I think it is both they were over evaluated as talent and second they have not progressed since they were freshmen. I don’t know work ethic but I have to believe it’s there.  Beal has the most raw talent she quick, has length, and runs and jumps very well. She has been three years her shooting if anything has gotten worse and I got to believe this gets back fundamentals.  Hurst came here and showed early she could be force inside offensively but she also could shoot a three and now that is all she does. Second her evaluation my major concern would have been if she be quick enough to play especially defense. I know she has been hurt by injuries but here again where is our strength and conditioning for our athletes. I think we have been behind number of schools on this in all sports. I think whole athletic program has fallen behind other universities in how recruiting is done, strength and conditioning, and changing to keep up with what new athletics. This goes to administration need improvement evaluation to see how we’re doing each year  in our sports compared to other universities.

Good luck with girls basketball rankings. Look at Hurst. ESPN had her as a 4 star recruit, which would put her as roughly a top 100 player in the country. The College Girls Basketball Report had her ranked as the 247th player in the country. To say that’s a massive difference in terms of prospect is an understatement

On second thought/in retrospect 3+ years later, either both Beal and Hurst were woefully misevaluated when they were being recruited or since their arrival here at UND their development completely stalled under Mal’s watch. 

How wrong could I have been.  Now I think burn the whole program down.  Keep Josie, Pemberton and Walker.  Maybe give the old Mayville coach a chance.
