    St. Cloud State (1): 0-1

    Vermont (1): 0-1

As with all stats, any opinions you derive from them are those of your own.

Outside of BU and UND, no one has been there more than twice. But parity probably doesn't exist.

  2. I decided to take a quick look at the draft status of each of the players on that list. Here it is:

    Potulny - 3rd (round)

    Ford - 8th

    Erickson - 3rd

    Carroll - undrafted

    Schepke - undrafted

    Cepis - undrafted

    Gregoire - 3rd

    Cichy - 7th

    Taranto - undrafted

    White - undrafted

    Barnes - undrafted

    Lee - 6th

    Tarasov - undrafted

    Roy - 4th

    Cammarata - 3rd

    Iacopelli - 3rd

So, is it safe to say the quality of those entering into college hockey has improved?

  3. Yeah, can't remember NDSU losing players early to the professional ranks, nor recruits at the last minute or mid season to another competitive league. Dynasty's are more likely in divisions where that doesn't happen, that's why Alabama staying near the top is fairly impressive as well.

Imagine a line with Oshie and Toews as seniors, and still having the pony line. Still having Rocco this season, Brock Nelson on last year's team.

Actually, that's making me a little sad.

  4. So you are going to pooh-pooh what the Bison did at the same exact level that UND is at for football? Oh, that's right, if it isn't hockey, it doesn't matter. :silly:

And quite frankly, you were the one making the flagship comparison, not me. You can't reverse course in the middle of the discussion by implying that I don't think the rest of the sports matter.

  5. I am calling Red Herring and Straw Man on this post. At their respective levels of competition, NDSU football has established a dynasty and UND hockey has become a wanna-be.

What would the dynasty look like if the boys were playing DIII hockey? I only state that because the quality of players at the true pinnacle of college football is very different than those that play at UND and Bison level right now. I realize the Bison have come in and beat some FBS schools, bit they aren't exactly playing Alabama, Florida Ohio State, LSU, and USC.

  6. I'm sorry, I don't care about the circumstances - you just don't jump a guy in the handshake line.

I don't disagree. I just imagine myself in that situation. The play against him wasn't only dirty and uncalled for, it was dangerous. I guess in that situation, him not being able to address it because the coward took off right away, I may have yanked him out of the line for a discussion also.

About the eleven second mark. Absolutely dirty play, not that I would expect anything less from those rats.

End of game UND vs. Minnesota 1/14/2012: https://youtu.be/tRiA8wdFkkM

  7. As far as leadership, I think we'll be fine next season. Chyzyk, St. Clair, Drake and Stecher will provide plenty of leadership, include Zane in that if he returns. I saw a considerable change in Johnson once the tourney started, if he quits with the stick between the legs I think he takes a major jump next season. Little Schmaltz stays, and if one or two of the incoming freshman meets half the expectations, we'll have a very solid shot at being in Tampa in April.

  8. He's older than the other three mentioned, so he's not at the same level as far as "pro prospects" go. I don't know a lot about his recruitment, as he is from Finland. But if you have the production he has in the USHL, you have options.

But he's not a guy you can just brush off altogether either. Unlike the other 3, this guy is probably 4 year guy. And we need those types of players too.

I think the four year aspect is greatly overlooked. It was one of the reasons I had so much hope for this team this year, and honestly, they played all season like I expected them to. I can't imagine what this season would have looked like if Rocco would have come back for one more.

  9. I think that's more of frustration of people on twitter. I'm sure there's some crossover. But I think its also a different demographic. Younger folks on da twitter.

The hockey players are also on twitter that people can tweet at. They aren't openly on SiouxSports.

    *I'm not on twitter.

You're probably right, but the point remains valid just the same. They're hearing it. Again, it's one thing for the coaching staff to hear it, they're paid to deal with it, it's another for the players to have to deal with.

  10. Exactly. What a sad sad person.

Actually, I'm going to take the troll bait. You know what's sad? A poster that shows up on the site to only sell tickets, much of the time for a considerable markup, and berate the athletics in the university. I just checked every post of yours over the last year, and you've said nothing positive about the hockey team, coaching staff, athletic department or any of the other sports teams.

You sir, are the sad, sad person.

  11. You're ashamed of being a Sioux Fan because anonymous people on a message board are upset the UND hockey coach hasn't been to a championship game in ten years?

    Sorry man.

Ashamed of the mentality, and the fact that it's clearly getting back to the players. Kristo's tweet, Pattyn's farewell. They are obviously hearing it, and that's why I'm ashamed. We can talk on the message board and berate each other, it crosses a line when it starts to affect the players. In my opinion.

I get the frustration, everyone wants a title, but I'm not willing to completely upset the apple cart to do it. Because at the end of the day, firing Hakstol might indeed do it. You guys talk about the program being a Ferrari and anyone can make it go. That's simply not true. The early 90's are a prime example. You're looking at six, seven years of .500 teams. Let's say you replace Hak. The team goes .500 for three years with no sniff of a tournament. Then what? Fire that coach? Then possibly go another three or four years? Now it's possibly affecting recruiting. Now all of a sudden a once proud tradition is possibly turning into Mississippi football.

Then what? Facilities alone don't bring recruits, and the atmosphere that gives guys the chills now is gone.

I guess at the end of the day, I'm not giving up the bird in my hand for two in the bush.

  12. Honestly, reading through this, I'm disappointed in being a Sioux fan right now. Not because my team isn't in the national championship, but because by default I'm associated with this sniveling portion of the fanbase.

I couldn't imagine what one of they players would feel like if they came upon this website, what some of you say about them, and say about their coach who they obviously have a large amount of respect for. It's also clear that this minority, but vocal group, has been heard by the players if a former star of the team feels the need to post a tweet following a semi final loss regarding the coach. Maybe, just maybe, you're incessant complaining about not having your very own natty has played into these kids heads as well.

I can say this, I will continue to support this program, this coach, and these players as long as they are there, and I'm not going to complain about it if they don't win the big one, because I know it means far more to them then it ever would me. I have my entire life to root and cheer for a championship, and it will feel the same whether it's next year, or ten years from now. They only have four to get it done. My heart breaks for Pattyn especially, you can see through his actions and words how much this program means to him. How much these players and the staff that supports them means to him, and this is quite likely the end of the road for his playing career.

  13. A couple of things I noted last night. The Sioux came out fast and sharp. Their passes for the most part were stick to stick. They aggressively brought the puck out of our zone and certainly played with BU the whole game except for the second have of first, the second and the parts of third when we dominated the play. Our kids busted the asses all night. Even after the fans quit, the team didn't. That is one of the key things in evaluating a coach. These kids never quit. When Zane wasn't having his best game, no one on the team did anything but play harder. The penalty on Poolman where he barely hit the BU guy was bogus. It led to a power play goal. These kids were well prepared. Dumped the puck when they needed to, tried to bring I across blue line when they could. I realize some of you experts who played 4th line on your Bantam B team when you were 10th graders think a coaching change should be made but if so, it isn't cuz we were out coached or not ready.

A number of you geniuses whine when anyone sticks up for this coach or staff. The only reply is that anyone who disagrees with you or dares criticize is a Hak lover or doesn't want a "natty". One of you even suggested he isn't flexible or he is too business like or he should tell the guys to just have fun. You know what goes on cuz your friend had a beer with someone who knows .

"I want to win one". This " fan base settles" for less than a title cuz they won't fire the coach. "I will never accept it". One insinuates Hak needs more time to figure it out.

Listen Sparkies, none of you geniuses have ever once explained how your esteemed opinions of a subject you have demonstrated you know little about cuz you have never been in the locker room means more than the opinions of all the players present and former who have played for Hak, and Dean, guys in the NHL and minors, guys coaching in college and the pros. Every single one of those guys to a person understand what it takes to get to the college level and play for championships and they have nothing but respect for Hakstol. They think you guys are douchebags. I believe if I read correctly one of you were smart enough to inadvertently admit it in a previous post.

I doubt that other than your game for 4th place in your PeeWee B tourney that you have had to buckle up and lay it on the line. If you did you might have some insight on the leadership and coaching talent it took to keep this team from giving up when we were down 4-1. Our self proclaimed best fans in the world quit on this team but the coaches and players didn't quit. That's what you look for in a coach. He and is staff recruit the mentor, they teach and they win. The National Title will come. I've been watching them for 45 years. Wg have the staff in place to get this done.

This isn't about you and your life should be no different today than yesterday. It would have been great to see the guys and their coaches rewarded for their hard work and effort. What we get is to say we support the team that played and they are the ones who won or lost. You guys didn't lose squat and you wouldn't have won squat. The coaches and players win and lose.

Lastly I'll comment about a couple of fans. One couple with their baby girl drove to MSP to fly out of their when the flights out of Fargo were delayed and canceled. Another chartered a private jet and then let other Sioux fans ride along in the other seats. They would not take any money to help pay. Another despite a traumatic brain injury that kept him hospitalized for months flew in by himself cuz he couldn't make last years when he lay comatose for 11 days fighting for his life. These folks and the majority are Sioux fans who appreciated the effort and excellent play and coaching of this team. We expect to win National titles. If the team and coaches stop putting forth their best effort and can't be competitive then the former coaches, former players and fans who have an understanding of the pride and effort these kids and staff have put forth on behalf or all of us fans, our University, the state of North Dakota will affect the necessary changes. You geniuses that have never had to "knock on wood", or face a bullet or make a save or shot in front of 20,000 people can then take credit and say you knew it all along. You don't need to be a Hak lover to see, this was a well coached team and they had a great year. We has fans had the opportunity to come along for the ride. Go Sioux.

I ever meet your sir, drinks are on me. Your speak the truth.
