Congratulations to 19 year-old goaltender Brad Thiessen and 20 year-old forward Matt Shuya on being selected to represent the Spruce Kings at the annual BCHL All-Star Game being held on January 18, 2006 in Salmon Arm. Brad Thiessen has also tied a BCHL record for shutouts with 5 after the Dec. 14 0-0 draw vs. Quesnel.

Yes, it is. He is the type of BCJHL goaltender that Denver and Colorado College usually go after.

All the more reason for us to go after him then. I would like to see UND get a big goaltender like Elliot from Wisconsin. UND hasn't had a goalie over 6 feet in a long time. Would also be nice to see him in the mix in case Jordy did go to the pros.

Thiessen's saves % is in the top 2 or 3 in the BCHL of goaltenders who've faced a decent workload. Interesting that Cheverie, whom I was getting excited about before he committed to Denver, has dropped WAY off. Maybe after the commitment he's lost his edge.

I was checking out GAA in the BCHL and was wondering why no one had a gaa above 93%, can someone tell me if the BCHL is considered a scoring league?

That was my impression. BCHL is a scoring league whereas USHL is a defensive league. That allows me to hold the opinion that the best goaltender in the BCHL is a good find and the best scorer in the USHL is a good find.

Might be a load of hogwash but whatever.

There are a couple posters on the BCHL board who claim they heard that Thiessen has made a commitment already for college. One claims "to the WCHA of the NCAA". Just going by the Herald article that might bode well for UND as that article mentioned UND and Cornell as being in the running. However, one might also assume other teams are in the running that the Herald wasn't aware of.

And the rumors could very well be false. It will be interesting to watch it play out.

What is the average number of recruits signed per season? Thanks.

Depends on a lot of factors:

1. Graduation. If there are 2 seniors on the team, that means that there will be at least 2 recruits for the following season.

2. Early departures: If someone bolts for the pros or leaves the team for some other reason, then this opens up a roster slot.

3. Unforseen unfortunate events: Bina is an example of this but usually this doesn't fill a scholarship slot IIRC.

Please note that schools are not limited to recruiting just for the following season. Many schools have recruits already lined up for 2007-8 school year and some even go beyond that up to the 2009-2010 school year.

Do you have the link for that board?

Just to let you guys know, Cornell just got a commitment from Ben Scrivens, an AJHL All-Star and Viking Cup participant. I don't know if this meant you guys already had Thiessen in the bag, or Cornell was keeping options open..in any event, unless there are other parties that nobody knows about, it sounds like you guys probably have your guy locked up..

Thanks, nice to have a Cornell fan on the site. Is there a Cornell hockey site? Wish you guys would have roasted Gopher on their home ice last year...

And miss out on dominating UMTC in the Frozen Four? No way!!!

You make a very valid point!! I just always want to see the Goofers lose, especially in the NCAA. That being said it was GREAT to end their season. Who knows maybe we will get the chance to end their season for the second year in a row.

So are we getting that killer goalie from the BCHL Thiesen or is that just guessing?

I do think we need to get a goalie like Wisconsin and DU go after it would definately help us.

Espeically if Jordy get taken from us by the pro's like TH Is suggesting. I see it when I believe it.

Jordan isn't going anywhere. I think TH is half right though. I do believe some pro team will sign him, even if that pro team is in the AHL. However, it will be after he graduates. I read somewhere that goaltenders take the longest to develop. Therefore, why rush to pay an undrafted goaltender when you can get an extra year of development free of charge so to speak? I wouldn't doubt that he'll get signed, it just won't be until he plays his last game as a senior.

And Thiessen would fit right in with UND goaltenders. At 5'11", he wouldn't be breaking any height rules like Cheverie

I thought you had to need a booster seat on the team bus to play keeper for the Sioux.

Thiessen watch:

Brad Thiessen 15-18-4 6 shutouts 2179 minutes 104 goals 2.86GAA 1371shots 0.924 svs%

His saves % is 3rd in the BCHL of goalies who have played more than 4 games, the best being .932.

His 6 shutouts leads the league. The next is at 5, and then 3, etc.
