem?
  14. The Chancellor iramurphy speaks of isn't Chapman, it's Potts.
  15. To do that, wouldn't they almost have to be looking at adding four to go from today's eight to twelve? Twelve is a nice working number because it forms two six-team divisions: - for FB you play everyone in your division and half of the other division (plus three non-conference games for an 11-game schedule) - for BB you can set up either 16 games (home and home with your division, once against other) or 22 games (home and home against all)

I was thinking the same thing. Great minds, eh?
  18. And that was a source of a whole other controversy started by NDSU: duplication of programs. (The answer there was competition is good.) UND had been offering doctorates in education long before. Now competition is bad. The question about UMary-Fargo Center is classic! Sister Thomas Welder is lucky she only takes calls from Rome, and not Dr. Potts.
  19. There's no such thing as an "REA trust fund" I believe. There is however the Ralph and Betty Engelstad Family Trust which most assume contains nearly all of their assets. (The Engelstad's net worth at the time of Mr. Engelstad's passing was estimated by various sources between $600 MM and $1200 MM.)
  20. Didn't Sioux goalies seem to be injured frequently during the era that Taffe was playing college hockey?
  21. A Herald article on the transfer. A quote from a past Dakota Student article on the transfer:
  22. You are correct, PCM. REA operates to cover its own expenses first (per state law) and then arena profits are turned over, by contract, to UND Athletics. Alternatively, REA is still loosely affiliated with the Engelstad Family Trust which would cover any red ink for REA if, if, it were to occur.
  23. Maine is the DI-AA model UND should be looking at: - geographically isolated (nearest DI is 4 hours away) - powerhouse DI hockey (1993, 1999 National Champions) - solid football program (DI-AA quarterfinalist twice since 2000)
