German was a FB at South. It's happened before at UND that a two-player in HS was recruited for one side of the ball and ends up on the other, for example, think "#5" and "Wahpeton" in recent history. There is a TE ("sudo"-receiver ) on that list, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a QB looked at for the WR position depending on how all of the QBs on the roster develop over time.

10/10, A+, gold star, and a happy-smiley face is your score on today's quiz. I suspect others may get detention.

The schools should be "pooling" on the common issues. What you'd call that pooling in legal language is "class action."

The Bronson Property, that The Ralph sits on, is in Fargo? No, you wish that. I'd like to see a Bison fan who is a polite guest.

I'd guess "hold" moreso because of the dawning of home theatres and on-demand movies.

Oh, in her prime I'd have loved to used Dolly for something. There's not a lot of that, but why not find it and use it is what I'm saying. Again:

No, that'd be all the 1980s hair bands.

Not even a little love for "Who's your Daddy?" And I'll give you that McGraw's tune is the first one I'd pull off that list. The key point to my previous epiphany is this: Up-tempo, fun music cut and ready at the best parts. (Who cares about "genre" as long as the crowd gets going.) Still, what would be interesting to know is where the rowdier, livelier crowd will be: - Toby Keith at The Ralph - Nickelback at the Fargodome

I'm thinking having the student sections surround the bar won't pass the "is this a good idea?" test. (The majority of students are minors. Is that the right message?)

There's the problem with much of newer music: It's too moody and droning for firing up an arena crowd. Point 1 I've scan-surfed radio up and down the RRV a couple of times in the last few months. Talk about a yawner. One night in the Fargo area for about 30 minutes the most "up-tempo" station on the FM side was (get this) Outlaw Country 92.7! Even traditional rocker Q98 played some of this "new rock" that is slow and dirge-esque. I'd call it "mope-around and feel sorry for myself" music. What I learned is there is no new "stadium rock" or "radio rock" out there any more. By that I mean fun lyriced, up-tempo, high energy music, music that if you blared it over a PA system you'd charge up a crowd. Then it struck me: The up-tempo beat and riffs from the 1980s have migrated over to country music. A classic example is Shania Twain. Her hubby is none other than "Mutt" Lange. What'd Mutt do before Shania? (Double entendre intended.) Why, he's listed as producer on AC/DC's "Back in Black" and at least one Def Leppard album plus a bunch of other rock albums from that era. Now he's producing Shania's music (and child). You'd be surprised how much 1980s and 1990s stadium rock has Mutt's fingerprints somewhere on it. Today's country sounds like 1980s radio rock done with Nashville instruments and artists. It's up. It's fun. It's dance-able. It's party music. It's not full of itself with oh-so deep social meaning (whatever than load of crap is and means) and slow and moping tempo and sound. The first hints of this conversion were given back in the 1980s by none other than Charlie Daniels. (You'll see below.) So the logic association center in my head tripped: Could you pull off an all up-tempo country music theme weekend at The Ralph? Could you pull off some up-tempo country in the normal rotation? And I mean only the most up-tempo, hear it on the dance floor at a bar, country music. For example: Montgomery Gentry's "Hell Yeah!" (tell Tom Buning you hear "hell" in church ) "I Like It, I Love It" -- Tim McGraw Charlie Daniel's "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" (the rock interlude when the Devil is "playing", and what's this I hear Charlie's brother "Jack" can be found in 107 and 108 at times? ) Toby Keith's "A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action" Toby Keith's "Who's Your Daddy?" I think the key to all of this is up-tempo music, stuff that wants to make the old folks exacerbate themselves and tap a toe and the younger folks dance and party. Point 2 When I have the power over the REA sound system some (most) of the existing crap goes away and in comes some up music to test the sound system in REA. It's a pretty good system for an arena and you can hear the stereo capabilities. First and foremost --> Aldo Nova's "Fantasy". I'd love to time that so the long intro runs during the last 90 seconds before the team hits the ice for a period. Next? I'd have to stage the coup d'tat and take power over the ring. The long intro of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" needs to have the word THUNDER up and sliding around on the ring and when the lyric "Thunder!" goes the "UND" in THUNDER needs to bulge out (I won't say "jersey pop" type action) as a double-pulse like a heartbeat. That'd fill the 60 seconds of a commerical time-out in a period. Point 3 The prep work on the music needs to be better. If there's a fun up-tempo cut, riff, or lyric in a song you want to use don't start at the beginning of the song and hope you get there. Why not have pre-cut tracks of what you want from the song ready to go ahead of time. That way you won't still be listening to the intro of the song when the puck drops and the music starts. As an example from above, have the "Who's Your Daddy?" chorus queued up and ready; don't start from the intro. Well, there it is: I need the power. Hand it over.

That'd solve all the other notions posted here too, now wouldn't it. Those other things would show up to take part in that economy (well, except for the trees).
-
I'd like to see the city transition away from a primarily service based economy to a more intellectual property and manufacturing based economy.

What if the NCC were to add 2 or 3 teams?

If you have a conference, you have about half (or more) of your schedule defined each year and you know where you'll be travelling to --> known costs years/seasons in advance. If you have a notion of what a big chunk of your travel budget will be (conference) that's far better than being an independent and having no idea of who or where you'll be playing year to year (unknown travel is unknown costs which is nearly impossible to try to budget for). If you can start to define travel (conference) you start to define costs which means you can form a budget to work to.

Of course I'd expect Bison fans to know those answers. What I want Sioux fans to have completely thought about (dare I quote NDSU's Carr Report and say, "Establish an institutional consensus ...") is are they ready for DI and everything that comes with it, namely, are you ready for both edges of the sword? Let me restate my position in simplest form: Answer "conference" and "costs" and you'll have the answer. Answer even one* of them and you'll have the answer. * Conference makes travel budget a better known which makes costs better known which solves a big chunk of costs. Alternatively, an answer to costs means you have the money in hand and that solves just about anything, plus it makes you more attractive to conferences.

As great as NDSU 62, Wisconsin 55 was for Bison fans, how are they feeling this morning: MBB (at Furman*) - Furman 73 NDSU 61 WBB (at Fargo) - Texas A&M Corpus Christi 62 NDSU 55 Are you ready for both edges of that sword? It only takes one "Aw crap" to wipe out a whole-lotta "Atta boys!" Let me restate my position in simplest form: Answer "conference" and "costs" and you'll have the answer. * Without looking it up, where is Furman? What conference are they in? Same for TAM-CC.

It's always been that way (ND media centered in Fargo). No mention of a 23-0 team is just plain poor journalism.
-
I'm rather annoyed that the 0615 and 0715 KFGO sports reports this morning made no mention of "23-0". Come on. No mention? (Glas got quick mention for W number 333.) And Fox News at 9 is no better. "23-0" got mention in a breathless gasp not even at the end of the sports but at the end of the broadcast just before cutting to an "Everyone Loves Raymond" re-run last night. KFGO does Sioux football and hockey so they should know Sioux fans listen and KVRR (Fox) tries to sell themselves as covering the whole Red River Valley. I say let 'em know you're disappointed. studio@kfgo.com (KVRR.com is down so I don't have an email address for you.)

(clearing throat so old-guy season ticket holder can start loud cheer) Whi-i-ite Cloud .... Whi-i-i-i-i-i-i-ite Cloud ... Flush it! (clearing throat again so old-guy season ticket holder can start another loud cheer at some time after doing that first one a couple of times throughout the game to drive the point home) Wipe and flush! Wipe and flush! Wipe and flush!

I thought there were two issues with students: Vulgarity and Obstruction. The University brought out Intoxication as a third. The first two are simple issues of manners and respecting folks around you. The last one is a legal issue, yet UND is trying to deal with it without involving the legal system. That seems rather charitable of UND. You would be incorrect in that last sentence. It is completely illegal for a minor to be intoxicated in the student section of REA. From the ND Century Code (that'd be state law for the non-legal-type folks out there): Now you can probably win some points with me if you claim going to a UND hockey game is a "religious experience", but the state law is clear. If you're in ND and under 21 it doesn't matter where you are, thus, does not hold true if you are a minor.

True, very true. But again referring to the great and wise Ron "Tater Salad" White, a true source of first-hand knowledge on these matters, immediately after he was thrown out of a bar, he was "drunk in pub-lic." (See Diggler's post above.) And he wasn't even a minor. There's a whole other conundrum --> A drunk minor is legal nowhere in North Dakota, "pub-lic" or not. I tried to lead off-suit but you forced me to "throw trump".

If the world really was out to get you, you'd be got already.

I'm pretty sure Kohl Center puts down a layer of thermal padding then a layer of "hard floor" and then the court on top of that. I thought that's what REA does too. The "24 hours to switch from ice to no-ice or vice-versa" sounds more like "NO ice" (as in rip it out or pour a total new surface) not covered/uncovered ice. But it's been more than a day since I drove a Zamboni. Where's the man with the answers, Denny Gunderson, when we need him.
