  1. Oddly enough. Collins, as the UNC head coach, has guys on active NFL rosters as we speak. Maybe he can coach and just needed more talent. But it seems like those with potential were NFL ready after leaving UNC.
  2. My two cents. Our guys tend to be undersized in comparison to your opponents coming in. Problem is, they stay undersized throughout their time at UND. I beat that dead strength and conditioning horse enough. We also tend to bring in the right type of players during the Bubba era but somehow, while learning Bubba and Schmitty's system the athletic ability seems to decline. Not sure what to make of it other than, the system is too complicated so, guys play hesitant due to overthinking. We need big nasty mean mother sucker in the trenches on both side of the ball. Teams that control the LOS win ball games. Period.
  3. Congrats to the coaches and players on getting into the playoffs. I called them soft mid-season, deservedly so. As predicted by many, 7-4 (me included) was the magic number to make the playoffs. They got it done. Those that want Bubba gone will have to lament for 4 more years. If the Hawks win a playoff game or two, that buys Bubba and staff an additional 4 more years, and deservedly so. It wasn't always pretty, but key wins is what counts.
  4. 7-4 will be a nice way to finish the year. Two blowout wins at home may get a playoff berth. At the least good momentum for the off season.
  5. A good coach will want and need to be able to sell the program to quality recruits with facilities, scholarship money, and the ability to pay top shelf assistants that will do much of the teaching and mentoring good money. The strength and nutrition program is currently lacking at UND. Kids need to be able to eat body building foods during the day. Many have commented that our opponents look bigger, stronger and faster which establishes the nexus to strength, nutrition and recovery.
  6. Whoever comes in would need more resources than the current staff has to sign the kind of kids needed to turn it around and raise the bar at UND. ESPN U has a good piece on tonight focused on recruiting in college. It takes $$$$ to get good coaches and players in today's game.
  7. The majority of this roster is as soft as cotton. Too slow and not physical enough. We do have a few as in 4 or 5 that have that fire in them and are really talented, but its not enough.
  8. Coaching matters. Talent matters. Funding matters. Expectations matters. Fan support matters. Facilities matters. Everything matters if you are trying to put a consistently good product on the field, court, or ice.
  9. I was being sarcastic. I know its not how it works and I also don't see them winning Big Sky anytime soon if they did get back in. My point was we aint ready to be in Mizzy Valley.
  10. I agree 100%. But if your pu an Indy Car driver in a 1974 Pinto...its still a Pinto. Read my previous post I said, we need 'coaches that can coach'. That also includes being able to scheme, adjust in game, motivate, and coaching avg players to become good players.
  11. I just see butt whoopins waiting for us in the MVFC in current form. I agree the coach sets the tone 100%. However, if you recruit kids passionate and able to play at a high level, they can make a coach look good.
  12. We will bounce back and win a couple of more games and the final tally for the season will be disappointing, but respectable, 6-5 or 7-4. But this program is not ready to play in the Mizz Valley Conf. No way. No how. We need to get back in the Big Sky and find some coaches that can coach and players with dawg in them. Win the Big Sky conference 3 out 5 years then, maybe think about moving to the Mizz Valley. I am wondering if the boosters and faculty are pressuring Bubba to build a team that the fan base can relate to (upper Midwest home grown kids). I'm all for giving regional kids a chance to play ball, but you also need kids that have played big time ball in major cities against and had sucesss against legit D-1 FBS talent. UND football seems to have a small town, humble pie approach and it shows on the field.
  13. I'm comparing Keaton's and Tommy's style of play. Not the end result.
  14. I'm not drawing a comparison to Keaton's freshman season. I'm talking Keaton's ability to move in the pocket and throw overall. This kid played very well against a bad Sam Houston team in relief duty in one game. But, I expect as he plays more moving forward he will improve even more the way Keaton did.
  15. We showed grit; loved the opening drive to start the second half. Freshman QB looks like Keaton 2.0 Sam Houston had us on the ropes following that safety late in the game with the ground n pound but the QB for Sam Houston is awful. He can't throw on the run, and runs like a 80 year old lady. They put the ball in his hands to make a play down the stretch. Lucky for us because we were on the ropes in the closing minutes. Much needed win at home. Fans need to drink Red Bull before they come to the game and learn how to get rowdy and cheer from start to finish.
  16. The Bison want to maintain regional dominance. Big fish in small pond. I'm not sure they want to join a Power 5 conference.
  17. They are not a FBS program, but on our schedule they fill the void of a FBS opponent due to talent level. program size and recent win percentage versus other FCS opponents, compared to UND. Painful, but true. They are not on Bama's or Clemson's level so those fans that think they are, need to put the crack pipe down.
  18. That's why I say false (positive) indicator.
  19. I wouldn't call is doom and gloom. I think most hoped (I) after rushing for what was it 5 yds in 2015 against NDSU and getting handled, we'd be more on par with NDSU 4 years later. Its reality. We'll see how we measure up next week. NDSU is a FBS level opponent right now.
  20. I agree but rolling Drake at the end of the day was a false indicator. Drake is horrible.
  21. You are being PC and I agree. We need some play making dawgs with "go get it" and "come get some" in them.
  22. Last week against Drake we looked better than we really are. This week I don't think we are as bad as NDSU made us look (at least I hope not). Next week, we better pass the test. I have said it many times as have others. Our strength program is not D-1 caliber, our nutrition program is lacking and mostly non existent. I'm not sure the staff as whole is a D-1 level staff. We beat Wyoming in 2015, our flagship win under Bubba but to date, we haven't sent anyone to the NFL. Wyoming has sent at least 6 guys to the league that played in that game in 2015. That speaks to player development.
  23. I hope we have a solid year, but I see a much tougher schedule next year. I agree we have some talent coming back, not questioning that, but will we have the depth to compete with a tougher schedule. We thought after going 3-8 we'd be in the playoffs this year. Whoever put that chart together showing how many points we scored combined in the second half is what scares me. Will we have the talent to run the OC desired style offense? Right now, more questions than answers. We still have the same kicking game too. I hope I am wrong and go 9-2.
  24. After what we witnessed this year with the seniors we had. I find it hard to believe we will be better next year with them gone.
  25. I have always been of the belief, if you give your kids the ability to be an athlete, they will make the coach look good. That's why you recruit kids with play making ability. Robots have limitations. We will see what next season brings.
