Lol right. Never more in my life do I want us to run Z right up the middle on our first play of the game. Given what happened last week....95% chance of that happening. Which if I was their DC I'd sell out on the run the first play to try and set the tone on their side of the ball

Given that we've only lost....what 3 times at home in the past 8 years or whatever, it probably should be 80 percent....and we are playing a team we are ranked higher than. I take nothing for granted though, but I do think we will win. ISU will be prepping for a QB that is going to run more, will we still be able to run it down their throats and chew clock, I think so. Romfo didn't have many designed runs against Iowa State and we still ran it well, but they also didn't stack the box as much as teams will start doing....probably starting this week.

Lol I get it's sarcasm, but I've seen us get beat on long passes way too often in recent history to completely dismiss their big play capability. Hopefully we can keep their big plays in check. Need to get some pressure on the QB. If it takes us 12 plays to drive down and get a FG, it will be a buzz kill if the come back and get a TD in 3 plays.

I would think with the next three opponents he won't show too much else either, we shouldn't need it.....or I wouldn't think we should.

I agree we are seeing his floor. While he has some room for improvement and he may start getting more comfortable and make some better throws and better reads as he gets more snaps, I just don't think his ceiling is all that much higher than it currently is when it comes to passing downfield, but I hope I'm wrong. He was accurate on some crucial slants though which if he is off on those it's a different game. When the easy ones are there for the taking, definitely have to have success on those. Also even though we all wanted to stretch the field....might as well take those fly patterns out of the play calling for a while...both were picked off.

We know we will end up seeing stacked boxes as people figure it out. That is why there is still a lot of concern for many. Nice win for sure, but long ways to go and a long way for improvement.

And from the first snap this time!

I remember the one we lost at home...I think both our safeties were out and we were very thin in the secondary and they figured that out and took advantage of that in the second half and we couldn't stop them through the air.

As far as the Griddy I kind of agree, although I guess it all depends if the players are tired of it or not. If they still love it....keep doing it. It probably just doesn't need to be video'd and posted every week...except for maybe a big win, which this one was.

Ummm....yeah and our defense gave up 42 points in that game.

Well against SDSU in spring 2021 against the eventual national champions, Tommy lead us to an upset win. Did he have to come back and pull out the win, no....because he had more than 50 yards passing the in the first half so we had the lead and didn't need to come back. It was a great 2nd half for Romfo and will give him props on that. But if Tommy was able to hand off the ball and we were able to run it like that, he would be able to sprinkle in some nice complimentary passes. Tommy had a crap defense last year too. We had 6 sacks yesterday. I'll be rooting for Romfo to expand his passing game a bit more, he did have a couple of nice throws yesterday. One dimensional just usually gets exposed at some point, but we will see how the year plays out. Go Hawks!

Wheelsup mentioned the trick plays. Everyone was expecting us to run trick plays previously....which made then less effective over time IMO. Use them 5-6 times a year in the right situation when you really need it. Also seems like there has to be a way to get Seidl outside and in space more. Looks like we've completely gotten rid of the jet sweep, not sure why. If you've got a fast guy and run in the right spot it seemed like that was usually good for 4-5 yards when we did it with McKinney. As people figure out we cannot throw further than 10 yards up field we won't be able to continue to run up the gut with as much success. Seems like a jet sweep or something to the outside would keep them guessing a bit more. I am truly amazed how our OL is able to dominate for being so young, but teams will wise up and we need to figure out how to spread the field in different ways to continue to be successful IMO.

I would probably agree with you. In the next three games if we get decent leads, it would be nice to not wait until the last 5 minutes of the game to get Jerry some reps. For one, it would be nice to see what he can do running the regular offense. For two, if Romfo gets injured would be nice for Jerry to have some snaps under his belt.

Yes. But when our defense did play in the second half I think Montana went 3 and out twice. And they didn't score the other two times. 6 sacks. Yes our D needs work, but apparently so does the #4 teams in the country.
-
We had 243 yards rushing in thr game. Four possesions in 2nd half and scored on all of them. 45 plays in the second half. 24 minutes of TOP in second half. Ok I think we know what our identity needs to be.
-
None that I saw either
-
Probably a 35 point win if in Montana. Although if we start games now with ground and pound right away....would think we shouldn't ever get blown out.
-
I think the OC figured it out that we have to keep it simple and boring and that is what we did from the get go in the second half. Will it work all season, not sure. But have to stick with it. Need to find the passing plays Romfo can make and mix them in at the right time.
-
Holy hell Romfo......you Romfo'd that and this game will be remembered for a while. I thought there was no chance. Made a couple key throws towards the end too. Congratulations young man!
-
Thats what I thought when I saw him on thr screen towards the end of the game. Bye bye
-
Someone make a play!! Need a big sack or something!
-
Better off spreading it out and running up the middle. Montana had 10 guys all right there.....wth.

What the hell was that call on 3rd down
