Gopher Fan in Sioux Land Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 here is a website that makes a pretty good argument FOR winnipeg www.jetsowner.com Quote
Wreckincrew Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 If Minnesota would support their sports teams then they would have never lost them. They are doing a better job of it now with the new Twins ballpark. I would like to see hockey return to Winnipeg but I think the town is just too small. Millwaukee has the bradley center and that might work. I personally don't care for the city of Houston but I think a hockey franchise would work there. Norm Greed on the verge of bankruptcy despite near sellouts every night & in the middle of a sexual harassment suit. Yep, it's all Minnesotas fault. Quote
mikeypat15 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Looks like they got an offer they really can't refuse. A decision will be made within 30 days. Kansas City offers Penguins free rent, ownership stake Quote
Sioux_Hab-it Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Imagine picking up a Stanley Cup near term contender as your new tennant. Lucky KC fans if they get to watch this lineup right away. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=190841&hubname=nhl Quote
JESUS,family, rutgers Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Another major league sports franchise move that does not look like it will end up in Norfolk-Virginia Beach. I have been told(and I don't know if it is true or not) that the Tidewater area is the largest in the nation without a major league pro sports team. Quote
Superman0099 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 The problem with Las Vegas is that the companies that drive the economy and have all the money want your rear-end at a poker or blackjack table at their casino, not at a hockey or *Insert sport here* game. With all the growth and corporate money, it makes sense...but that's the challenge. I don't think that's as cut and dry as some people may think. Plenty of the allure of Las Vegas comes from it's shopping, shows, clubs, and the variety of things to do that don't involve gambling. With that in mind, people will still spend plenty of money at the blackjack tables. I think Vegas is the perfect city to move an NHL franchise to, especially a team with young guns and future allstars like Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Armstrong, and Fleury. Quote
siouxnami Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 I can't see ANY pro franchise moving TO KC. The Market is too small AND not growing much. The Growing Markets are in the SW, i.e. Las Vegas. Northern Virginia is another intriguing possibility. Quote
GeauxSioux Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Op/Ed in Winnipeg Free Press. Lure Penguins to Winnipeg I hope that the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and Manitoba Hotel Association are working with the group trying to relocate the Pittsburgh Penguins to Winnipeg. I know that NHL president Gary Bettman is reluctant to put a team back in Winnipeg; especially with a player with the talents of Sidney Crosby. I know that hockey fans from Regina, Thompson, Kenora, Grand Forks, Fargo and Brandon will be coming to Winnipeg to see Crosby play. Quote
