  1. A UND grad is now Secretary of Agriculture and has to clean up the repercussions of this at the Ag School in his home state. That's the only UND involvement on this one. Own it.
  2. The latest: http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/index.cfm?id=65477 Be sure to read the comments associated with that story. They're a hoot!
  3. He's made a mistake in his life. He's getting another chance. I'm more interested in what he's going to do with that second chance than the mistake he made.
  4. From: http://www.northlandag.com/articles/?id=27...p;property_id=1 So unnoticed suffering animals in NDSU facilities is a minor issue? Given that information, I sure am glad the Medical School is at UND. There's $12k of state funds well spent. This whole thing has to make the new US Ag Secretary (Ed Schafer, UND 1969) proud.
  5. You make a great point about (Big Tenners) being in a position to have a great record and a fairly smooth path to an autobid every year being a great incentive to stay in existing conferences. Only one thing would get them to change their notion about that: Money. Moo-lah. Da-bling-bling. And a Big Ten Hockey Conference, with Big Ten Network, could offer that.
  6. Let me ask this next, obvious question: Could dissatisfaction with WCHA officiating end up being a compounding factor (along with Bemidji State's efforts to get into the WCHA) to drive Minnesota and Wisconsin into the arms of Michigan, MSU, OSU, and presumably Notre Dame, and a Big Ten Hockey Conference?
  7. Like I said .... integrity.
  8. The Herald story says 15 of the 16 committee members voted to pass Kelley's name to the Board. I got the "who didn't" name by asking someone in the media the question.
  9. Did you just call Steve Brekke a "senior"?
  10. The committee: Paul LeBel (Chair); Dean, UND School of Law Alice Brekke; Assistant to the President, UND Rick Burgum; President/CEO, Arthur Companies, Arthur, ND Bev Clayburgh; Former Vice President, State Board of Higher Education Duaine Espegard; Member, State Board of Higher Education Jay Fisher; President, UND Student Body Cynthia Lindquist Mala; President, Cankdeska Cikana Community College Glenda Lindseth; Professor and Associate Dean, UND College of Nursing * Doug Munski; President, University Senate; Professor, UND Department of Geography Tim O'Keefe; Executive VP, UND Alumni Association & Foundation Myrna Olson; Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor, UND College of Education & Human Development Judi Paukert; Community Relations Manager, Xcel Energy John Paulsen; President, State Board of Higher Education Bruce Pitts; Associate Dean, UND School of Medicine SE Campus, Fargo, ND John Stewart; Owner, Fisher Motors, Minot, ND David Yearwood; Associate Professor, UND Department of Technology Kelley got 15 of 16 of those supporting him as a finalist. Getting 15 of those 16 to agree on much of anything is a pretty good trick I'd guess. And the ones in bold I are the ones I feel I know well enough to trust their votes. * only vote not in support of Kelley
  11. Nah, no need. Lots of facts to keep track of make for easy misalignments. It happens.
  12. Uh, slight misalignment of facts there: The president search committee is/was chaired by Paul LeBel (Dean of Law). Greg Weisenstein (UND provost) applied for the president's job and is chairing the AD search committee.
  13. CDog didn't enter and play, but I think they get an honorable mention .... http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=303535
  14. I doubt they'd start over, but the State Board wanted 3 or more names out of the 5. How they respond to just one should be interesting. Part of me wonders if the committee only forwarded one name to retain some level of control over who is chosen. Like "GeauxSioux" said,
  15. Final standings: supersioux, GeauxSioux, 82SiouxGuy: all at -1 Me: -6 I'm declaring victory because I correctly predicted ...
  16. I'll guess (and lose at the game I created): Three: Long Johnson Elbert
  17. It comes down to integrity ... from all directions. - coaches holding to commitments made out to kids - kids making sound decisions they know they can back up before saying anything - opposing coaches respecting the kids and their coaching peers If you go to your grave with just one thing left in this world and it's your integrity you've led a good life.
  18. OK folks, the search committee owes "n" names as finalists for the UND president's job to the State Board of Higher Education so the Board can name someone on February 5. The five semi-finalists can be found at http://www.und.edu/presidentialsearch Here's the game: - You must pick the number of finalists the committee will recommend (1 to 5) - You must pick the names of the finalists Scoring: - 5 points added for picking the correct number of finalists - 3 points added for each correct name in your finalists list - 2 points deducted for each incorrect name in your finalists list
  19. Brad Schlossman writes a great follow-up piece to his disappearing goals article from the end of last season in Sunday's Herald. He goes into greater depth in his blog (and also links to the article). And it's not a UND but a league-wide issue (hello Commissioner McLeod). My opinion: I'm not into watching soccer, and I hate bad bounces deciding games. I prefer the more talented team show it on the scoreboard, by scoring. I miss Tony Hrkac: Tony's 1986-87 season is the first two and a half years of TJ Oshie's career. Hrkac in 1986-87: 46-70-116, 48 games Oshie's career: 51-68-119, 109 games Duncan's career: 57-59-116, 112 games
  20. All Puffy cares is if you pay attention to anything he says. Now you'll listen all week. He accomplished his task: not college hockey, ... ratings.
  21. Outshot 36-13 (16-3 in the second). At one point in the second I asked the guy next to me why Hakstol allowed Idalski's team to come out for the second period. That's how bad the mismatch looked. LaPoint, Bina, Genoway, and Chorney looked completely out of sorts. And for Chorney to get "Fabian-ed" ... and when the wake-up call had just come in no less. I'll tell you what I didn't see Saturday that I did see at home against Tech: I didn't see snow flying off of UND skates. Against Tech the guys were stopping and starting hard. You could hear the cuts, turns, stops, and starts. Snow flew when they skated. Against UAA they were taking long slow turns and gliding. I just don't get that.
  22. Jean Phillippe Lamoureux should have been all three 3-Stars on Saturday.
  23. The iron behind the UAA goalie was a 3-Star selection. It kept them in the game. Ping!
  24. Johnson is a UND graduate also. Regarding JQ Paulsen: On this point I am firmly in the camp of "iramurphy".
  25. Stand by for righteous indignation from the Fargo Forum in three, two, ....
