Hair
Is Hill going to start King tomorrow? Last week he started his other goalie for the 2nd game. I realize that last week he had the luxury of knowing there would be a third game. I suggest he start King(where they may have a slim chance), otherwise there is no chance of a third game. UAA is guaranteed one more game-- there is a third place game (where we all hope they'll be), but your point is good. I think they'll start King again. PCM
Why wouldn't Hill start King? Unless UAA wins the tournament, they're done.
cavedurtis
Good catch, I meant meaningful third game.
Goon
I was at the game tonight, and if the team that was on the ice tonight is the same team playing UND tomorrow it is going to be a 8-1 game. UAA was lucky to win and I wasn't too impressed with them at all...

dagies
Was there too. I thought King played a solid game but to me it didn't see like he was stellar. One thing, we didn't think CC had a lot of great chances, or put the puck in tough places for him to make saves. I could be way off but other than having a lot of shots on him I don't know that he stood on his head. On the other hand, maybe he's just doing all the right things and is a step ahead of the puck right now. CC seemed to get a lot of shots, but AA scored mostly on great scoring chances, odd-man rushes, etc where they goalie was pretty much left out there. Didn't seem to me that CC connected too much on those types of opportunities or they may have scored more. AA didn't play well offensively. They seemed to have great difficulty getting into transition. They have almost a non-existent forecheck. They played hard defensively but often were getting beaten to the puck in the defensive zone. I feel if the Sioux don't take them for granted, they will win comfortably. But if the Sioux think it will be enough to come out and play hard, it could be a game. They need to play very hard, with great confidence that they are going to take it to AA. They need to use their speed to open up scoring opportunities that will hang King out to dry, where the rebound is available to be pounded home. And we MUST play solid defense, and not give up the odd man rush the other way. AA seems to have little ability to create offense but tonite it seemed like they scored on almost all their good opportunities. Limit the mistakes leading to odd-man rushes, and they almost can't score. Now to Fournier. Occasionally I have read a box score and seen that he's been involved in the scoring. Must have been a different player than I saw tonite. Fournier did little defensively, showed no speed unless he was on the PP or 4X4 in open ice, did not seem to hustle back to help out other than occasionally. When CC was in on the forecheck it seemed Chris hung out by the blueline. At first I was critical of his defensive effort but then I thought maybe he's out there to keep a CC defenseman back outside the blueline and uninvolved in the play. So I don't want to be too critical there. It seemed to me that he had one very nifty centering pass (behind his back) from behind the net but other than that he looked extremely ordinary out on the ice, even on the PP. Where the US junior player of the year is I don't know, but from what I saw in this one game, we don't miss him. Hope I didn't just jinx us tomorrow... The player I'd like to see on the Sioux is Dallas Steward. That little bug is fun to watch, and plays with skill, and plays physical. Fournier looked lost/scared out there on the ice for the most part, Fournier won't go into the corner and get the puck, he did little to contribute to the offense either. I am betting that UND is not missing Chris at all, even if he was still playing I am not sure who he would be playing in front of if he was still on the team. Fournier leaving UND was a win, win situation.
NorthDakotaHockey
As Johnny Prine once said, if CC did not have bad luck, it'd have no luck at all. We were there, and in the minority pulling for CC. Sioux-Tigers would have made for a better game. We had a score to even with CC. CC needed a run to host their own regional, and it would have been sweet to tune for the Frozen Four by beating CC in its own building. Now, they are SOL. Thankfully, the loss does clear the way for a trip to Colorado Springs. We have had our tickets since October. I said it then, and I'll say it again. See you all in Colorado Springs. The Sioux are the best travelling fans in near all of sport.
farce poobah
Count me as one more fan, just back from the game. I thought Glencross-Fournier-Kootenay was their best line tonight. Glencross laid a body on a bunch of Tigers tonight; more physical than I remembered. Green played well for UAA ... logged a lot of minutes, and I thought he was noticeably better than the other UAA defensemen, several of whom had a hard time finding the puck with their sticks. King was the story. The rest of CC's roster beat UAA's roster tonight, quite handily. It was fun to see the 'Wolves leap off the bench at the end. Its been a fun ride for them, to be sure. And it lasts 15 more hours.

CC had at least 7 or 8 doorstep chances that King got to. My seats are right on the glass in the corner there (Green #3 Jones Sioux jersey ), and I had a great view of the saves this kid was making...unreal. King was the difference in this game by far, CC was a lot better than AA. The player I'd like to see on the Sioux is Dallas Steward. That little bug is fun to watch, and plays with skill, and plays physical. He went to my high school for a year (1996-97, he was a junior, I was a little ole freshman)...really really really really really really really really (you get the idea) nice kid. sioux fan in phoenix
UAA will be playing their 5th game in 8 days & will have only approx. 15 hours rest; UND will be playing their 3rd game in 8 days & will be fully rested. Will be interesting to see if the Seawolves tire later in the game.

Some of the video replays showed from the camera directly above the goal proved that King made some phenomenal saves, escpecially at the end when there were melees for the puck in front of the net.
