NCAA Transformation Committee

The NCAA Transformation Committee's next significant date is Oct 26 when the DI Board of Directors meets.

I'm perusing their latest minutes and trying to read the tea leaves.

I think they're trying to toughen up what being "Division I" means, but any substantive action they take will surely gore somebody's ox and will be challenged.

Times like this I do miss "SiouxVolley". He spoke "NCAA" and "administrator" much better than I do.

The Knight Commission (financials in college athletics) met recently and some DI Transform committee members were also there.

Reconsider and update Football Bowl Subdivision membership requirements to determine the appropriateness of maintaining the current attendance standard while focusing on other elements that more directly link the student-athlete experience to expectations for FBS membership criteria. This review should be established by the Division I Board of Directors, involve experts and key leaders from the FBS membership and focus on establishing more effective distinctions between the football subdivision.

Translating the bold and underlined: The easily dodged "15k attendance rule" could be gone soon.

The NCAA might be close to getting this one right*: It's not butts in seats, it's "student-athlete experience". Now what those "expectations for FBS" are for the "student-athlete experience" is a whole new question.

And who knows what "effective distinctions between the football subdivision" will end up meaning.

*I just came close to saying something nice about the NCAA. I'm going to shower.
