The Sicatoka
Congratulations to UND Athletes for finishing fourth nationally and as the top NCC school in this year's NACDA Director's Cup. http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/news/r...RELEASE_ID=3017 Now we just need to take care of those confounded Lakers ..... PS - Congratulations to GVSU (begrudgingly).
bigmrg74
Sicatoka, Don't hate the Playa!! Hate the game!! Remember, Being fourth is nothing to sneeze at. It still means you beat out a hell of a lot of other universities for that spot.
UND Fan
I was very surprised that we stayed in 4th. SU was right behind us at the time of the last update and they scored heavily in track, plus getting some points in golf and softball. We got some points in BB, W. tennis and track but not all that many. In fact, in looking at the final standings, there are many things that don't make sense (if I am reading it correctly): -- SU finished 4th in W. track and received no points. -- UND finished 30th in W. track and received no points while NW MO St. also finished 30th and they received 43.5 points. -- Both of Adams St. track teams finished in the top 4 and received no points. -- Grand Valley finished 33rd in W. tennis and received no points while UND and St. Cloud also finished 33rd and both got 25 points. There are many other examples in numerous sports. I would guess that overall totals and standings are correct - it is just that the per-sport grid is all screwed up! The Sicatoka
You only get points for either Indoor or Outdoor Track, not both, and you get the points associated with the higher finish (indoor versus outdoor). NACDA scoring system. As far as GVSU's womens tennis or GVSU in general: They don't need more points.
BigGreyAnt41
We can't use hockey as one of our men's sports, can we?
UND Fan
Sicatoka - thanks for enlightening me! It appears there may be some other inconsistencies but that does explain the lack of points for teams participating in track.

nodakvindy
Hockey indeed counts. Also at the Division II level, you can only score in 7 sports each for men and women. Apparently Grand Valley's 33rd in womens tennis was surpassed by their performance in seven other sports. That's pretty impressive. Laker fans, why no hockey at Grand Valley. Michigan is the state of college hockey and the school certainly seems large enough.
star2city
The 4th place finish by the Sioux has got to be another ego-brusier for the 8th place bisson and 9th place rabbits, which have both experienced a whole season full of disappointments. Both had such high expectations of making statements in their last year at Div II. For the bisson alone, recall what they've had to endure: the loss of the Nickle, no FB playoffs, no wrestling championship, two losses to the Sioux basketball women to end their tournaments, the final men's bball loss in overtime, no playoff for the pre-season favorite baseball team, and no Div II championship of any kind. By using bisson backers own rationale that Div II is not worthy of them, the championship scoreboard, by their own reckoning, must now be revised. Current Division Championships UND 11, NDSU 0. Division I Scorecard UND 7, NDSU 0. Come July 1st, 11 > 0, 7 > 0 .

I figured since it was a division 2 thing, we could only use sports that we play at the division II level. But since we're still a division 2 school we can use any sport that we compete in?? #1siouxfan22
Yeah I think any sport that we compete in works

That is an interesting question there nodakvindy. You do have to remember that GVSU only got started about 40 years ago, as we like to say, by a bunch of stoned hippies out in a corn field. There really hasn't been that of a push to add Hockey to our lists of varsity sports. We do have a Hockey club here, but as you all know, its the money involved in the day to day operations of a hockey team. That's the biggest hurdle to GVSU getting hockey. There is an ice skating arena thats been going up near campus, and rumor has it that the club might be moving in there to play their games. But I still think its going to take a big push by an deep pocket alumni, or a large group of them, to get the club to being a varsity sport. Then of course, we also have to worry about title IX regs. Thats what keeping hockey from GVSU as of the moment.
