REALLY?  Spanos called the team the "Los Angeles Chargers" in his announcement letter!

Will freely admit I was wrong.  So the LA Chargers are going to play in the 27k StubHub Center in Carson?  USC's lease on the LA Coliseum only allows one NFL team and the Rose Bowl didn't want any NFL team.

Well that'd didn't take long.  Are the Chargers going to lose the yellow in their color scheme and adopt the old LA Rams blue and white only?

This logo looks like the LA Dodgers and Tampa Bay Lightning got together and had a baby.

Tampa Bay Lighting are denying any random hookup that resulted in a baby!! :D

Looks like Seattle will get an NHL expansion team as soon as Key arena is redone, probably by late 2020.

http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/local/seattle-mayor-expected-to-announce-decision-on-future-of-keyarena/530748423

Jerry Bruckheimer, the Hollywood producer, wanted the Las Vegas team, but Seattle would be a better market.

They are better off tearing Key Arena down and building a brand new arena there.

They would be better off accepting Hansen's proposal and building a new arena by the baseball stadium. You can't drive anywhere near Key Arena and there is very little parking. Transit? None. Spending $564M to "renovate" a crappy arena is a crappy idea. And no public financing - we'll see about that.

The monorail goes right to Seattle Center, two bus stops one at Key Arena, a parking garage a block and a half away, and could add parking by tearing down Memorial Stadium.

Yes, building it in the SoDo area is better and last I saw the city was paying nothing for it. What it comes down to is the Mayor isn't happy with Hansen or the port has him by the balls. They have to redo one end so there is not any obstructed view seats for hockey. If Key Arena is what they do, just tear down that outdated building and build a new one. Even how much it's going to cost to remodel a new one would be cheaper.

The monorail goes from Westlake Center (in the middle of downtown) to the Seattle Center. It has two cars - not a reliable method of moving 19,000 people. The buses travel on the same streets as the cars. The last time I took a bus to downtown it took about 15 minutes to get there (about 10 miles) and then about 45 minutes to the bus stop where we were going. The parking garage by the Seattle Center is very small. And one of the groups (one of them withdrew their bid a couple days ago) that wants to renovate Key Arena was talking about building a garage that would hold 850 cars - at a cost of $30,000 per car.

It has been said that the mayor doesn't like Hansen and that seems to be the truth - why I have no idea. There aren't too many cities where you have a private investor who is willing to plunk down $500-600M of his own money and the city basically says they aren't interested. But, hey, there will be light rail in about 20 years.

Now there might be another NHL expansion player.  Les Alexander will sell the Houston Rockets.  Since he controls the Toyota Center and hasn't wanted an NHL team and basically expelled an AHL team, a new owner could be a bidder.  Houston has a massive amount of corporate support, much of it from the North.  Houston could easily be an NHL city if it had an arena, and now one might be open for the NHL.

He almost bought the Edmonton Oilers.

Will be interesting if Tillman Fertitta, who bought the Houston Rockets and the Toyota Center arena for 2.2 Biĺlion, will push for an NHL expansion team now.  He can schedule the Toyota Center anyway he wants now and owns a large sea food restaurant chain, Landry's, and Las Vegas casinos.  Any Seattle arena won't be open for years and the NHL wants 32 teams with balanced divisions.  Seattle and Quebec City would probably be the 33rd and 34th teams much later.

the NHL needs balance in the Western Conference sooner rather than later.  Adding a team in Quebec City would only make things worse.  I'm intrigued as well by the possibility of an NHL franchise in Houston.

Not really, the NHL could put Detroit back in the Western Conference.

There were commitments made to Detroit ownership during the realignment to not do that.

The new Houston Rockets owner says he would be interested in an NHL team too.  Since he also now owns the Toyota Center, the NHL could make Houston the 32nd team as early as next year but more likely two years.  Seattle and Quebec City could come later.  NHL brass want another big media town and would welcome Houston and their expansion check.  The division issues would be neatly resolved with Houston.
