01grad
Canada 2-0. Did they mention the assist on that last goal, was there one? Well, it's another + either way.
Schmitzzz
Great first for the USA... they need to keep up the intensity as the Russians will come out flying in the 2nd.
PCM
I didn't hear the scoring on the first goal, but Parise got an assist on one of the last two goals. Of course, he also scored one of those goals.
Schmitzzz
I heard the announcer say ZP got the assist on the last one by Werner.

sprig
DSL went down again right at the start of the 5 on 3 Looks like the specialty teams are clicking. Referee has an apparent quick whistle today, better keep the sticks down. ZP cleans up on the PP again. Hope it continues when WCHA resumes

PCM
Does anyone else find it interesting that Zach Parise is doing so well at the World Juniors, but is having trouble scoring in the NCAA? Could it be that he doesn't get mugged in Finland like he does in the US?

PCM
US back on the power play again at 10:18 of the second. Still 3-0 USA. Eaves rings a shot off the post. Kessler goes off for cross checking and a Russian player goes off for diving. Now another US player gets called for elbowing. Russians go in power play 4 on 3. Great save by Montoya. About a minute left on the Russian power play. Team USA kills the penalty. Misconduct penalty called on one of top Russian players for arguing with the ref. Sounds like the entire Russian team has been doing that. Russians go back on the power play at 15:04. 17th penalty of the game.

PCM
USA goes back on the power play as Stirling is hauled down just before the period ends at 19:08. End of second period. USA 4, Russia 0.

jk
Does anyone else find it interesting that Zach Parise is doing so well at the World Juniors, but is having trouble scoring in the NCAA? Could it be that he doesn't get mugged in Finland like he does in the US? My question exactly. We who watch him regularly (at least I wish it was more regularly for me) know what a special player he is, but it hasn't translated as much on the scoreboard this year. I have to think you may have nailed the reason. Whatever the reason, he is having a fantastic tournament and making the Devils look brilliant. Schmitzzz
Those of us who watch him every week know how good he is and what he brings to the Sioux. I liken him to Randy Moss in that even though he may not show up in the box score he attracts so much attention that it frees up Bucks and Murray/Drew. Anyone who says ZP is having a poor year just doesn't watch him.
sprig
With Canada leading 4-1, looks like the championship round is shaping up like this: US vs Finland/Slovakia Canada vs Russia/Czechs Interesting matchups; probably US facing the team that beat them prior to the tourney starting (home team Finland) and Canada facing the Russians, who beat them in last year's gold medal game. Don't know if we'd want the WCHA called like this (about 20 penalties already), but it does showcase the talent of these young players. This is consistent, however, sounds like all penalties are called, nothing goes.
PCM
Watching the games this past weekend, the amount of obstruction hooking that Findlay and Wayne State got away with against the Sioux was phenomenal. Bochenski couldn't make a move without someone impeding his progress with a stick. It's amazing that he even got one goal.
