  1. Even Ralph realized ultimately that his belief in Gino was exceeded by his belief in the UND program. A particular favorite coach with the alumni is important but the program matters more, and all the more during a transition to DI. I'm hearing about this "conflict" but I'm not reading about it in the media. Back in the day there was a GFH story about Wanless, the conflicts he caused, and the good things he'd done. Where's the equivalent today? I need some context before I'm buying into all of this completely. Can I believe it? Sure. When will I buy in completely? When it's cold facts out there on display. I need some help with those. For example: Where was Buning if not at the football alumni gathering? In his office in Hyslop? At an NCAA meeting? On vacation? Chained in the basement of Twamley to prevent him from doing something silly? I need some help with context. Buning's not a puppet but Ralston (because her husband is a VP) might be? So is Buning "free-lancing" or "cowboying" the problem? Or is Buning doing what he's being told the problem? Or is Ralston being manipulated the problem? And why would "300 Twamley" bother with Ralston (indirect channel) if they had Buning doing what they are directing (direct channel)? And if Buning isn't doing what the commander-in-chief wants how could he still be around? I need more context and content; and I'm wondering if this quote doesn't fit here also:
  2. Mentioning a voice of reason, let me try on another front. UND is going Division I. As such it is foolish to believe that it will continue to operate UND Athletics in a Division II mindset or mode. The Division I risk/reward curve is much higher, for all involved. I'd be shocked if the top levels of UND Administration were not taking strong interest in this transition. I'd be shocked if they were not closely involved in the operations of Athletics during the transitition. This is a potential doubling of the Athletic budget over 5 years, a $10,000,000 increase. And final responsibility, to the ND State Board of Higher Education, to the Legislature, and to the State, falls to the president of UND and his administration. The legislature won't fire an AD for fiscal issues, but they will fire a university president. Ask Kendall Baker if you don't believe me. Thinking the only ones with something to lose in this are coaches is horribly na
  3. Oh yeah? Ryan Duncan bowled three 310s for a 930 series. And it wasn't even league night.
  4. Could it be that they don't know anything worthy of blogging (I'll stop short of saying "reporting") on?
  5. Sounds like a lot of fun to be at Montana State right now: Credit: Helena Independent Record, 06/04/07, By TOM STUBER, IR Sports Writer Sounds like the scholarship losses have just begun due to academic performance.
  6. Folks, use your heads when talking about Jake Marto. He may not be the best player, but wouldn't it be better to find out if he's going to be WCHA capable now, when it's not critical? Current defensive group: Chorney, Jones, Lee, Finley, Bina, Genoway, Radke. How many of those will we have in 12 months? Genoway and Jones. Bina and Radke are seniors; Chorney, Lee, Finley I expect all to sign. LaPoint and Jake Marto this year are musts to get them evaluated and experienced for the 2008-2009 season. PS - Who were the last two not highly regarded GFC defensemen to play for UND -- Andy Schneider and Nick Fuher. They turned out OK. I'll be patient and see what Jake Marto can do.
  7. So are ya trying to say he's ... Gone ... "like yesterday"?
  8. Since we seem to have adopted the bad lounge act genre: F-f-f-f-f-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-ings, whoa, whoa, whoa, f-f-f-f-f-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-ings ...
  9. Might I recommend you go back to about post 115 and start in there. Doing so you'll see that folks are not talking about these things off the cuff but do understand the impacts and ramifications (on people, on programs, on budgets). Yes, in a perfect world every school could offer every sport to every body. But it's not a perfect world, and it's very dynamic. As the dynamics change so too must people, programs, and budgets. No, it's not perfect, but it is reality and we all must live in that. Why? We don't have infinite resources. We must maximize what we do have.
  10. Why would I downgrade from what I have?

Yeah, but he's still only about 5'5".
  12. If Syracuse feels like it can't compete in M/W swimming .... (gulp) ....
  13. I've heard too many stories about arenas and hockey teams in Fargo to believe the words until I see the ice and players. I'm not saying I hope they fail; I'm saying I need to see the results and not just words before I'm believing it all. Call it healthy skepticism (after "Fargo Arena" I and II).
  14. A year from today, three years from today: How many scholarships will USD have to work with? How many will Montana State have after APR reductions? How many will North Dakota have? It kind of makes you wonder which really is the best job right now.
  15. Yeah, and the financing is done and construction has started on UP Center too.
  16. Isn't Fargo supposed to be getting a USHL franchise soon ....
  17. NBC: Lacrosse on the cusp of becoming next big NCAA sport I've said it. I'll say it again: It's coming. Get out front.
  18. In Fargo it's not about feeling good about what you're doing and why you're doing it; in Fargo it's all about, well, this sums it up:
  19. I wonder who the bold part was aimed at ....
  20. He wouldn't ask how many times, 'cause it only takes once. He'd ask, "Forwards or backwards?" (Reference to playing forward or defense.)
  21. Famous Dave's is to real barbecue what Olive Garden is to real Italian and Paradiso is to real Mexican.
  22. Dave's or Roadhouse: Grand Forks got the better with Texas Roadhouse.
