MafiaMan Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 According to USAToday, Stonehill College of Massachusetts has announced that effective July 1st, the school's athletic teams will be known as the Skyhawks instead of Chieftains. Score another point for the change-the-nicknames group. Also score another point for dumb nicknames: Heat, Lightning, Storm, Red Storm, and now Skyhawks. As opposed to Waterhawks or Groundhawks. Nice work, Stonehill! Quote
redwing77 Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 Skyhawks? Doesn't seem like a very PC name to me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe not, but at least you are not defaming the Native Americans. You're just defaming the hippies. Make Love and not War, man! Quote
dagies Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 You know, probably my second biggest concern if the Sioux nickname is changed is what we would end up with. The North Dakota Wild? What? Quote

The Sicatoka Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 ... guaranteed to PO people of all persuasions. Ah yes, the very definition of equal opportunity. Quote

West Georgia is concerned they will hit additional NCAA roadblocks with their old name. Quote
airmail Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Skyhawk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Chieftain. I prefer this one to the Skylark. Quote
