Charging

SECTION 6. a. A player shall not skate more than two steps or jump into or

charge an opponent. Charging is the action of a player, who as a result

of distance traveled, checks an opponent violently in any manner from

the front or side.

Exactly, Oshie had a full head of steam but he was no longer taking strides nor did he leave his feet hence Clean Hit.

If he came with speed from across the rink, it is charging...regardless if he is moving his feet at the time of the hit. It's a judgement call as to whether the hit was excessively violent so as to warrant a charge.

It was a violent hit which by itself would be a penalty for international play but that was a good clean North American style hit. Send it to Don Cherry and it might make one of his videos.
